Kering and the Festival de Cannes will present the 2026 Women In Motion Award to Academy Award, Emmy, Golden Globe and BAFTA winning actress Julianne Moore at the official Women In Motion Awards ceremony, held as part of the Festival. The Award, presented in Cannes since 2015, celebrates female artists whose careers and commitment have advanced the role of women both in cinema and in society.

Julianne Moore is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished and multifaceted actresses of her generation. She is also celebrated for championing women’s voices and diversity in the film industry, and for advocating greater representation and equality, values that lie at the heart of the Women In Motion program. Beyond her work on screen, she is deeply committed to social causes, including as founding chair of Everytown for Gun Safety’s Creative Council, where she advocates for ending gun violence in America.

art l The Fortress / Dries Verhoeven for La Biennale di Venezia

For the 61st edition of La Biennale di Venezia, Dries Verhoeven, in collaboration with curator Rieke Vos, presents The Fortress: a work that takes the contradictions of the Biennale itself as its point of departure. According to Verhoeven and Vos, the Giardini della Biennale, with its thirty national pavilions, reflects a world order from a bygone era, one in which former Western superpowers still take center stage. Countries that in reality are fortifying their borders and rearming stand side by side here, with open doors and in apparent harmony. In this sense, the Giardini is a site of nostalgic wishful thinking—the park sustains the image of an enlightened tradition and a hopeful shared future.

The Fortress addresses self-preservation and protectionism in the face of profound geopolitical uncertainty. The Dutch Rietveld Pavilion, built in the optimistic aftermath of the Second World War, has historically embodied ideals of transparency and progress. Modernist architecture functioned as a spatial expression of democratic openness. Verhoeven’s intervention destabilises this legacy. At fixed intervals throughout the day, the pavilion performs a transformation that symbolically reverses its founding principles. Once a group of visitors has entered the building, steel shutters gradually close across its glass façades. Rattling and grinding, the modernist monument closes itself off from the outside world.

Inside, this steel veil dims the light of the sun-drenched space. What was once bright, transparent and accessible becomes dark and withdrawn. Performers gradually distance themselves from the audience, as if the darkness itself is taking hold. As the symbolic end of the enlightened era approaches, the work suggests that irrational impulses are gaining the upper hand. First comes despair, followed by desolation.

The Biennale takes place from 9 May to 22 November, with a preview opening for invited guests from 5 to 8 May.

From Wednesday to Sunday, the Dutch Pavilion is accessible at 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00.

On Tuesdays, the work is presented as a closed sculpture.

art l Printemps des Art de Monte Carlo, opening weekend

Grand opening of the festival, a pleasant two hours evening, started with creation of Marc Monet, framed by two Stravinsky etudes (QUATRE ÉTUDES POUR ORCHESTRE, TROIS PIÈCES POUR QUATUOR À CORDES), followed by a conference, part of the Printemps des Art educational series. The provocative and jagged rhythm of melody narrative, as if inherited from Godard's stylistic tricks and filled with a questioning of the modern society, in the spirit of Céline's prose, resoundingly, like The Rite of Spring, evoked an emotional outburst from the Monte Carlo audience.

As if continuing the canons of Diaghilev's avant-garde, which found refuge precisely at the Hotel de Paris in Monaco and far from snowy St. Petersburg, Marc Monet provoked a mixed reaction from the evening's audience, but few were indifferent. Having concluded the magical evening with a half-hour of Debussy, the festival audience was left in anticipation of the following evenings of the spring marathon, perhaps strolling past the monument to the famous impresario opposite the Monte Carlo Opera.

art l Closing this week : Joseph Cornell’s Studio Re-Created by Wes Anderson in Gagosian Paris

Gagosian is pleased to announce The House on Utopia Parkway: Joseph Cornell’s Studio Re-Created by Wes Anderson, an exhibition conceived by curator Jasper Sharp and the acclaimed American filmmaker. Opening December 16, 2025, it brings the artist’s New York studio to the heart of Paris, transforming the storefront gallery at 9 rue de Castiglione into a meticulously staged tableau—part time capsule, part life-size shadow box—for the first solo presentation of Cornell’s work in Paris in more than three decades.

