The title read PARENT TRAP: MOHABBOT EDITION.

"Lucy…" Amelia hissed, reading the title. "You can't be serious."

"I am. And I enlisted help," Lucy said with a huff.

some first red flags about the Pitt’s “realism” were all the way back in season 1. Remember when Santos threatened that father who may or may not have been molesting his kid? Remember when Robby REFUSED to report or investigate??

Yeah well there was a lot of (rightful) criticism around that scene. Doctors spoke up and said that you only need a suspicion to report something for CPS to VISIT. This doesn’t go on some kind of record for the parent and it’s weird that Robby would be so hesitant. Especially with a child’s mental and physical health on the line.

Then, knowing the child will be living exclusively with her father now that her mother’s imprisoned, I found the Santos scene odd. Threatening the abuser will most likely lead to him punishing the victim for speaking out. I know the show was trying to show how badass Santos is (and she is) and give insight into her backstory, BUT I’m not really a fan of sexual assault storylines being used to advance the story-arcs of others, or show how gold-hearted they are, when doing so just brings more risk to the actual victim.

AND THEN the worst thing is that they did it again. In season 2. Robby said the same thing, that they wouldn’t report. They could have totally reported.

I remember reading about how concerned ppl were abt this. They said there shouldn’t be misinformation about these types of procedures and they’re right. There shouldn’t be.

Realism, or something being “realistic,” is a narrative tool. Nothing can ever be fully realistic in story telling. The point is to give the impression that it is and that’s where the art lies.

So while child abuse happens and even false allegations happen, I found the way the show handled it to be unrealistic for actual scenarios. It was pretty obviously story driven.

But now, when they say that Samira Mohan leaving is just “realistic” for a hospital is SUCH obvious crap. Sirs you are writing this story. There is intention behind everything. Don’t pretend that this hospital is real and Gloria came down with her clipboard in the writer’s room and said: “You know we need to make some cuts. Let’s start with Samira. Randomly cut all her scenes.”

No one’s forcing anyone’s hand. So I’m just wondering like what happened? Why was she cut? They’re back peddling on all their answers so that’s super promising lol.

even before s2 came out i remember seeing convos between med students/people in residency online where people were like "is anyone else surprised about how cruel robby was in this scene???", referring to the scene where robby asks her if she's considered psychology. like it really was SO nasty of him to express that kind of doubt in her in her THIRD YEAR.... meanwhile ser whitaker is given the confidence of a second year resident at age 12

also i think that samira teaches whitaker something insanely important that robby never would be able to teach, which is that his idea of what a drug-seeking patient "looks like" is completely inaccurate and rooted in racism. the show doesn't outright say it, but whitaker's suspicion of joyce requesting pain meds was rooted in anti-black bias!!! samira is (as far as we're told) the ONLY doctor in the er who is specifically researching this niche of medical racism and prioritizing the care of the people who are most affected by it. but the showrunners were like nah, we'll write off our only doctor who talks about being anti-racist and initiates conversations about racial bias.... which could mean nothing

Saw a gifset of Robby calling Mel one the best residents that have passed through PTMC, and it just makes me so sad and angry. Because it shows that he was still capable of reassurance to the white woman who was distracted the entire day-first by her deposition, and then by her sister. But Samira suffering from a panic attack, that in the moment felt like a heart attack, was proof to Robby that she didn't belong in the ER.

It's definitely not a bad thing that Mel got that reassurance, but what is it that makes her so much more deserving of it than Samira-I mean we know what, but what did the writers think was the reasoning, considering they truly don't think Robby's a racist?

He had multiple instances to tell this talented doctor that she's a good at her job, but the only time we've seen him give her a compliment that wasn't backhanded was in s1, where he's armtwisted into it, and Samira appears visibly taken aback. Even Dana remarks how surprising it is for her to hear him compliment Samira. It makes me wonder how much Samira must regularly feel the bias in his training, and how little she's even come to expect from him.

And even still, she tells him that maybe she doesn't belong in the ER, practically begging for any sort of comfort or reassurance from this mentor of hers who has been nothing short of cruel to her. And he brushes her off, tells her that her patient should have picked a higher place to jump from, and tells her that he's actually the one who's suffering, because he doesn't have a family and a pond. And still, he refuses to give her any actual support-a recommendation letter, a kind word, or even just laying off when she's clearly shutting down emotionally after a horrible case.

And we're never going to get to see him actually face any consequences for his treatment of her. Al-hashimi's criticism of his behaviour was brushed off (not to mention how he treats her in the finale), and doctor Samira Mohan is simply "not working that day" when s3 takes place, after which Gemmill has said that she's almost certainly not returning to the series.

What the actual fuck are we doing here? Yeah woc are treated horribly in the healthcare system, but that's not what it's being framed as in the show. Yes, the futility of the insurance scam in the US affected her, but can we reasonably say that Robby hasn't had any effect on her mental health? Collins in s1 told Robby to his face that he was destroying Samira's confidence in herself, and then we see that come to fruition in s2, and now she's never going to be able to build herself back up (at least onscreen).

As much as the show likes to put forward Robby as this lone ranger, fighting against the machine, he is very much a part of the complex. He's the chief attending and the doctor in charge of the residents in his department. And he drove a South Asian woman out of his ER, with great prejudice.

Robby might be portrayed as this saint of a doctor, who is just going through such a tough time, but to healthcare workers like myself, I recognise him as one of the most difficult parts of my job, that is still just treated as the status quo.

thinking about how robby tried to comfort samira about her career basically falling apart by saying that 'things don't always work out the way you expect them to' and that he wants to have a pond and two kids in college. which is so not fucking related to the problems she's having right now and is all about him and what he wants. her career is in shambles and he starts about a pond. and then she says it's never too late, and he can't even tell her that he agrees with it?? he just shrugs??? she listens to him talk about his own ideals and he can't even truly comfort her and let her know that it will be okay. he just shrugs and smiles. and then she says 'sorry for not pushing my emotions down further' to robby who hasn't repressed a single emotion successfully all shift. who is on the 'repressing my emotions turned out to be a bad thing' arc. like goddamn, can she have one moment of hope and support?
