the vampire lestat is a good show bc it mentioned the rothko chapel once and now i spend every waking moment thinking about mark rothko and how his work relates to these fictional vampires. anyway what if i did a companion piece to my armand/rothko art with daniel and another rothko painting haha jk. unless?

ok two people have told me to do it so i will. question is, which rothko for daniel? im thinking either a red one (bc haha. blood. but also that fucking blouse armand got him) or a nice orange/yellow one (for armand's eyes + walking in the sun)

#im leaning towards red bc it's more dramatic but it also feels too obvious #so maybe i should do orange/yellow

the thing about abstract art is that once you learn the history and context surrounding these types of styles you'll never want to stop beating everyone who says "my kid could do that" to death

somewhat pertinent: Jacob Geller did a video essay about 7 years ago titled, "who's afraid of modern art?" and I think it captures some of these ideas about abstract art (and of course, modern art) beautifully.

#like you can just glance at a wikipedia page and learn what these artists are trying to do #and what they're reacting to and how art/history has influenced them #i promise you it's all extremely interesting #and you don't have to personally find it aesthetically pleasing but you can still respect it
