Tell Me About Her

Day 7 of Mohabbot Week. The Free day! Straight up this idea came to me as I was driving around town today and yes, I did in fact cry writing this.

Once again, the biggest thanks for @mohabbotweek2026 for hosting this event this week and getting me out of a massive writing slump!

Sunlight filters into the bedroom, the rays peeking through the gaps in the curtains on the window. Jack covers his eyes with an arm, sighing. He feels Samira shift next to him, hears her groan as she stretches, and feeling as she places a hand on the arm closest to her, fingers tracing patterns on his freckles. 

She watches him, his muscles reacting to her touch, his breathing evening out, his one arm still covering his eyes. “Morning baby.” He says, voice raspy with sleep, as he finally drops his arm, turning his head to face her. “Morning.” She replies, reaching up to meet his lips with hers, the kiss soft and slow. Samira feels him pull away, gazing at her like she’s hung the moon. 

She feels his palm rest on her belly, as if he could feel the life within. Neither could believe they’d made it this far, but they’re both glad they did. “Size of a lime today.” Jack says, as Samira raises a brow. “App notification went off earlier.” “Ahh.” Samira says, sitting up, rubbing her sternum. “Little lime needs to chill out. Heartburn first thing is not what I wanted this morning.” She grabs the tums on her nightstand, popping them into her mouth, a grimace on her face.

“What did you want this morning?” “You, breakfast, and to see Annie. We haven’t seen her in a bit, but only if you’re up for it.” “Well you’ve got me, breakfast and Annie can be arranged. I think she’d like to know about Squish.” “Squish?” “Why not? People call babies peanut and nugget, why not call ours Squish?” Jack says with a grin, as Samira swats him lightly. 

“We can call them Squish so long as we agree that we’re finding out the gender at my next appointment.” “Deal. Now, breakfast. What are you thinking?” “What am I thinking or what am I knowing I can handle this morning?” “Either.” “Well, I’ve been able to handle yogurt this week.” She muses aloud, watching as Jack sits up, swinging his legs over the side of the bed, grabbing the crutches.

“Yogurt with that berry mix and chia seeds?” “Yes please.” “Coming right up, you get ready, I’ll make breakfast.” He says, making his way out of the room, and down the hall, the gentle thump of the crutches breaking the morning quiet.

She meets him in the kitchen, just as he sets the bowls down. They eat, and after dishes are done, and he’s ready for the day, they make their way to the cemetery. They make their way to her headstone, hands intwined, flowers resting in Jacks free hand. Samira steps back a little, giving him space. It’s never easy for him, but he knows that she’s there whenever he needs.

Jack places the flowers in front of the marble stone, straitening again, hands making their way to his pockets. “Hey Annie. It’s been a while, I’m sorry sweetheart, I didn’t mean to miss last month, but it’s been chaotic down here.” He says, wiping away a stray tear, looking back at Samira, motioning for her to come over. She makes her way to him, as he pulls her to his side.

“Hi Annie. Sorry about last month, Jack wasn’t kidding when he said it was chaotic.” She says voice barely above a whisper. Jack presses a kiss to the crown of her head, a gentle squeeze on her hip as a confirmation that she can say what she needs.

She starts speaking again, voice still quiet, reverent in a way.  “We have some news, wanted you to be the first to know.” A hand comes to her belly, grounding her, as she takes a breath. “We’re having a baby. In March. Jack figured it out before I did, and he’s holding that over my head. We’re excited, scared, and sad you can’t be here to witness it, but we know you’re watching over us. And Squish.” She breaks off, as Jack squeezes her shoulder. 

“I’m not holding that over her head. Not yet anyways.” Jack says with a tight laugh, before continuing. “Annie sweetheart, it finally happened. I got my dream. It may not have worked out how I initially planned, but I’ve got my dream. Thank you sweetheart. I know you had a hand in all of this. We’ll make sure to tell them all about you so they know your story too. You’re just as important to us, I need you to know that.” Tears are freely streaming, both joyous and bittersweet at the same time.

Years down the road, two boys later, and many a mention of Annie, it’s finally asked of their eldest own free will before proposing to his girlfriend that he hear a story. “Hey Dad?” “Yeah?” “What was Annie like when you were getting ready to propose?” Jack’s heart jumps to his throat, as he looks at his oldest, a look of nervousness on his features, picking at the sides of his thumb, much like his mother.

