I've been getting back into comics while I wait for more info from my concept job, and I thought I'd make a post about something very important to me, which is COMIC PANEL VARIATION and HOW TO THINK ABOUT IT.
Also, yes, before you ask, these rules can absolutely be broken. I strategically break them to create a noticeable shift or flow in the storytelling, like so:
You can also probably make your own set of 5 IN 5 rules! I like to draw facial expressions and backgrounds and hands (like a masochist), so my 5 in 5 is definitely geared towards that. If you like to make more quiet, introspective comics, you could throw in a panel with NO DIALOGUE every 5 pages, or a mood panel with no characters, for example!
"The Kiss of the Sphinx" created by German sculptor Christian Behrens around 1880.

Seeing the tags in reblogs is really important to me. It's the most genuine way people leave comments/words on my work on any social media platform, either directly or indirectly, and I always feel really humbled and grateful to read them. Seeing tumblr remove that is really sad. Why are you cutting off OPs from commentary on THEIR OWN POST?
edit: case in point (desktop dash vs out-of-date tumblr mobile app) tip while I'm at it: always turn off auto updates on all your apps
laughing i can't even see these 150+ reblogs on dash, this is such a bad update lol

What do you guys mean this is not what happened at the landsmeet??
Honestly I loved the whole landsmeet quest, especially researching all the different outcomes of how it can go. But it was one of those occasions where I missed more argumentative dialogue options.. and somehow my mind jumped to Ace Attorney. I don;t have any regrets

I am incredibly pleased to say that I did a story with @bailiesartblog about teen trans witches for Tiny Onion's MONSTERS IN LOVE: A PRIDE ANTHOLOGY! I am so happy with how this story turned out and I can't wait for you to read it!
This anthology has a murderer's row of comic talent! Read more about MONSTERS IN LOVE here: https://dailydead.com/exclusive-dark-horse-comics-and-tiny-onion-teaming-up-for-monsters-in-love-a-pride-anthology/

YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
Hi! I know you used to occasionally post stuff on twitter but I'm sorta scared to go back there and I wanted to know if you have any books you'd suggest for Southern Folklore?
I recommend the top 4 books as they are straight to the point folktales. Very good for a child's bookshelf. I grew up with the Virginia Hamilton books. The Henry Lewis Gates Jr. book is MASSIVE and extensive. It isn't solely focused on southern tales, but since black Americans are mostly in the south or from the south, the tales are still southern. --- I recommend Zora Neale Hurston's stories, collections, and accounts for a full immersion from a Black Southern Folklorist/Cultural Historian's POV --- As for general southern folklore, I have not looked into that. I would recommend starting by state or region within a state, then branch out. Appalachia has a lot of folklore, for example Gullah Geechee as well Creoles Cajuns Delta Region etc etc
Posting art is so embarrassing. Like here's what's in my psyche i guess. Jesus christ
