Landscape Intervention
Original image:
Drawn to the shape of this tree. Wanted to rebuild parts of tree that is missing using materials found in the area surrounding.
experimenting:
I orginally planned on making it look like a natural tree. However, final ended up becoming more experimental and unnatural.
Landscape New Topographic Image
Although it is amazing new trees are being planted The plastic that they are grown in now often left to rot and pollute the soil. It is actual detrimental for local wildlife and is not biodegradable. I wanted to focus on these for my new topographics image. The way that the trees are arranged in uniform, is uncanny. It is not the natural way that plants grow it is human altered. Wanted to focus on the plastic in this image.

Zine Layout
Different Spreads
I opted to have one image larger than the other but not taking up the full page and another with the two image smaller in the frame to create some variety.
Printing
I have decided to go with Good Press as I wanted to support a local business while making my zine. They offer the sort of printing I want for my zine. They were responsive to any emails I have sent to them and have given me advice on my zine layout.

Black and White
I decided to the convert the images into black and white as the black and white makes the images more consistent and encourages you to look at the details since this project is about similarities rather than the focusing on colours.
Potential Final Nature Images
Editorial Optimization
In terms of optimisation I wanted to keep things fairly minimal. Since I opted top go for on camera flash, the lighting in the images is consistent which helps to tie all of the images together stylistically. However, I found that the colours in the images could pop a little more so I globally increased the vibrance of the images before using the HSL to increase the hue and saturation of the colours most prominent in each image. In the above image I increased the orange, green and red, as well as the blue to make the eyeliner cop a little more.
Editorial Contact Sheets
I came up with 3 seperate outfits with differing textures that work together as a set. I shot in a different room for each outfit to create some variety.
For my final selection I am not sure if I want to focus on only one outfit or take some from all three. When creating the images I had the intention of using images from all three. The fashion stories that I consume and enjoy always use different outfits.
Editorial Inspiration
Harley Weir
Harley Weir is a photographer who shoots in a variety of ways, yet the recurring trend in her images is how surreal they are. She does this through styling, lighting, especially posing and background. Her images feel like caricatures. This is something I considered when thinking of how to tackle my editorial project.
Georgia Pendlebury
Georgia Pendlebury is a stylist based in Paris. I discovered them through looking at magazine credits, and found that much of the styling I was drawn to turned out to be their work. I admire the excessive layering and use of colouring in their work. Their eye for silhouettes and colour palettes is something I am drawn to.
'Kristen Owens at Home'
This is an unpublished project with model Kirsten Owens and photographer Paulo Sutch taken in the models home using their own clothing. I like that we can see the backdrop and how natural it appears as it is not neat and tidy. I intend to use a similar home background. The images although insightful and more personal than what we are used to seeing of models however, it does have an uncanny feel to it through owens' lack of expression and still posture.
Zine Research
Brief Zine History
Zines are usually in small circulation and are more about community. The first zine can be traced by the 1930s with sci-fi zines, this trend deepened in the late 1960s with star trek fanzines.
Technological advancements of the photocopier in the 1960s and 70s allowed for zines to be easier to produce than ever and cheaper. Around this time and in the 80s there was a boom in zine productions due to the punk scene. These zines led to more DIY zines and a less sophisticated look.
In the 1990s with the riot grrrl movement zines were a safe space for women to take control to express themselves freely and share their political beliefs. These zines presented personal experiences of women and created a sense of community
Today zines come in many different forms both digital and physical. They still share the sense of community and have a focus on subcultures.
Zine Inspiration
Upon a visit to street level I found the following 3 zines most inspiring.
I like that this zine is a stabled booklet, this is the sort of zine that feels more within my budget. I like the abstraction of the images due to the pink ink, it is unique. I like the changes in size of the images, one image being large and the other being smaller. This is something I want to consider in my own images.
I like the glossy quality of these pages, it makes the colours pop so much more. I like the subtle changes in layout in this zine; the small border around some photos and then some of the images smaller in the page.
This zine has a bunch of different textures and uses different kinds of paper, it is more interactive. I think this brings so much more depth to the images. This has broadened my perspective on zines and I would like to produce a similar zine someday however for my documentary project I think this may be out with my current budget.
Documentary Revision
I decided to change my plan for my documentary zine. I have changed my plan because I was questioning the ethics of this for such a time, that I felt I would not have the time to treat the project with the consideration and extension research that it deserves.
Revised Plan
For this project, I intend on photographing the physical similarities between humans and the natural world. This project would be a reminder to us that we are animals, we are one with nature. We are all connected and the belief that we are other than nature is inaccurate.
Paper on human's disconnect with nature.
Example :-
Bark - Wrinkled skin
Tree Sap - Saliva
Leaves - Veins
Editorial Plan
For my Editorial fashion shoot I planned on building a narrative around a surreal character within the images.
The styling within it is inspired by slavic fashion, incorporating different textures and silhouettes. Inspired by the imagery I see in one of my favourite art journals, Aleï Journal.

Mood boards showing aesthetics I'm going for:
Glassware
When going around different stations to practice the different techniques to shoot glassware I was most drawn to this set up.
Practice Shoot
I used a snoot to try light the details of the bottle and the top of the bottle but found it difficult to light both using this adjustment. The light in the background is quite dull. I am not being sold on this bottle. Next time I will try to light the lid and the bottle more.
Final Glassware Image
I used a long soft box to light more of the bottle from the front and used a reflector on the right hand side to give the bottle more dimension. I put the gobo horizontal to create wave like shapes. I sprayed the bottle to add more texture and to make the drink look more refreshing.