He motions for his son to sit next to him. He feels his son grab his hand, their skin contrasting as he plays with his fathers fingers. Jack watches the tan hand in his paler freckled one, going back in time when it was a chubby little thing, and sniffs. Grayson looks at him in ernest, as Jack pulls him into a hug. “Talk to me first Squish.” “I’m scared Dad.” Graysons says, sniffling a little bit.

“It’s okay to be scared. I was both times.” “You were?” “Terrified out of my bones.” He says, as Grayson sits up again, going back to playing with Jack’s hand. “What was she like? Did she have any idea?” He asks again, as Jack laughs. “Oh buddy, she knew well before I even bought the ring.” “Really?” “Really. She took it in stride, a lot like Cami has with you.” Grayson stares at his father, waiting for him to continue.

Samira hears their voices down the hall, as Jack tells Grayson about Annie, about their life together, and she smiles, feeling the sun on her back as she tidies up the bedroom, knowing that Annie was always going to be a part of their story no matter what.

How Bout Coffee?

Day 6 of Mohabbot Week!! AU timeeeeee! @mohabbotweek2026

Please know I was originally going to do a classic coffee shop AU, but as I have zero experience aside from drinking the stuff, the curse of a dating app came to mind instead. Also do not recommend having a coffee that had six shots of espresso in it. That is not for the weak.

Samira groans as another notification comes through. Jack Abbot liked you! Start the conversation now!  The app was taunting her at this point. So many matches, and yet, every single time she got ghosted. Even if she wasn’t the one to start the message. 

“Princess, remind me why I let you set up a dating app for me?” She asks the nurse, running a hand over her face. “Because you need to go out and have fun. Get laid.” She deadpans, as Samira hands over the phone for her to see the latest match.

“Ooh, he’s cute! I’m starting the conversation.” “Princess! No, don’t he’s just gonna ghost me!” “Oh ye of little faith. Trust me, this man will not ghost you.” “How do you know?” “Now that’s insider information. Don’t you have charts to do?” She asks with a sly grin, as Samira sits down to chart. 

Princess knows exactly who matched with the newest intern. But given that this is the end of her first week, Samira hasn’t met or heard of Jack Abbot yet, as he does tend to brood in the shadows, sometimes scaring the new residents.

Samira is in the middle of a chart when Princess hands her phone back. “You’re going on a date with this guy. Tomorrow morning, 10 AM. De Fer at The Strip.” “I’m what?” “Going to get coffee, with a guy, tomorrow morning.” Princess says, patting her shoulder, as she goes to check on a patient. Samira stares at her phone in disbelief, as a message appears. See you tomorrow. Have a good rest of the day. What had she gotten herself into…

Jack had heard mention of a Samira this week in passing from Adamson and Robby, but didn’t think anything of it, didn’t connect the dots that the person he was meeting for this coffee date was the same one that both Drs. had high hopes for. He had heard Adamson sing praises about her, saying that she was the future of medicine. Robby had his doubts, saying she was slow, and was quickly reminded that she was an intern, thrown into the ED with little warning and to cool it. 

While he trusted and liked both men, Adamson was hard to impress as an intern, the fact that he had taken a liking to this girl so quick? Well, Jack trusted that more than anything else in his life right now, aside from his bottle of Trazodone and maybe Sharon, his therapist. 

“Are you Jack?” A voices asks, shaking him from his thoughts. The voice comes from a young woman, a dimple in her cheek smiling at him. “I am. Are you Samira?” “The one and only.” She says with a laugh, as they go inside. They order and find a table, Jack automatically sitting to face the doors of the building. 

“Military? Police?” “Huh?” “You picked the seat facing the doors, that means you’re on alert. Members of the military, and law enforcement do it all the time.” “Oh, yeah. Army vet.” He leaves it at that, and notices she doesn’t press, just nods thoughtfully. They talk about the week, leaving out some stories, not knowing if the other would be prepared to hear about an ED at the most notable trauma center in the city.

