#SlowAndSteady •• Took the first 3 weeks of 2022 to fast from social media, meat, make up and chocolate (my easiest addiction). I came into the new year feeling depleted, confused, discouraged yet hopeful. When I get into a state such as this, as many of us inevitably will, I have no desire to share that energy with others let alone broadcast it on the internet. So, I took a step back from consuming too much, to challenge my habits of comfort, to become more aware of my own presence, and to just be quiet. This season of fasting and praying made me realize that there is a purpose that can only be fulfilled with sacrifice. If you’re overcoming challenges, it’s one thing. But to choose to sacrifice that which you know is no longer serving you, but you don’t want to let go of, that’s when you learn to take control. It doesn’t mean you fixed it, or everything is according to your plans and life is just grand and dandy. No, but it reminds you, even for a moment, that who we are is not comprised of all that goes on around us, only if we make it so. There are emotions only we can feel, that no words can ever express. There are thoughts we write down, that we’ve yet to understand ourselves. Actions that only we can be held accountable for. And when we step back into the world, there will still be ugly, hurtful and unfair circumstances to face. Amidst all that, there is another side of the same coin, that is beautiful, worthy, and joyful. It won’t be easy, but here’s a good reminder to try your best to focus on what you can control. With discernment, I’ve made decisions and changes, for myself without question from others, and though it may seem small, it makes me feel good that I did it on my own. Got rid of the blonde (bye gurl), finally qualified & got Lasik (hello vision board from sophomore year HS), switched to Apple from Samsung and didn’t transfer anything over to start off completely fresh. 2022 looks and feels like it will bring about a ton of change. And although it feels like I don’t understand a thing about it right now, the one thing that empowers me to keep me moving forward in the uncertainty, is the trust I'm rebuilding with myself. https://www.instagram.com/p/CZN6_SZMUh06CJ5r6uFbGnBgaYx7t-A4K2MSZU0/?utm_medium=tumblr
