YIPPEE i love this question!! sorry in advance if this turns out to be a long post, i’ll use the read more feature just in case :)
also, just to clarify, i’m relatively new to tumblr (joined late 2022). if i get anything wrong keep that in mind
i’m not sure what exactly you want to know, so i’ll just use basic information & questions i had when i first made this blog!!
1 ) don’t start up your blog with the intention of getting lots of attention or followers quick - focus on what you enjoy making firstly. some of your posts will get lotsa notes and some will barely reach 10 notes and i notice that that’s just normal, albeit disappointing sometimes
focus on what makes you happy, be it fandoms you enjoy or general interests you like. i find that focusing on things i enjoy makes it easier to be active, makes it easier to put out more content. more content means more eyes on you, on your content and your boards
also, putting out content you enjoy means more people who like the things you like will be drawn to you! i make boards for various fandoms, meaning i get more diverse fandom requests. if you primarily post about one or two fandoms, its likely you’ll get requests primarily about those fandoms - if you post primarily in the th.erian tag chances are you’ll get more th.erian related requests, and so on!
TL;DR - tag your posts, make content you enjoy

2 ) the algorithm is different from other social media platforms, as it relies on tagging. this is how you’re gonna gain the most traction, and it also just helps organize your blog
3 ) finding the right gifs can be hard
while pinterest is an option, it’s often looked down upon and it makes it harder to find new gifs. it also makes it harder to give proper credits, which is important!
i recommend just using the tumblr search option. when looking for specifics look up “(keyword) stim”
example:
red stim, dice stim, slime stim, blue stim, etc
another option is using the “filter by post” option. look up the specific thing you want, and select the GIF option
this will make it so only posts with gifs of said search will show up!

4 ) “i don’t know how to put in credits” “it won’t let me because i’m on mobile”
it’s possible on mobile, this isn’t an excuse to not provide sources!
“all gifs found on pinterest” “credit to gif creators” “gifs not mine” is not proper credit either!
heres how to source links on mobile
Use an app like Notes or Google Docs/Slides to keep track of links. Alternatively, you could keep the links in a draft post on tumblr
Double click the text you’re using to credit the sources
You’ll see an option that looks like this: 🔗. Click it and paste the link in the box that says “https://…”
Simply click “Add link” then bam!
if you get an error message, make sure you didn’t type anything afterwards, or make sure there isn’t an extra space before the link (something i do often)
5 ) here’s how to properly format your boards!
simply, hold the image down and drag it where you want it:
6 ) important resources!
ezgif : compressing, making, and cropping gifs made easy! comes out with generally good quality gifs and fairly easy to use :)
giphy : i don’t recommend this as it often comes out laggy and low quality, but its easy to use. i use this occasionally when i’m feeling lazy
and last but not least,
7 ) support our soldiers (gif creators) !! theres tons of creators out there and they’re a great source of gifs. theres lots more not tagged, these are just people i know of!
i’m not sure if these creators are comfortable being tagged, i’ll remove anyone tagged if asked!!
some of these blogs have different rules and dni’s than mine, keep that in mind
