I do know that love, real love, is choosing each other through all of it, every single day. Beginning and and middle and end. To All The Boys: Always And Forever (2021) dir. Michael Fimognari
Unpopular opinion regarding the plastic surgery scene
Watching the scene I thought they went to a dermatologist and were getting to the root of her insecurities. However, her mom took jukyung to the plastic surgeon. Yes I do believe it wasn't a great decision for the mom to do but I'm glad it showed some character development for the mom. She was trying to fix things with good intentions. We've seen since ep 1 how awful she treated her daughter for being "ugly" and abusing her, throwing away her makeup, etc. When the surgeon told her that jukyung needed a whole facial reconstruction she hated the idea that her daughter needed to cut, grind and carve in order to deem it as beautiful. She says " who gets to decide what is pretty and ugly. My daughter is pretty in my eyes." This is the first time we've seen her acknowledge jukyung's bare face is pretty and defends her.
Additionally, I think going there had more to do of Korea's beauty and social standards. Perhaps even their views towards facial surgery. A friend of mine went to Korea after high school just to get plastic surgery done before he came back to the states for college. And many of my korean friends have mentioned about the topic before. I can't accurately say anything about the culture and perspective because I'm not korean but maybe having this scene is something that was needed in a plot that centered around looks and being pretty with a culture that values high beauty standards.

I know now that I donāt want to love or be loved in half measures. I want it all, and to have it all, you have to risk it all.
