A fair amount of DC Comics and a whole lot of professional wrestling reblogged by a person who's probably older than you think. Mith-gifs-wrestling is my side blog for (wait for it...) wrestling gifs.
HELLO i finished this 226k superbat wrestler au fic called "heroes of the squared circle" by @mithen and it was so good i broke my fic reading record and finished the entire thing in less than two days lmao if u love superbat and love long fics PLEASE READ IT their love is so wholesome and the way the dcu storylines get adapted into wrestling storylines is super cool šš (this is a sketchdump of how i imagined their wrestling outfits to look throughout the story haha)
Oh my GOD look at this look at this! I canāt even express how magical it is to see ideas turned into actual images like this--the Psionic Claw made me laugh out loud, and I strongly suspect you gave Brucie the preciseĀ robe I imagined him in, that is just amazing. So many identities, so perfectly drawn! Iām in awe. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this.
Hey, I really love your superbat stories on ao3. Do you plan to write new one or are you done with writing? š„²
I want to write soooo so so so much! Sadly, work has been destroying me for quite a while now, I just donāt have time or energy. But Iāve been poking a bit at a story set in the Gotham by Gaslight universe--if you havenāt been reading A League for Justice, may I recommend it? Itās full of tasty little Superbat moments like Bruce being the only person smart enough to figure out Clarkās secret identity--and considerate enough to immediately decide to keep that secret between them:
And Clark then returns the favor by saving Bruce from General Zod--and calling himĀ āfriendā immediately. Theyāve had approximately zero actual conversations so far! At least on-page, which is what Iād really like to fill in a bit.
There are lots of little gaps in the narrative where Clark and Bruce could have had some time together, Iād love to find them and write them out to show how we get from strangers toĀ āfriendsā (or more, muahaha) in about two issues. Unfortunately, work is not very amenable to me writing them! But itās something I want very badly to do.
I saw a post talking about wwe superbat AU and as someone who loved wrestling and is very into superbat atm, can you share the link šš
It's Heroes of the Squared Circle! It's a DC/wrestling fusion where I take the DCU's history and wrestling history, smash them both into bits, and glue them back together and see what happens. Maxwell Lord is kinda ECW Paul Heyman! Lex Luthor is (obviously) Vince McMahon (but nicer!) Wonder Woman maps onto Beth Phoenix a bit (Amazon to Glamazon!) It was supposed to be a nice tight 8-parter and by the time it was done it was a rambling 200,000+ words across 74 chapters, and I had a blast.
Hello! I'm sorry this is kind of random but I saw the movie Vertigo in the theater last week and it made me think of you. The first place I ever heard of that movie was in your fic and the first place I ever heard of Walter Benjamin and Paul Klee was in Music of the Spheres. Like your writing introduced me to so many things that are so important to me now!! Thank you!
Oh my gosh, I just love love love the image of you watching Vertigo and making the connections to the fic and appreciating them anew! I have to say, looking back, I'm still really satisfied with how it did as a Superbat fic, it was so much fun to play with identity. And then at a deeper level I'm sheerly delighted at the idea that some of the things I put into fic just for the joy of it might actually make an impact on people. Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know, I'll be on Cloud Nine for a while thanks to you!
idk if uāll see this, but sometimes when i feel down, i reread my offline copy of ur wwe superbat fic and go to my favorite passagesā at this point itās more highlights than texts. its kinda funny how u were my introduction to wwe and wrestling as a whole, and now years later im a fan! im still just a casual viewer learning abt everything and watching yt highlights tho, but now every time i come back to your fic, i recognize your references and inspirations for everybody!
bruce, for example, i see bits and pieces of the undertaker and rey mysterio. and dick to me, is a lot like dominik mysterio in a sense that he grew up in the biz as a kid, and is now a wwe veteran despite just being in his 20s. also, its very funny to me seeing lex as the vince mcmahon in this fic because of course lex Would do that shit. i keep imagining lex make his face go red and purple on command, throwing a tantrun during the bruce/clark takeover; precisely because i just watched vince mcmahon go fucking batshit insaneš.
thanks for bringing me so much joy and comfort with your words.
one last thing, i wanna ask: if you could have any one wrestler from your fic be transported to the real wwe wrestler, who would it be, and what storylines dyou think theyād be in??
This makes me so happy! Wrestling and superhero comics are my peanut butter and jelly, they're so different but some of the themes are so similar and they smush together so well (I've been eyeing that DC KO series which looks like basically a DC/wrestling crossover but I want to know how dark it's going to get before I tackle it, I'm not in a good place for dark stuff right now).
It's interesting because this is a Clark/Bruce fic, but I do feel like in the long run it's very much the story of Dick Grayson, and he's likely the character I'd pull over (preferably minus the tragedy!). His fighting style is exactly what I love in a wrestler--high-flying, fearless, agile--and his attitude would be very flexible to be a pure babyface or a kind of cocky tweener.
Thank you so much for the sweet comment, you made my day!
