When Marc wakes up, he stirs his body and feels a pang of disappointment when he realizes that the bed is empty. The briefest of panic sits with him before he reminds himself of Valentino's words maybe 10 hours prior, how he had promised to take Marc to the airport before kissing his neck good night, tangling their bodies together.
This is Valentino's home, he can't have gone too far.
When Marc opens his eyes and they properly adjust to the darkness around him, panic comes back in full force, the bluntest of headache setting between his temples within a few seconds.
Finding the remote to open his electric blinds is instinct despite the five months that have gone since the last time he was here. Even as he gets up, there is no amount of pinching himself that can deny the fact that he's back in his own bedroom, in Madrid.
Marc finds his phone on his bedside table, the lockscreen a black and white photo he has never seen before. If he was able to think properly, Marc would probably recognize the back of Valentino where he is sitting at the edge of the pool Marc could see if he peered through his window.
The date on the home screen reads Thursday the 21st of November 2024, just as it should. In the stack of notifications, there is a text from Valentino, a red heart he seemingly sent at 23:58 the previous night.
On the periphery of his vision, a bright yellow sticky note grabs his attention away from the screen Marc doesn't even know what to do with. The note is stuck to a journal and it reads READ ME ASAP!! in a handwriting scarily similar to his.
The sticky note discarded to the side, Marc opens the journal to its first page.
