hi and welcome to my art blog hehe! I go by ruthie or jackie either are great and uhhh I art sometimes!

my main blog is @ruthiejacquelinerambles though I do not suggest going there unless you like extremely random rambling :D

so! I’m always open for doodles requests or rambles, and if you ever want to show me some art you did I’d love to see those too!

I mostly/only do traditional art, just because the only way I could do digital is if I did it on my mom’s ipad and uh I don’t really want her to see my doodles (she’d judge me so bad ehehe)

drawing me and my missing sibling part 1

yes this is going to become a series

okay small explanation when I was younger my mother had a miscarriage. it was extremely traumatic for her and confusing for me. my sisters who were alive at the time were too young to understand or even really remember it, but I remember being very confused and wondering “why did God take my sibling away from me?”

after that, my mother went on to have two more children, which I love and am grateful for. but I’ve never been able to shake the feeling that there could’ve been another one, a fifth sweet little face for me to see each morning, for me to protect, to guide. I don’t know if anyone else ever feels like this, but I think about this missing sibling almost every day.

I believe life starts at conception, and I know this sibling is waiting up in Heaven to meet us someday. drawing this helped heal me a bit, and I’m gonna draw some more ^^

(if y’all don’t like this kinda art, then lmk and I won’t post it! :3 it’s pretty personal but I’m proud of how it came out, so yeah hehe)

hi ruthie, as someone who usually struggles on how to draw open eyes and expressions and loves your art style... would you have any tips on drawing eyes or expressions in general?

Oo! This is a fun question!!

Let’s see, I drew a whole little drawing tips page and accidentally went overboard so I’ll talk about what you actually asked here and then put other art ramblings under the cut ^^

For eyes, I do this thing that I will call the Ruthie Method even though lots of artists probably do this ehehe!

I have four (five if you count eyelashes) different eye types that I use. Default, happy/concerned, shocked, and squinting. Combine one of those with any of my three mouth types

Smiling, default, and closed, and with any random hodgepodge of eyebrow positions

They’re literally just sticks ehehe ^^

And you have an expression!

It gives my art style a consistent, almost cartoony feel in my mind. Plus, you can change the shape of the eyes for different characters, so for example, when I draw Vio, I make his eyes more squinty

And when I draw my sona (as I showed above,) her eyes are more open and wide. But the same presets are still used for different eye shapes.

In addition, if you headcanon this, you can have the ears move to emphasize emotion

These are honestly my favorite part to draw :3

okie more ramblings under cut ✨

Here’s the steps that I take to draw a headshot. You start with an oval, then build around that to make the basic face shape. Then you add a neck/upper body. Then you add the 1st layer of hair + the ears, then the 2cd layer of hair. To me, the layers of hair go like: bangs, background hair/down hair, ponytail/pulled up hair. And then when I draw the classic Link sideburns they are usually either last or go along with the background hair. Then you erase the guides in the face and draw the eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, etc!