Joseph Cornell (1903–1972) could not draw, paint, or sculpt, and received no formal art education, yet he produced one of the most original and extraordinary bodies of work of any artist in the twentieth century. Though he never left the United States, the city of Paris lived vividly in his imagination. He wandered its streets through postcards, guidebooks, and conversations with his friend Marcel Duchamp, and dedicated dozens of artworks to its poets, palaces, and historical protagonists. In the modest family home on Utopia Parkway in Queens, New York, that he shared with his mother and brother, he worked in a basement studio lined with shelves of whitewashed shoeboxes and tins filled with objects gathered during his forays through Manhattan bookstores, antique shops, and neighborhood dime stores. He referred to this collection of prints, feathers, maps, marbles, toys, seashells, and other ephemera as his “spare parts department.” It provided the raw materials for intricate collages, assemblages, and shadow boxes that would influence generations of artists—from Yayoi Kusama, Robert Rauschenberg, Betye Saar, Carolee Schneemann, and Andy Warhol to many working today.

This exhibition—conceived by curator Jasper Sharp and the acclaimed American filmmaker Wes Anderson—brings Joseph Cornell’s New York studio to the heart of Paris for the first solo presentation of his work in the city in more than four decades.

Moving chronologically through key moments in Goldstein’s life and practice, the book offers a nuanced portrait of a significant artist while exploring broader questions about images, artistic subjectivity, and belief in art.

Dumbadze and Aubart are both well-versed in the artistic experiments of the 1970s and 1980s in the US, and the vicissitudes of their actors – so expect the unexpected, even if you’re watching pirate copies of Goldstein’s movies in a loop on your tablet screen.

Yes, it’s really conversation week, and this vendredi, Henrike Kohpeiß and Jackqueline Frost will discuss Kohpeiß’s Bourgeois Coldness (Divided Publishing, 2025), an examination of coldness as an affective condition that continues to shape the European subject. Coldness produces, as the author puts it, “an affective shelter in the world, unencroached upon by the immediate consequences of its many catastrophes. It functions like air conditioning – a complex technology which reliably stabilises the climate until those inside consider it natural. Bourgeois spaces – institutional and affective – stay cool and pleasant. But outside it’s burning.” In Kohpeiß’s essay, canonical critical theory by Adorno and Horkheimer enters a dialogue with Black studies through Hartman and Moten, and proposes a critical approach as well as alternative paths and perspectives. by A. fashion l MoMu celebrates 40 years of the Antwerp Six with a unique exhibition in 2026

In 2026, MoMu will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the international breakthrough of the Antwerp Six. This will be the first time that a major exhibition is devoted to these six iconic fashion designers.

The exhibition highlights the unique trajectory that connects these six exceptional designers. It began with their study at the fashion department at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and resulted in six highly influential solo careers. In 1986, Dirk Bikkembergs, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene and Marina Yee put Antwerp on the fashion map when they each presented their own collections at the British Designer Show in London. This led to their international breakthrough and established the City of Antwerp as a capital of fashion. Their unique designs continue to influence international fashion today.

In September 2026, the Château de Versailles will celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Sofia Coppola’s film Marie Antoinette through an exhibition presented at the Petit Trianon, a place intimately linked to the queen and the setting for numerous scenes of the film. Now a cult classic, Marie Antoinette profoundly renewed the image of the last queen, helping to shape a cultural icon blending history, modernity and pop imagination. Awarded the Academy Award for Best Costume Design in 2007, Sofia Coppola’s distinctive aesthetic —combining historical rigour, contemporary boldness and pastel refinement — gave rise to a true “Marie Antoinette style”, whose influence is still felt in fashion, design and photography.

