spicing up your tagalog with slang
here’s a fun post before i continue posting completely in tagalog! use at your own risk 😉
akads - short for academics. refers to schoolwork.
ahas - lit. snake. usually refers to the person who stole your significant other lol
asa ka pa - don’t get your hopes up
auq ko na - pronounced as ayoko na. an expression towards the feeling of futility. for when you want to give up
badtrip! - an expression of disappointment
barkada - group of friends
bat - shortened way of saying bakit, meaning why
bes / beshie - you call your friends this. like bestie or fam
buwaya - lit. means alligator. refers to a corrupt politician
bwisit! - an expression of annoyance
charot! - an expression when you want to tell your friends
chorva / echos / kwan - the tagalog filler word for when you forgot what the thing is called
conyo - yes like the spanish word. usually refers to the rich people who speak tagalog with an accent.
dedma - to ignore someone
ek-ek - unnecessary things
epal - annoying person who seeks attention too much
gets ba? - “do you understand?”
kabit - the person you are cheating with
kaloka - “that’s so crazy” doesn’t fully capture it but it’s close enough
keri - to be able to do something
malay ko ba - “how would i know”
malandi - flirty. usually not in a good way
plastik - when you pretend to be friends with someone then you stab them in the back you are plastik
nawiwindang ako - when you’re immensely tired. either from work, current events, or that stupid pun your friend made
tanders - from matanda. a joking way to call someone old.
