don’t do this

seriously, just don’t. i know the idea of your art being official merch is exciting, especially if you’re a young/unknown artist but like

this is a merchandise license for TWO YEARS. they will be selling your art on t-shirts and god knows what else, and you get NO ACTUAL MONEY for it in exchange. a trip to london or some swag is nice and all, but it is absolutely not sufficient compensation for what is, in essence, you DESIGNING THEIR ACTUAL MERCH THAT THEY WILL SELL FOR ACTUAL MONEY

and maybe you don’t care about that, maybe you’re just a hobbyist, but consider this:

they could have hired an actual artist

actual artists miss out on actual, paying jobs because of bullshit competitions like this. this isn’t some fun little thing where they display your art somewhere, they will be making Actual Real Money from this. they could have done a competition where you just send in your portfolio and they choose someone to work with from that. they could have actually commissioned an artist and paid them appropriately. but no, they’re asking you to do spec work and then sign away your artwork so they can make money off of it for two years.

it’s bullshit

don’t do it. don’t make this acceptable.
