This is the design that started it all!

Red Tape originally began as a just-for-fun character design project! I never intended it to be a full comic, let alone my favorite project!

I struggled with deciding on the story behind him. It was very much a “rule of cool” design process! I knew three things about click when I finished this.

1. He had a loved one who had been in the military (old fashioned bomber jacket that isn’t’t his size)

2. He lived somewhere that wasn’t super safe (mask, gloves, heavy shoes)

3. He was a photographer

At this point, these things were subject to change, but they ended up sticking around!

Im proud of myself for putting the work in for this design! I used a lot of references, and didn’t go with the first idea I came up with. I feel like the silhouette is stronger than some of my other designs too!

Visual references are pictured here! General aesthetic inspirations are primarily the Danger Days music videos and comic series, as well as retro futurism and punk adjacent fashion