Deployed at the heart of the Trianon estate, the exhibition will invite visitors behind the scenes of this cinematic creation: original costumes by Milena Canonero, filming accessories, storyboards, annotated scripts, set photographs and set design sketches. Screenings will allow visitors to revisit sequences filmed in the very rooms where they were shot, offering a unique immersive experience in which the historic space and its cinematic reinterpretation resonate with one another.

cinema l Xiu Xiu performance tribute to David Lynch at Cinema Palace, Brussels Legendary cult band performs reinterpretation/tribute to macabre masterpiece

For more than twenty years now, Xiu Xiu (US) (pronounced: Shoo-Shoo) has been known for their whimsical, unpredictable and consistently brilliant output. They have released more than 15 albums, praised by The New Yorker, The Wire and The Guardian.

Through their music, the band explores the complexity of themes like love, sex, death and injustice. Xiu Xiu – now reduced to the duo Jamie Stewart and Angela Seo – has collaborated with Liz Harris (Grouper), Chelsea Wolfe, Japanese noisemaster Merzbow and Devendra Banhart, amongst others.

Stewart – the only permanent original member – has a fierce admiration for filmmaker David Lynch: “Without him, I would never have become an artist. My entire life, I have relied on him to continue to guide me. His uncompromising search for emotional extremes, imagination, exploration, meaning and fierce courage has always been my benchmark for what art can be.”

In 2015, Stewart joined forces with composer Lawrence English as HEXA. Together, at Lynch’s invitation, they created a live soundtrack for his Factory Photographs. A year later, with the blessing of Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, they released the LP Plays the Music of Twin Peaks, which immediately achieved cult status. Pitchfork: “It’s one of their most haunting and beautiful LPs.”

After Lynch’s untimely death in 2025, the band received the request to resurrect their Twin Peaks tribute. But instead of repeating themselves, they wanted to take a deeper dive by radically reimagining a work from Lynch’s oeuvre. The tribute became …

Xiu Xiu x Eraserhead (David Lynch)

The original score by Alan Splet and Lynch served as a haunting beacon, but Xiu Xiu turned it into a unique sound hallucination, combining field recordings, homemade instruments, organ, modular synths, vocals, pocket torches, electrical static and musique concrète.

The duo immerses itself in a nightmarish world full of sexual tension, industrial menace and bizarre lunar madness. The associated visuals – not a copy of the film as such – explore the disturbing, surreal and emotionally raw universe of Lynch’s debut. The result is a living video installation meets a cinematographic nightmare.

From Tuesday, January 27 explore the installation designed for the Dior haute couture show, presented in the heart of the Sculpture Garden at the Musée Rodin.

Grammaire des Formes presents an encounter between the world of internationally renowned Kenyan ceramicist Magdalene Odundo – born in 1950 – and Jonathan Anderson's first haute couture collection set in dialogue with Christian Dior's emblematic creations.

Notably inspired by the world of Magdalene Odundo, Jonathan Anderson's first haute couture collection initiates a conversation between couture and sculpture. Grammaire des Formes presents fifteen silhouettes from Jonathan Anderson's new line alongside seven works by Magdalene Odundo and nine historical designs by Christian Dior.

Handcrafting ceramic sculptures, Magdalene Odundo has developed a formal language that echoes the rhythms of the human body while recalling the ancestral traditions of pottery. With their generous curves and skilfully polished surfaces, her oeuvre distils centuries of knowledge into forms that are both intimate and monumental.

Mediators are present in the exhibition space to guide you through the discovery of the installation.

books l discussion around the publication of 'Violent America – The Films (1946–1964) ' A conversation with Philippe-Alain Michaud, Jonathan Pouthier, and Enrico Camporesi, respectively curator and curatorial staff of the Film Department at the Centre Pompidou, to discuss the recent publication by Macula of the book Violent America – The Films (1946–1964) – the French edition of a work conceived by curator and critic Lawrence Alloway (1926–1990). The result of a collaboration between pianist Vanessa Wagner and Collectif Scale, Figures of Glass is a hybrid project that explores the visual imagery of Philip Glass's music. To mark her recording of the complete Études for piano, the pianist has taken on a cornerstone of the 21st-century repertoire. She now unfolds the composer's emotional and colorful discourse alongside Collectif Scale, who transform the space with their latest installation. Figures of Glass is a device that connects the piano and light, establishing a dialogue between the score and the scenography. For the first time in Paris, this innovative creation immerses the audience in the hypnotic and poetic world of Philip Glass.