“Wait, where did you say you work again?” Jack asks, the gears beginning to turn. “Um, the Emergency Department of the PTMC.” “Holy shit.” “Wait. Are you there too?” She asks, stiffening, her jaw clenching enough that he notices. “I’m the night shift attending.” “Oh shit.” He barks out a laugh, watching her and feeling himself turn pink.

“Oh no. this is not good. I could lose my residency.” Samira panics, eyes widening, facing him. “You could lose your job! I’m going to have a talk with Princess…” She says, as he laughs again. 

“Wait, did Princess plan this?” “Yes! Why are you laughing? This isn’t good!” She exclaims, staring at the man across from her incredulously. 

“I’m sorry for laughing. It’s just that I’ve heard about you a lot this week and I have to say, you’ve impressed Adamson, so good job.” “I what? Really?” She asks, starting to calm down, as Jack nods. 

“Yeah. Not a lot can do that. Said you’re the future of medicine. If he says that, believe it. Take that win.” He replies, as she fiddles with a hangnail on her index finger.

“Did he mean it?” “100% he meant it. He doesn’t give compliments like that to interns regularly.” She visibly relaxes at his statement, a smile forming again.

 “Now, what do you say about getting back at Princess?” “How so?” “I’ve got an idea.” He says, as he reaches for his phone, texting someone. “Jack… what did you do?” “Let’s just say it’s a well known secret that Princess has a thing for one of my night shift docs.” “Did you just set them up?” Jack doesn’t say anything, just gives a wry grin, pocketing his phone. 

Samira feels her phone vibrate, and sees a text from Princess, and smiles, showing her phone to Jack. Tell Jack I hate him. But not really, he’s too nice to me. Jack laughs, bright and full, and Samira thinks she could get used to it.

As they walk out, Jack pulls Samira back from walking to her car. “What are you doing?” “I want to meet again, we can keep this on the downlow, private. Can I have your number?” He asks, feeling shy. He hasn’t felt like this in a while, but he doesn’t mind. “Yeah. I’d like that.” Samira replies, as he hands her his phone. She puts in her number, fingers brushing as he takes it back.

“I’ll see you around. Yeah?” “Yeah. See you around.” Samira says with a smile, as they head to their respective vehicles. It’s when she’s home, comfortable in sweats and an old sweatshirt that she gets a text from an unknown number. How bout coffee again? She smiles, immediately responding.  I’d love that. Give a time and place and I’ll be there! :)

If These Walls Could Speak

Day 5 of Mohabbot Week 2026! @mohabbotweek2026

Why not give these two teenage boys? What could happen? Figured this little corner needed some fluff and laughs after the news today. Happy reading my friends!

If the walls of the Abbot-Mohan home could speak, they would tell the stories of laughter, tears, arguments, missed alarms, sickness, happiness, and more. They would tell the story of one person finding love again, one person finding love for the first time. They would tell the story of the rough sleepless nights, lazy mornings, many a weekend project. Currently they’re telling the story of a family of four trying to explain the rules of a card game.

“Wait wait wait. I thought we dealt 10 cards?” “No dingbat, if we’re playing by official rules for more than two people we deal seven”

“Hey, no name calling. Apologize.” “Sorry Dad.” “Not to me, your brother.” “Sorry Miles.” “Thanks, now can we go over this again?” Miles asks, staring at his older brother with an intensity to rival their dads. 

“10 cards are only dealt if two people are playing. Seven card are dealt if three or four people play. If mom and dad play we’ll deal seven, and given mom’s weird obsession with rummy, and dad liking to gang up on us during said game of rummy, we’re dealing seven cards each.”

“Well when you put it that way Grayson, it actually makes sense!” Grayson rolls his eyes at his brother, as his mother joins them at the worn kitchen table. 

“Just deal the cards Gray, we can deal with rules later.” “Are you gonna side with mom and gang up on us and then rig the game to win?” “You’ll see.” Jack says, grinning at his oldest, feeling Samira rest her head on his shoulder. 

“Play nice honey.” “Love of my life, these are my sons, I’ll play nice when they develop a frontal lobe.” Jack says, pressing a kiss to her lips.

“You guys are gross. I’m running away to Shen’s.” “Pack a toothbrush. He doesn’t keep spares around for guests.” Jack quips as Miles rolls his eyes, picking up the cards in front of him.

