I decided I should make an intro post since I might actually post here sometime
You can call me Melon (or Miza it doesn't matter lol), pronouns are she/her and byte/bytes, and this is my multifandom art account. I also post fanfics on AO3 sometimes, under the same username.
A bit of byf info: I am an adult, I forget to use tone tags a lot of the time so just let me know if you need clarification, I'm also shy about talking to people so pls be patient with responses
(okay that's all i think, boring fandom info is below the cut if you're interested...)

Alrighty, here we go, my interests are:
UMAMUSUME WORLD TAKEOVER BABY WOOOOOOOHHHH (Stamps made by @/idolyuri)
SCP (Favorites are Clef, Kondraki, and my own 963 rewrite [Dr. Telo]) (And I do not care if someone still uses Bright/og-963, I just don't personally!)
Project Sekai (Favorites are L/N [Ichika #1], MMJ [Minori #1], and WxS [Nene #1])
Splatoon
Vocaloid
And probably some other things I can't remember right now
Because of ArtFight's recent rule clarification, I've seen discussion on whether tracing your own photos is the same as references them. This is, in my opinion, a matter of semantics. Tracing your own photos IS a method of using them as reference. It is perfectly normal and doesn't hurt anyone.
When it comes to self made resources (photos, sculpture, maquettes, 3D sculpts, etc) and resources made explicitly for artists to use (stock photos with appropriate permission, 3D models in CSP, etc), tracing can be ONE step of using them as a reference. It isn't a "crutch", it isn't cheating.
You can also put the photo up next to what you're drawing, and draw from sight. Or trace the photo a few times, then draw it separately. These all have value for different situations for learning, speed, and accuracy, and I recommend trying them ALL.
Regardless of what ArtFight decides, I want other artists to not be afraid of using this type of reference material in this way. It's very normal in both professional and hobby circles, it isn't harmful, and it doesn't make you a lesser artist. Hope this hasn't ruffled any feathers, keep drawing! <3
Listen you, Zenyatta fucking dominated a few years ago when she was racing. She’s one of, if not the greatest racehorse in my lifetime. She won 19 consecutive races on her 20 race career. (She came in second in her final race. Lost by a few inches. Mike Smith, her jockey, broke down crying afterwards and blamed himself for the loss.)
Watching her was an incredible, exhilarating experience. Seriously look up any of her races on YouTube. She was an amazing closing finisher. She’d be dead last until the very end before just blowing past her competition and leaving them all in her dust at the last moment.
She also had serious fucking personality. Before each race she would prance and paw at the ground, like a human athlete limbering up before competition. The most star quality I’ve ever seen from a horse.
I am literally the most casual horse racing fan you’d ever meet but yeah, I know Zenyatta by name. Also I have not a fucking clue who this Zenyatta character tumblr likes is. So you know, to each their own.
To the anon who sent me the ask about Telo... I'm working on it, I prommy... I'm just in the college torture nexus rn... Take this doodle of them from a few months ago as an apology...
S'cuse me, just here to fire some rent lowering shots.
↓ Why SCP Doesn't Want Dr. Bright Anymore ↓
The Explanation:
Dr. Jack Bright is the author's self-insert, also known as TheDuckman/AdminBright. This person ended up using the character & their popularity/power as his author to elicit nudes from others, such as SCP/Bright fans and minors. This would also involve having these people wear the amulet (SCP-963) to fulfill their possession kink.
Right now, the SCP wiki no longer actively uses Dr. Bright, & wants to distance themselves from it. Instead, an official rewrite, Dr. Elias Shaw (by @daisybellejpeg), is being worked on to replace said character.
The Evidence:
- Images from chatrooms & comments (will need to scroll down)
- Daisybellejpeg's doc on Theduckman
- Allegations from another victim
What Can Be Done Regarding This In Fandom?:
- You can inform others, let others know not to use the character and especially why.
- You can use a rewrite, such as Dr. Shaw, or create your own. Just don't simply rename and let every other detail alone. SCP is about creativity. Daisy has outlined some guidelines for making rewrites.
Dr. Myriad, my rewrite (shown above with the gun) can also be read about on this blog & used with some understanding and permission.
- Learning to distance yourself from said character, piece by piece, is always a good start. Name, then design, then anomaly, however you want to take it. But the important part is letting go of Dr. Bright.
What SHOULDN'T Be Done Regarding This In Fandom?:
- Do not simply rename Dr. Bright to Dr. Shaw & be done with it. Dr. Shaw has his own backstory, his own anomaly, and is an entirely different character. Changing nothing but the name defeats the whole purpose.
- Simply saying "I don't support the author" and continuing to use the self insert that baited people into being abused is not a solution, and in fact also makes you a target.
- Do not continue to use the amulet (SCP-963). It was used multiple times for fetish reasons. You can easily change it to something else that isn't a trigger for several victims.
- I should not have to outline why shipping an abuser's self insert with their victim's character is wrong.
Remember that just because someone is no longer publicly active in fandom spaces does not mean they cannot benefit from their planted roots. They have been banned from cons, have an active storefront still (which should be reported if you see them as a vendor) and victims that were not just curated online.
Protect yourselves & don't make yourself another target. As someone who used to love the character, let Dr. Bright die, dammit.
As an extra note, I do not condone harassment. I am posting this on my own blog, & this may spread through word of mouth or tags, but this is my space to do what I want. This is simply for those who wish to learn. Some people may have a hard time of letting go of a character, whether by fictive or personal attachment, but it's important not to villainize & harass, rather encourage on the process of letting go.
