the house felt unusually quiet as yn slipped her phone into the pocket of her hoodie. she stood in front of the door for a few seconds , staring at the handle without moving. part of her wanted to turn around , lock herself in her room , and pretend nobody was waiting outside.
but she couldn’t avoid him forever.
taking one slow breath , she unlocked the front door.
heeseung stood on the porch exactly where he’d said he’d be. his hand were shoved into the pockets of his hoodie, and the second he saw her , he straightened up.
the silence stretched for what felt like forever before yn stepped aside just enough for him to come inside.
she closed the door behind him and leaned against it , folding her arms.
“I know saying sorry isn’t enough , and i know i don’t deserve your forgiveness. i’m not here because i expect everything to magically go back to normal.”
he rubbed the back of his neck before continuing.
“I’m here because…you deserve an explanation.”
“I never met up with yujin because i wanted her back.”
“I met up with her because i thought one final conversation would finally get her out of my life.”
“And kissing her was my fault.”
“There isn’t an excuse for what i did.”
yn stared at him for a long time.
“I actually believe you.”
he looks up in confusion.
“I believe that your didn’t mean to hurt me.”
she takes a slow step forward.
“But planning to hurt someone and hurting them anyway doesn’t change the outcome.”
“You keep telling me you didn’t mean to do it.”
her voice cracks ever so slightly.
“But intentions don’t erase consequences.”
her eyes swell up with tears as she continues.
“yujin texted me and told me i was nothing but a distraction.”
“I told her she didn’t know what she was talking about.”
“I defended you to my friends.”
“I defended you to myself.”
She takes a shaky breath.
“I watched you prove her right.”
his reply came almost instantly.
“But how was i supposed to know that?”
her voice rose at him for the first time.
“I saw you kiss her with my own two eyes , heeseung.”
“You weren’t the only one who made a mistake.”
the words hit him harder than anything else she’d said.
“They all told me to be careful.”
“And i ignored every single one of them because i believed you could change.”
she lets out a bitter laugh.
“I sat there convincing everyone that she’d made the whole thing up.”
“And then i had to stand there and watch everything she told me become true.”
“I never wanted you to feel that way.”
she looked directly at him.
“But wanting and doing are two different things.”
another silence settled between them.
“I would’ve done anything for you.”
“And all i asked was for you to respect me enough to think before you acted.”
she shook her head again.
“You’re only saying that because you’re dealing with the consequences now.”
“If i never walked out onto that balcony…”
“would you have ever told me?”
that was all the answer she needed.
a tear rolls down her cheek before she quickly wipes it away.
“But i don’t know if i can trust you anymore.”
“I don’t expect you to forgive me.”
he struggles to find the words.
“I wish i could take it back.”
“Is there anything i can do?”
yn stays quiet for several seconds.
“And if you really care about me.”
she walked over and opened the front door.
“..then stop trying to fix this overnight.”
she gave him one small nod.
“I’ll talk to you when i’m ready.”
for the first time since everything fell apart , heeseung didn’t ask her to stay.
he quietly walked out the front door.
yn watched him leave before gently closing it behind him.
the lock clicked into place.
she leaned back against the door , letting out a shaky breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding.
the second she knew he was gone , the tears she’d spent the entire conversation holding back finally spilled over.
she slid down the door until she was sitting on the floor , covering her face with both hands.
it hurt so much more than she’d ever expected it to.
she wanted things to go back to the way they were.
she wanted to answer his texts without thinking.
she wanted to laugh with him again.
but every time she closed her eyes…
all she could see was that balcony.
heeseung stood there for a long moment , staring at the closed front door.
the porch suddenly felt colder than it had a few minutes ago.
his chest felt painfully tight , every word she’d said replaying over and over in his mind.
“I watched you prove her right.”
“If i never walked out onto that balcony. would you have ever told me?”
he squeezed his eyes shut.
he couldn’t answer that question.
not because he didn’t want to.
because he genuinely didn’t know.
that made everything even worse.
for the first time , he stopped thinking about how guilty he felt.
instead , all he could picture was yn standing there , looking at him like she’d lost someone she never thought she’d have to lose.
he had spent the past week wishing she would answer his texts.
now he understood why she hadn’t.
she wasn’t trying to punish him.
she was trying to protect herself.
“I really ruined everything.”
the words came out as barely more than a whisper.
he looked back at the front door one last time before forcing himself to turn around.
for the first time in a long time…
walking away hurt more than being left behind.
