Victor Thought #7 Sublime
There really is nothing better than nature to calm your senses and bring you back to reality. In “Frankenstein,” Victor visits several places in nature that seem serene and sublime. He does this to clear his mind and grasp reality whilst in the madness of the monster he created. These beautiful spots can help him remember there is so much more to life and give him the peace and tranquility he has been looking for.Â
Ice is a common nature theme along this novel; the book begins and ends in ice. Ice can be represented as beautiful but it can also be seen as a trap. A person can be mesmerized by the ice and want to dig deeper into it and explore more; before they know it, they are stuck and have no way out- it is now in dangerous territories. Just like Victor’s curiosity about creating another being and him being obsessed with alchemy and science; later to create the monster and live in constant fear of it. Victor is trapped because something of his own accord.Â
I do believe in sublime nature; some places are very relaxing and although they may not have legitimate healing powers, some leave the place feeling better than when they arrived. For me, a hilltop with greenery and a gorgeous sunset is an example of sublime nature. When I visit this scenery, it brings me peace and reminds me of how good God is and what he has created for us. It is good for everyone to have a place they can retreat to to take their mind off of things and get away from the crazy.. literally.