“Can we play the game now, or are we getting lovey-dovey for the billionth time?” “My dear oldest child, I don’t think you have room to speak, considering a certain night surgeon saw you kissing her daughter on the front step.” Samira speaks up, watching the color drain from Grayson’s face.

“Mom!” “Yes?” “She knows? She knows I kissed Cami?” Grayson squawks out, eyeing his mom, who laughs. “Yes, you were in front of the doorbell camera. She says next time to stay in the truck.” 

Grayson puts his head in his hands, his auburn curls a wild mess. Jack pats him on the back, as Miles erupts into a laughing fit next to him.

“It’s alright Gray. Walsh is fine with it all. Say’s it’s cute.” “Not helping Dad.” Grayson says in a muffled voice, hands covering his mouth.

They start the game, everyone trying to gain composure again, and in the end Jack wins. Both of his boys claiming he cheated. “Why would I cheat at a card game?” He aks in mock surprise. “This one is hard to cheat at.” “Well Dad, I don’t know but you did!” the boys say in unison.  “Yeah yeah whatever you say kids.” he says, waving them off, as they bound up the stairs, and he makes his way to the living room.

He sinks into the couch, placing his crutches on the side, as Samira joins, tucking into his side. His arm comes to wrap around her, pulling her closer, thumb rubbing lazy circles on her shoulder. 

“So Grayson and Cami huh?” “Guess so. At least Miles is a few years away from dating.” “Mira, honey, have you not seen the way he looks at Bailey?” “Don’t remind me please. Ellis already does because apparently Bailey talks about Miles all the time.” “Joys of being 14.” Jack says, as Samira sighs. 

“Grayson is graduating next year. How on earth are old enough to have two teenagers?” She asks, as he shifts beneath her. “I don’t know about you baby, but I’d say you’re still young.” “I found gray in my hair the other day.” He gives her a look, one eyebrow raised, lips quirked up. 

“Samira, do you really want to play that game?” “Uh, no.” “Smart thinking.” He says, kissing her temple, as they sit in comfortable silence. It isn’t long before a thud is heard, and a shout makes it way down to them.

“Hey! No wrestling upstairs! If you want to roughhouse go in the basement! Don’t make me come upstairs!” Samira shouts, sitting up, ready to make her way to a bedroom to end the roughhousing.

“Sorry Mom!” 

She leans back into Jack, feeling his laugh vibrate through him. “I knew they were being too quite.” He says with a smirk, his fingers playing with a strand of her hair, watches as her eyes grow heavy, gently closing. He feels her hand rest on his chest, much like the early days of their relationship, her hand resting over his heart, his playing with her hair, sitting in a comfortable silence as the world turned.

If the walls of the Abbot-Mohan home could speak, they would tell the story of Jack Abbot and Samira Mohan finding love in each other, leaning on each other in the dark times and the light. They would tell the story of their two rambunctious sons, from infancy and everything in between. They would tell the story of how two unlikely people created something from just a life altering event, a broken pipe, and a birdhouse. They would tell a love story meant to last.

Finally Mine

Day 4 of Mohabbot Week 2026! Secret Relationship is one of my favs to read, so I figured why not try it out! @mohabbotweek2026

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------      The door of her tiny apartment opens, hinges squeaking in protest. “You do know I can fix that right?” Jack asks, as he walks in, finding the living room empty. “Samira?” “Bedroom!” She says in response as he makes his way down the small hallway. “Hey you.” “Hey.” She says in greeting, Jack perching on the edge of her bed. 

     He watches as she closes the drawer in her dresser, clad in shorts and an oversized shirt. She can feel him staring, but doesn’t mind. Between PittFest and him coming over to fix a pipe a month ago, things had started to change. It was a welcome change in her eyes, having someone to be with, to come home to, to do things with.

She meets him where he’s sitting, her body fitting between his thighs, hands resting on his neck. “Still want to work on the birdhouse?” She asks, as his hands rest on her hips, pulling her close. She laughs as he nuzzles her neck, pressing a kiss to a pulse point. “I’ll take that as a yes.” “Good idea baby.” Jack says, his mouth still on her neck, feeling the way her hands play with his curls.

