kasey has black veins on various parts of her body because of her abilities. they become more apparent when her abilities activate. like i said, she tends to look a lil demonic đč
At some point, dear Kasey, you have to recognize that the dark and the light are not two opposing sides, but are instead two halves of the same power. You had the ability to choose the dark or the light at one point, and you chose that which would harm all around you. You did this to yourself. No one else made this choice for you.
the words of the voice around her sting an unbelieveable amount. they were right. a choice had been presented to her : follow the path of the light, or, be consumed by darkness. it brings a set of memories flooding back to her.
kasey never forgot the way the hallway lights flickered that night; how the shadows seemed to breathe with her, pulse with her anger. even now, buried beneath the persona of Shadowstrike, she could still smell the antiseptic sting of the high school infirmary and feel the raw ache in her knuckles.
it had started earlier that evening, when the rumor finally reached her. they were laughing about her powers again - the same group of students who had spent years calling her âcreep,â âfreak,â âvoid girl.â the same ones who thought it was hilarious every time a light dimmed around her or a shadow bent in a way it shouldnât. but this time it wasnât just mocking. they had taken it further . . . circulating a video of her losing control during a gym demonstration, edited to make her look monstrous. dangerous. inhuman. the humiliation wasn't the thing to break her.
it was the sight of her best friend, jonah, in the video comments laughing along with them. she remembered storming down the hallway, the world blurring in her peripherals. her power reacted instinctively, like a wounded animal; the shadows clung to her ankles, stretched across the walls, curling under doorways. she felt like she was sinking into herself, into that deep cold place she normally tried to hide. when she found the group behind the auditorium, they were still laughing. and she didnât give them a chance to stop.
the shadows lashed out before she even consciously willed it, tendrils of darkness coiling around their feet, yanking them to the ground, pinning them in place. the looks on their faces, initially annoyed, and then fear. it fueled her. their screams tear through the empty hall. and jonah . . . he stepped forward, hands raised, voice trembling. â kasey, stop. please. youâre scaring people. â she knew what he was really saying, behind those fearful, sugarcoated words. You are what they say you are. A monster. her voice didnât sound like her own when she spoke. it was low. ragged. darkened.
â good. â
the lights above them shattered, plunging the hallway into absolute darkness. in that void, she felt powerful for the first time. she wasn't scared, cornered, angry. she felt . . . arcane. like everyone around her bent the knee. as the teachers finally arrived, they found the students unconscious, jonah shaken and pale, and kasey standing calmly amid the swirling darkness. she smiled at them, something not quite human, and the shadows slipped into her lungs like a second breath. something inside her had aligned and clicked into place with terrible clarity that day. she walked away from the school that night and didnât look back. she wasnât kasey alcox anymore, the quiet girl who tried to fit into a world that rejected her. she was Shadowstrike, the darkness they had always feared she would become. and for the first time, it felt right.
kasey may be shy/mousy/quiet but she has many years of pent up rage behind her. she is still a former villain, who has done terrible things. sometimes, the impulsive thoughts almost win but the she remembers how many people are rooting for her.
