I just wanna yap a bit abt Bill Cipher's Great Escape (you can read it here /selfpromo)

The Coffee Shop scenario is the first one I came up with because I was bored at work (as a barista ofc).

The main inspiration for Chapter 5 (EUCLYDIA) was originally going to be the episode "Normal Again" from BtVS, where the main character's injected with a poison that makes her hallucinate a whole other life where she's been institutionalized and the events of the show are all just a delusion she's been living in. But then I thought "man, trying to escape from a mental health facility only to end up in another one back in your home dimension is a bummer" so I switched gears and went in the direction of "Perchance to Dream" from Batman: The Animated Series (Batman is hypnotized to believe he's living in a world where his parents are alive and he never became Batman). Thankfully, Bill's tendency for self-sabotage actually helped him get out of there.

Bill's a mama's boy so even though he's all "ooh I don't need anyone, I never have, connection makes you weak", some part of him's grateful to have gotten to hug his mom again :(

The ending convo with his therapist about why he hates the Theraprism is the most honest he's been about anything for a long time, so the Euclydia nightmare/all that projecting did kind of help in a way.

Also, the stim toy that Bill plays with in that final chapter is the same one that I always go for in therapy, but I have no idea what it's called lmao

Main inspiration for the Billford dynamic (and what I almost named the final chapter over) was the song "WDYTWH" by TopHouse.

He’s missed being obsessed over, damn-near worshipped, examined not out of scrutiny but of genuine curiosity. The doctors in Euclydia poked and prodded at him with tests to figure out what was wrong, how to fix him. Ford chases understanding him, not changing him.

...To understand Bill is a Sisyphean task, but something about the idea is cute all the same.