“Jack” “Hmm?” “If we want to work on the birdhouse, we need to go. I know you don’t have the paint I need. Jack!” She shrieks, as his hands come to pinch lightly at her sides. “We have time.” He says, looking up at her, a grin on his face. She can’t help but smile back, pressing a kiss to his lips. He returns the kiss, his lips softly brushing against her cheek in the process. He looks at her again, watching as she shies away under his gaze.

“We can get paint, I promise, but please for the love of God, let me fix the hinges on your front door.” “Do you have the stuff do to that?” “Yes.” “Alright, fine. I’ll let you fix the hinges on my door.” “Thank you, now we can go.” Samira huffs a little, but smiles at the same time. They make their way out of her apartment, and out to his car. As they start the drive, he rests his hand in hers on the console, the silence comfortable.

As he pulls into a parking spot, he notices a familiar car near them, but ignores it. It’s a hardware store on a Saturday, he’s bound to run into someone. “Ready?” He asks, as Samira reaches to unbuckle her seatbelt. She nods, and he goes to open her door. When she steps out, she reaches for his hand, twining their fingers together.

“This okay?” “Of course.” “Good. Now what paint colors are we thinking? Do we want something bold or something softer?” She asks, as they make their way inside. They throw ideas off of each other reaching the wall of paint swatches, the colors overwhelming at first. 

“How bout yellow?” “Yellow?” “Yeah, reminds me of Annie, and you. My ray of sunshine.” “I like it. It’ll brighten up your yard. Now the next question is what shade. Are you thinking a light yellow? Bright? Or like a warmer golden?” Samira asks, thumbing through the paint chips in front of her, Jacks hand resting on her hip. “I like the honey color. I think that fits. Bee that protects the hive and all.” “I like that, any other color you want to do?” “I picked my color, you get to pick the other.” He says, rubbing a thumb across the fabric of her shirt.

“I like this bluish gray. It reminds me of Appa.” She says quietly, feeling a reassuring squeeze from the hand on her hip. “Honey yellow and blue gray it is.” He says as they take the chips to the paint counter, waiting for the cans to be mixed. As they’re walking out, cans in hand, he sees Shen, coffee in one hand, a plant in the other. They nod at each other in passing, Samira none the wiser, as they make their way to the car.

As they’re painting, Jack hears a ding from his phone. “Mira, will you hand me my phone please?” He asks, wiping a hand on his worn jeans, as she passes him his phone, paintbrush dangerously close to the screen. He sees it’s a text from Shen. Your secret is safe with me boss. He nearly swipes it away, but decides to respond, How much did you win? I know about the bet. He watches as three bubbles appear and disappear, and appear once more. Enough that Princess, Perlah, and Walsh are gonna beat my ass into next week. Worth it though. Have fun. Jack laughs, not responding to the message, and pockets his phone.

He feels something swipe his cheek, and looks up to see Samira grinning wildly, curls askew, the yellow paint mostly gone from one side of the brush she’s holding. “Oh it’s on. “ He says with a laugh, grabbing the brush with the other paint, getting her cheek as she squeals with laughter. They both think they could get used to this.

As Jack walks into the ED, he scans the department, as handoffs are done, the day shift packing up to finally head home. He makes his way to the hub, expecting Samira to be there, charting, and hopefully eating before her double, but knowing it was unlikely, as she tended to survive off shitty breakroom coffee and granola bars.

“Dana, you seen Dr. Mohan?” “She’s getting air.” “She’s getting air…” “That’s what I said, Abbot. She’s getting air. Go rescue her from her thoughts please.” Jack nods and makes his way to the roof, and as he opens the access door, he sees her on the right side of the railing. His heart rate slows, knowing that she’s not playing with the edge like he would’ve at some point in the past, or near present. 

He slowly approaches, making it known that he’s there, gait heavier than normal. “Dr. Mohan. Everything alright?” He hears her sniff, like she’d been crying. “Yeah. I’m ok. Why are you up here?” She asks, turning to face him, eyes bloodshot, hair falling from his place in the clip holding it up. “Dana said you were getting air. Only place I could figure you’d be since I didn’t see you in the bay.” He says, as he reaches her, cupping her face in a hand.

She leans into the touch, her eyes closing for a moment. “Of course she did. She tell you to save me from my thoughts?” “Sure did.” He says, leaning down to kiss her cheek. She softens some more, her shoulders relaxing, as she opens her eyes again to look at him, her hand coming up to meet his.

