Summary: What if two couples at boarding school Stift decided to marry? The Headmistress would have serious troubles with her health after hearing the news, but all the girls and staff would be happy. (AU for same sex marriage.)
It was a few months before the end of Manuela's last year at boarding school Stift. She and Elisabeth had been very close since the horrible day. Nothing more than some kisses and slight touches when they were alone. No person and no rule could separate them any more.
"I have nowhere to go after the school. Aunt hates the idea of me living with her and her husband. Father is traveling still."
"What if we're living together?"
Manuela considered the response was a joke, but Elisabeth was serious.
"What would I do in this awful school after you're gone? Before, I cared about the girls, but nothing is important without you. I can be a teacher in any other school and have normal life."
"It's impossible. Aunt will do something to separate us."
"It won't happen, love. By the time she starts to act, we'll have been married."
"Really? I'd want very much to be your wife."
"Edelchen, I hate the school, but I'd like to have at least a few more years here. I dread to think what my horrible mother will do with my future. I want to be with you forever."
"My mother is no better, but I have some money which belongs to me given by parents, and no one can take it. The only way to stay together is to marry each other. There's no other solution. I love the idea."
"My fiancée is very smart." Ilse smiled widely.
Elisabeth and Ilse decided to tell everybody—except Fräulein von Kesten—about the weddings. They would prepare something, so the Headmistress wouldn't miss the event. So much love would cause a lot of health problems for the hellish woman.
It was Sunday in the middle of June. During a week, the cooks tried to save enough ingredients to help with a surprise party for soon-to-be newlyweds.
Some time before the brides needed to go, the girls started to talk eagerly, to wish the brides happy marriage and so on. It didn't take long time for the Headmistress to leave her office to go investigate.
"What's all this noise about?"
"Here are two couples who will marry today," one girl explained.
Ilse was a little too bold, and when Fräulein von Nordeck looked at one of the walls, she saw an outrageous picture. There was a pencil picture of angry her and there was Ilse with text in a bubble, "love won, the Headmistress lost."
It was enough to make her unsteady. Less than an hour later an ambulance arrived and left to the local hospital.
Such news made everybody happy, the brides especially. No need to fight with Fräulein von Nordeck.
All four looked beautiful in white dresses. The office wasn't far, so it wasn't going to take a lot of time. All they needed was their love to be legalised, not two rich weddings.
What no of them could know is what would happen later. The cooks with help of the girls and staff threw a party for newlyweds. Of course, Fräulein von Kesten wasn't there. She left the school with the Headmistress to be there if needed.
This was the first time when the couples could kiss in front of everybody without being afraid of anything. Their dances. Their future. Love is love. No parents, no Headmistress had power to do something to change this.
