A Black Panthers press conference at the Alameda County Courthouse
A speech by Bobby Seale, in which he points out that African Americans have been fighting for the U.S. government in armed conflicts since the Civil War and they still haven’t won their freedom.
Without Althea, There Is No Serena
Well before this year’s U.S. Open got underway it was clear that, regardless of who was playing on Arthur Ashe Stadium at any given time, Serena Williams would be the main event. In her quest to tie Steffi Graf with 22 majors and become the first woman since Graf in 1988 to win the Grand Slam, everyone has come down with a case of Serena Fever — she’s covering magazines, starring in inspirational commercials, and prompting the women’s final to sell out before the men’s final for the first time in U.S. Open history.
Fantastic read. You go, girls!

An Interactive Guide To Police Killings And The System That Excuses Them
Upon hearing the news that NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo, caught on film using an illegal chokehold and ignoring Eric Garner’s now-famous cry of “I can’t breathe,” would not be indicted, hundreds of thousands of Americans took to the streets in protest. Major New York thoroughfares were clogged for days with protesters chanting “black lives matter,” “shut it down,” and “the whole damn system is guilty as hell.”
Wait so why is it that all the sudden when these two white people get shot all the white people on my news feed pipe up about how senseless the world is and how our country is going down the drain and how their hearts are breaking but when unarmed black men and women are killed or when a white person shoots up a school or a movie theater or a church they're silent? I don't even think most of these people realize what they're doing. We can do better, white people. Be vocal about your disgust not just for the deaths of other white people, but for their faults and ugliness too, and for the deaths of people of all races. Because if you're going to be vocal about something, you need to be vocal. Not selectively offended, but offended. Open your eyes; look at yourself.

This Artist Is Using ‘Artivism’ To Break Down Queer Stigma And Stereotypes
A Venezuelan artist is making a bold statement about queerness and art’s power to aid in the breaking down of stereotypes related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) identity. The “ I’m Not A Joke” campaign from Daniel Arzola is a series of images inscribed with compelling truths about human diversity that encourages individuals to live as their authentic selves.