The Pasolini Factory is an invitation extended to Sylvain Creuzevault to open up his Pasolini world to the public. The director, along with his company, offers a spontaneous artistic gesture inspired by Petroleum.

Sylvain Creuzevault works by continent. After several years of engaging with Dostoevsky, the director continued his genealogical journey by exploring the multifaceted writings of Pasolini.

Having been committed since 2024 to exploring the diversity of the poet's writings, and following on from his production of Petroleum presented a few weeks earlier at the Odéon, Sylvain Creuzevault has chosen, for Fabrique Pasolini, to focus on certain passages from Pasolini's last, unfinished novel, performed by actors from the production and contextualized by specialists in Pasolini's work.

On stage, as if by spontaneous and intuitive strokes in what is not a staged performance, the writing of a few tales from Pasolini's inexhaustible and final writing project, Petroleum, is embodied simultaneously with Italian social life of the 1970s, captured through Pasolini's journalistic essays found in Corsair Writings or Lutheran Letters. The writer's eye, observing the capitalist society of his time, has lost none of its acuity fifty years later, and Sylvain Creuzevault inscribes this visionary reality in the snapshot of the actors' bodies.

fashion l celebrating the launch of CODE Magazine at Dover Street Market Paris. On the occasion of Couture Fashion Week, Dover Street Market Paris presents THE QUANTI·VERSE, celebrating the launch of CODE Magazine’s fourth print issue.

The evening opens with an audiovisual magazine reading by Natalie Mariko and Dylan Van Roost, followed by a live performance by Ouri and a closing DJ set from Paris‑based artist Erwan Sene.

This new issue of CODE stems from a year‑long investigation into the quantum universe—a heady look at simultaneity and the spooky action we exert on each other across time and distance. The opening reading, presented by managing editor Natalie Mariko with audiovisual artist Dylan Van Roost, unfolds as an immersive compilation of selected excerpts.

It is followed by a cello and vocal live set by Ouri, a Canadian musician born in French Guiana whose work moves between orchestral composition and electronic music. A producer, performer, DJ, and multi‑instrumentalist, she draws on her classical training to craft compositions balancing emotional depth with bold rhythmic expression.

The evening concludes with a DJ set by Erwan Sene, a Paris‑based sculptural artist and musician. He released his debut album JUnQ on PAN in 2023 and has performed at Berghain, Nuits Sonores, and Kanal – Centre Pompidou. He has also composed for contemporary dance and ballet, most recently Drip Techie at the Royal Danish Playhouse in Copenhagen.

In July 1971, the jury of the international architectural competition for the future Centre Pompidou, chaired by the architect and designer Jean Prouvé, awarded the prize to the project submitted by the team of Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers, Gianfranco Franchini, and the engineers of Ove Arup & Partners.

The 681 submissions presented crystallize the main movements that animated architecture at the time: conservatives of the fine arts tradition, defenders of expressionism, emissaries of modernism, proponents of post-war megastructures, young representatives of the avant-garde…

Thanks to some 100 archival documents, many of them previously unpublished, from the collections of the Centre Pompidou and the archives of the Academy of Architecture (plans, drawings, photographs, models, etc.), the exhibition revisits this rich and varied saga and highlights the lasting impact of the "Beaubourg competition" on the architectural discipline and the profession of architect.

art l talk : Thierry De Mey and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker For Rosas danst Rosas (1983), the choreography and music developed simultaneously. While the dancers rehearsed on the first floor, Thierry De Mey composed the music in the basement of the studio on Brabantstraat in Brussels. De Keersmaeker often calls De Mey her "artistic dealer," as he introduced the young choreographer to a wide range of music, films, and literary works. In 1997, De Mey adapted Rosas danst Rosas for camera, resulting in an innovative dance film that remains a benchmark today.