     He doesn’t have to say a word, and she starts speaking. “Dad and daughter came in. All I could think of was when I lost mine… and then a medic came in hurt and I kept thinking of you. I had to hand them over to McKay so I didn’t have a panic attack. Medic went to surgery, dad and daughter were able to go home.” She whispered, as he pulls her to him, his arms wrapping around her, her head resting against his chest.

      “I’m sorry today was rough, hopefully tonight is a little better. I promise I’ll find a new hobby if that’s what you need to keep from worrying anytime a medic comes through the doors. Not sure how I can help with your dad, but I’m always willing to listen.” “You not doing SWAT would help I think. The stuff with Appa, well that’s a therapy issue at the moment.” “Anything for you. You know that. All I ask is that you not scare me by being up here before I come in.” He says, his voice a rumble against her ear. 

     She pulls away, with a soft smile knowing he’d keep his promise. “You get a new hobby and I’ll try not to be up here making you worry. Deal?” “Deal. Now to start, let’s get you back where you thrive the best ok?” “Alright, as long as you let me pick your next hobby.” Samira replies with a slight laugh, as Jack stiffens.

     “And what would that be?” “Woodworking.” “I do that already…” “And? Do it more. Pick up that birdhouse again. I saw it in the garage.” “Mira.” “Jack, I’m serious. Woodwork. You’ve got the stuff and the space. I know the birdhouse was a project you started with Annie. I know picking it back up might be difficult, but I’m here for you.” She says softly, reaching for his hand.

     Their fingers tangle together, as he sighs slightly. “She’d like you. Annie would.” He says softly, as she squeezes his hand. “She’d want you to pick up a passion again.” “I know. This weekend? We work on it together? I’ll finish building it and we can paint it? Put it in the back by the shed?” “Sounds like a perfect weekend.” She says, as he kisses her cheek once more before they go back inside.

     Once they exit the stairwell to the ED, and make their way to the hub, the energy shifts to a slightly less chaotic feeling and something settles.   

     Dana gives them a knowing look, as they realize they’re still holding hands. “Ivory tower know?” “They will.” Jack responds as Samira lets go of his hand. “Good. I pray shift is nice to you. Samira, kiddo please eat something. Mateo said he brought tamales. Made some vegetarian ones for you.” She says, shooing Samira to the break room. 

     “She ok?” “Better than she was. No more rooftops for her as long as I pick up a different hobby.” Dana gives him a laugh. “Gonna woodwork again?” “Yeah. Better that SWAT.” “Good. I’m glad. It’ll be a change of pace. Slower, gives you time to think. She helpin?” “Yeah, we’re working on that birdhouse this weekend.” Jack says, as Dana stops in her tracks. 

“That birdhouse? The one?” “That birdhouse.” “Jack Abbot, are you serious?” “As a heart attack Dana. She suggested it.” “Does she know?” “Yeah she does, I think that’s why she brought it up. Both of them would gang up on me if they could with the current hobby.” He laughs wetly, feeling his throat going tight. 

The urge to run to the roof coming fast and strong. It takes everything in him to not turn around and make his way back up to his space that he could escape to. Except it wasn’t just his space anymore. It was hers. And he promised her. No more roofs, no more life-threatening hobbies. He made that promise to both of them up there. He was going to keep it.

Dana gives him a smile that only she could, and squeezes his shoulder on her way out. “Keep that promise. It’ll be worth it.” she says in parting, as he nods in response, making his way to the break room before the chaos that only nights can bring begins. 

He feels a warmth in his chest that he hasn’t felt in a while, not since Annie. He glances up at the ceiling, believing it was the sky on the rooftop, closing his eyes for a moment, relishing in the silence, the cool metal of his ring keeping him grounded, knowing somewhere deep down she would want him to be happy. Needed him to be happy. He let out a breath and opened the door to see a smiling Samira, talking away with Ellis, and he knew this was the start of a new beginning.

Mohabbot Week: Day 2 “yearning”

The smell of her lavender shampoo as she leaned past him to grab the scalpel. How her arm slightly grazed his, sending chill bumps up his arm on impact. The way her hair fell in her eyes, he desperately wanted to tuck it behind her ear.