!!! Mithen, I need to know if you've seen the new Superman movie yet. I can't help but think of "Country Boy Clark" from your wrestling fic series. XD
I LOVED IT SO MUCH OMG. The moment he said "What the hey?" I was hooked, and then when he was explaining to Lois that he had to find Krypto because he was probably alone and afraid, I was like "This is it, this is my Clark on the big screen at last." He would have made a perfect Country Clark! Can I confess I have not seen the Battinson movie yet? And now I know I have to see it and see how the dynamic between the two might feel...
Hey Mither! Hope you're doing well. I was just talking to some new friends about Superbat and I got to telling her how Dilectus Meus Mihi was like my first fic I ever read that turned me into a shipper LOL! I feel so old... anyway, just wanted to say hi and thank you for my decades long obsession once again.
My love for amnesia as a trope lives on in that fic! It makes me so happy to hear that, I have an intense fondness for that one and I'm so happy it was your entrance to the beautiful world of SuperBat!
Alternative universe - canon divergence bagginshield
I cannot begin to explain to you how good of a fanfiction this is. In short words it's a series of what could've happened if Smaug never fell Erebor and how that would affect the history of Middle Earth. I've started it just as another bagginshield plot divergence, but oh boy I've never expected it to grow into something THAT BIG. I don't have enough words in my vocabulary (or wits in my head) to tell you how talented the author is! @mithen thank you so much for your masterpiece, I tried reading it as slow as I could to savor it, but ended up binging it anyway! I'll have to re read it again some time in the future!
The story reads oh so close to feel like canon, and I caught myself more than once thinking "you've outdone Tolkien with this!", and I usually don't give out compliments like that easily. I've read A LOT of bagginshield, and I have a list of my favorites, which may or may not rival this one simply because they indulge me in romance and fluff of bagginshield, but this one is for those who yearn for the more real and logical spin of events. And those who want something that will feel like Tolkien himself wrote it but with bagginshield love that these boys deserved.
The first one of the series is "Clarity of Vision" where Bilbo meets Thorin, Balin and Dwalin, who are looking for a mistyrious elvish cure to a dragon sickness that looms over the line of Durin. And this one is the perfect adventure story that deviates greatly from "the hobbit" story line. A delicious slow burn -ish where you catch yourself nodding and agreeing with every choice that author makes for the character. You see them grow through the adventure while you follow them around west and north and Mahal knows where else. And that's one of the most delicious things throughout the series, we travel through new places that weren't shown in the movies (I assume there are more about these places in the books and parentheses)
The second (there is a smaller story in between tho) story "Clarity of Purpose" picks up some time later and makes Bilbo the ringbearer. I am afraid I cannot tell you much more, because otherwise I will spoil it for you, but we are introduced to a different fellowship with the most unexpected collection of free people of Middle Earth. I never would've thought I'd want to read about the adventures of these characters, but boy was I in for a ride!
If you want to read something that will leave you undone and done back again this one is for you! It will make you feel feels you never knew you've had. And every single character is so true to their original self too!!! This work is my heart's ease!
I've added my silly doodles, but I feel that after reading this masterpiece a few of my works will be inspired by the author.
BIG SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
For those who wonder yes it is a happy ending, and it is one of the most endearing endings that will make the life worth living.
The relationship between young Denethor and Theoden: 10/10
We get 2 new wizards!!!
Cats!
TREEWIVES
Dis and Arwen sisters in arms????
Thrain is a bitch
Never knew I could hate the one ring more than I hated it in the original (prepare to cry)
why are you still here?! Go read it already!!!
My favorite quotes:
"I'm not sure how to tell you this," Bilbo said.
"Yes?" grunted Thorin.
"I don't think your father approved of me." (Clarity of Vision)
āI am majestic no longer,ā he said, āBut merely Thorin Oakenshield, soon to be Thorin Baggins, if I understand the customs of the Shire.ā
(Clarity of Purpose)
There are way to many quotes to post here, the whole work is too good to leave anything out.
Oh my God, I cannot even tell you what a thrill it is to see something like this and know that Clarity of Vision has moved you! I loved writing that story so much and have always been so pleased with how it came together, itās far and away the most carefully-plotted thing Iāve ever written and it brings me so much joy to hear you enjoyed it. I HOWLED with glee when I saw your puzzled skeleton with his umbrella! And Thorin in reading glasses! Iām so, so happy, youāve made my whole damn year. š„°
hi hello just wondering!! i realized clarkās time as the kryptonian in ur dc wrestling fic is parallel to someone like the undertaker!! is this correct???
Yes, he's definitely supposed to be reminiscent of Undertaker, with Brainiac playing the Paul Bearer part (sorry Brainiac!) <3
Sorry to bother, but you're one of the few authors I know of that may respond.
I know you don't really write in the superbat fandom as much, but do you know if the superbat big bang or reverse big bang may come back?
I have not heard anything about when they might be run again, which is a shame! If anyone has any information, could you leave a comment here where the question-asker might see it?
(Iām kind of hoping the James Gunn Superman movie gives me a hook back into writing Superbat! We shall see!)
