He couldn’t help himself. The instant he caught sight of the smile forming across his twin’s face, Félix’s mouth soon quirked to match it. If there was even the slightest chance that anyone wouldn’t believe they were related, they could see that exchange and be convinced forever.

“A little of both. Father will probably request you’re accompanied, at the very least…” He glanced at Chloe, the Pikachu still intent on grooming herself until her fur was pristine and shining. “That said, I can think of nothing I would rather do, than spend time helping my favorite brother learn the finer points of Pokemon training.”

“Well, I certainly can’t think of anyone I’d rather set out on an adventure with than you,” Adrien provided as his grin only continued to build along with his excitement.

Not only was he finally going to try his hand at being an actual trainer, but he was going to get to do it with his brother at his side--which was, admittedly, his preferred method for anything he did.

Of course, they had to speak with their father about it first, and there was always the chance that he would deny their request or impose some stipulations that would make their real goal impossible to achieve without word getting back to him, but Adrien was determined to stay optimistic. If it was the two of them together, they could surely see to the success of any plan.

“So we should probably decide what we’re going to tell Father, and figure out what route we should take so he won’t think we’re doing anything but visiting contests... But our first stop is definitely Santalune City, right? I already can’t wait, Fé!”

He should have known the answer to that. After all, who knew his brother better than he did? Félix hummed softly in agreement, mulling it over in his mind.

Their father didn’t want either of them competing in something so mundane. Even if it was a right of passage as a Pokemon trainer - no, Gabriel Agreste made it quite clear early on that his children were restricted. Held back to contests, breeding and primping, coming out on top with the most elegant, refined Pokemon in the region.

“Don’t let Father hear you say that,” he gave a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “But, if you’d like to start the gym circuit, you’ll need to travel to Santalune City.” His gaze flickered up, just for a moment, from the table to catch his brother’s eye. “I don’t suppose you’ll want company?”

“What else is new?” He wanted to quip as his brows pinched and his lips turned downwards ever so slightly.

Instead he held his tongue, gaze falling to his Pokemon as he ran his fingers through her fur.

“I know.”

He knew the one thing that their father hated more than the practice itself was the idea that his sons might be involved with it--a fact that was hard to forget when the man so often scowled at even the mention of battling--but that didn’t mean Adrien was content to just give up.

“I’d still like to try, though. And if I’m competing in contests, too, well... He doesn’t have to hear about both of those things, does he? At least if I’m no good or it’s not for me, I’ll know I’m not doing it because it’s what I want, not because it’s what he thinks is best for me. I think I could live with that.”

Looking back at Félix in time to catch his glance, a smile began to form.

“Is that an offer or a request?”

“I nearly got run over by the person stocking bread at the store. Talk about getting boule-d over!”

Fé drummed his fingers on the table in thought, humming softly by way of response. Watching with only mild interest as the little lightning mouse jumped back onto the surface, licking her paws to clean her ears. Such a finicky little thing.

“I’m not saying Vivi isn’t powerful. For an Eevee, her stats are actually pretty impressive.” He seemed to examine the fox Pokemon a bit closer. “…What are your travel plans?”

Félix’s words had him wondering over the potential of his Pokemon. It was something he rarely considered because he had always been far more concerned with the potential companionship that they provided than whether they could stand to take down any opponents who might cross their path.

But... it was still important, wasn’t it? To be prepared to face anything that might happen outside of his admittedly small bubble.

“Nothing out of the usual. I’d like to complete the local gym circuit, if I can.”

Rubbing at his own cheek next, Félix makes sure the heavy sigh is siphoned through his nose so it doesn’t make too much noise.

“Chloé, here,” he offers his hand and the Pikachu clambers up onto his shoulder, the trainer taking a seat at the table across from his twin. He adores Adrien. He really, truly does. “I was explaining IV training, versus contest training. You may as well learn about both of them.”

He cant help a wry smile as he adds, “You could stand to learn how to listen, first.”

Trying to control his chagrin as his bluff was called, Adrien swallowed down the warmth that was trying to pool against his cheeks and continued as though he hadn’t heard that last comment.

“Is it really that important?” His hand moved to the Eevee’s slender ears, playing with one for the short moment he was allowed before it was flicked away, his Pokemon tilting her head so that they are no longer immediately within his grasp. He settled for the thick collar of fur at her neck instead. “I’m not doubting you, but Vivi’s pretty tough already, right?”

The creature yawned.

“…so if you really want to focus on this aspect of training, it isn’t that–”

Félix glances up from where a palm still rests on his Pikachu’s cheek, exhaling a little and thanking Arceus that he has patience upon patience for his brother.

“Adrien, are you listening?”
