Open Day: Putting together a presentation for the dean

After our last meeting with Simon, I think it all hit us how much permission we need to get granted and how much people we have to talk to. 

Our next step is to put together a presentation for the dean we which we did in the space of a day. 

We had re write all our ideas and thoughts as to why we want to do what we want to for Open day. I also realised that you don't always get to work directly with the client. You may have to have someone talk and be able to deliver your ideas for you.

China Project: Hand in deadline Friday

Last week i had set a deadline to my group members that the pages should be handed in to me and printed ready fro Tuesday's presentation. I was overall quite happy with the majority of my group members handing in the work on time. 

I was however a little annoyed by a few people who dragged on handing it in. I made sure to remind them a few times during the week when the deadline was. The quicker we all handed it in, the quicker we'd all be able to concentrate on the other aspects of our upcoming presentation.

I am, however, glad that we were able to get all the pages done and printed.

China Project: Continuing the work

During the past couple of weeks, we have been basically meeting and discussing in our facebook group what needs to be done. Everyone is pretty much working on their own books and pages. 

The deadline i have given them is this Friday at 12pm.

Open Day Project Group B: Meeting with Fran and also Simon.

When telling our ideas to Fran, she absolutely loved it and also said that the project is a good PR opportunity. I think by having all these positive feedbacks is making me enjoy the project even more. We have now figured out how to make the murals. By using panels we can combine 2 or 3 of them then place them around the university.

When talking with Simon, he asked us to put together a presentation for the dean. As our actual client is the dean, Simon is going to be the one pitching out ideas and taking them forward. This shows me that you don't always get to talk to the client directly. This is a good opportunity to work on presenting and pitching our ideas however. If we are able to communicate it well to Simon, he'll be able to pass it along to the Dean just as well.

Open Day Project Group B: Meeting with Keith Holmes and Simon Bell:

 After our last meeting with Simon, we were told to contact Keith, which we did. We organised a meeting with him for Friday. We met up with him and showed him our ideas about designing onto the steps which he loved.

This is the outline of what occurred in the meeting and what we have to do.

History: try to make the building more artistic e.g. adding sculptures Funding : £10 million  2-3 years : before getting rid of the steps we may have a new gallery, where the run way is meeting next week with Mark Evans who is running the project

Think about maintenance with art piece: jet wash the moss under the steps?

First ideas by next week  think about temporary art work

Issue: City Council - Need to contact the council about whether we can amend the steps (done today), this leads to planning permission, consider plans in the future

Semi-Permanent is better as it is easier to remove.

FIND OUT: how long road paint lasts even being washed (make sure the paint works)

Environmental issues- planning- council by Tuesday: find out when we are meeting

Internal: Think about spreading the design throughout the building not just external

China Project: Follow up

This week we met up again along with themes and ideas for each piece of work. We came up with the idea of the packaging of the box. We also designed some front covers for the book.

This meeting was very successful as we were able to discuss what kind of theme we wanted. Now it's just about working on what we nee to do.

Today we had out meeting with Simon, who is our client, and we passed on our ideas to him. We made a short presentation of what we are thinking of doing.

I think that the meeting was a success as we were able to convey our thoughts and ideas well to Simon. However, he has told us to contact Keith Holmes to discuss whether or not we would be able to work on the stairs outside our building. 

This is our next target.

Open Day Group B project: First idea discussions 

Today we sat down as a group and came up with our first initial ideas. We came up with lots of things like designing a merchandise and trying to do things with the building to make it look welcoming but also very creative. 

We are going to be having a meeting with Simon on Tuesday to give him our first ideas and also get some feedback.

Open Day Group B project

In our first meeting we discussed the brief that has been given to us

Brief: Design an Experience To boost student experience, so like when they come for an interview or open day when they say 'I want to go here' they normal don't attend this university. The problem is Conversion, instead of having the usual stuff such as posters, talks and catalogues, we create something new and creative which makes the student who visits to be like 'I want to be able to do that'.

For us as a group we are expected to use our multimedia skills   so for example we can project animations in the waiting room, or create a video etc.

The outcome is expected to be creative, vibrant, have diversity, up to date e.g. software examples, what involvement our course has such as competitions as other uni's don't actually do any.

The point is to be able to inspire the students, think about audio and visuals. 

Think about the experience, and environmental designs such as the eco graffiti...

Follow Up China Project Meeting

We have decided to keep the idea of the 4 books but also include other travel essentials in like a box. We've separated ourselves into smaller groups

These are the groups:

Food book group is Mila and Aman Language and culture book is Nabaa and Josie Shopping book is Natalie, Alexandra and Gemma Travelling book is Kamelia and Vanina

Aaron and Tom will be working on the website/blog version.

Ben and I will be working on the timeline and the other little extras that the survival guide box will have.

Everyone will work on the Map together as we can combine what we did into one thing.

First China Project Discussion

In our first discussion on facebook, we decided to that creating a sort of survival guide for the students part of the exchange trip is a good idea. Like having four small books that cover different topics.

The four topics could be  - food - language - shopping - travelling

The book would also include our own experiences and thoughts and it could include like a map of where they could go.

These are our first initial ideas.

Final adjustments

During the last meeting, Jas, our client, asked for there to be made a few changes. He was happy with the overall design but he just wanted us to make a few changes which we did. These were the results.

2 week trip to China

From 29/03/14 until 12/04/14 I was on an exchange trip to China so I didn't do any project related work.

First ideas.

After the first meeting with our client, Jas, we have started to design different logos and also layouts that we could hopefully present in the next meeting which is to be held on the 1st of April. After meeting with Fran and showing her all our different ideas, we were able to pick out the best pieces of work and improve on that. 

At the next meeting, which only Mo will be attending, we can hopefully show our different ideas and let Jas give us feedback that we can use to make our work better.

We had our first meeting with out client. He is a police officer that wanted certificates and also logos made for the workshop W.R.A.P (Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent) 

This is what he gave us.

This was the basic outline about what the workshop was about.

During this first meeting we discussed ideas and thoughts to take into account.
