me, not brain dead: this finale beautifully showed how much Tobias loves his daughter and how far he’s willing to go. it also showed us that Gibbs is still struggling with the burning of rule 10, which obviously made him question himself, his methods, and the validity of his other rules. and because of the rule burning, he’s coming to terms that he’s finally letting people past the walls that he’s carefully built up for 20+ years, and he doesn’t know how to cope with that knowledge

but you know, ziva’s back, so whatever

If I recall, they did used to be the corresponding months.  It was just when Roman leaders Julius Caesar and Augustus came into power, the months July(Julius) and August(Augustus) were added, thus throwing off the numbering of the calender.

43. “YOU DID WHAT?!” With Gibbs please?

Gibbs was standing with the family of the victim, and as you slowly walked towards him, a police officer gently walked them away. Gibbs turned and glanced up, looking to return to his team, but found you standing in front of him instead. “Yeah, Y/N? You find something?” He asked.

The fact that Gibbs seemed to be a fair mood made you feel even worse. You shuffled your feet nervously and barely met your boss’s gaze. “Um…I should tell you now…before you find out for yourself…”

“What is it?” He asked, mild concern coming through. You winced at it.

“Um, well, while I was taking pictures of the crime scene, I might have accidentally, not on purpose, unintentionally-”

“Spit it out, Y/N. What’s up?” Gibbs interrupted firmly, his eyes now hardened with a suspicious curiosity.

You took a deep breath and straightened up. If you were about to die, you might as well have some dignity. “I accidentally spilled your coffee.” You blurted out, but looked down to the ground instantly.

It took only a second for Gibbs to yell: “YOU DID WHAT?!”

You jerked up in surprise as you felt a sharp swat to the back of your head, blinking at Gibbs dumbly. “What was that for?” you mumbled, feeling quite out of it as Gibbs tilted his head to look at you.

“For not telling me what’s wrong.” Gibbs answered, staring hard at you but you could see the concern in his eyes as he took a seat next to you, “Which is about to change.”

You frowned slightly, cocking your head to the side in confusion. “What are you talking about-”

Gibbs cut you off. “[f/n]. You have to talk to someone. I’m ready to listen. Tell me what’s wrong.”

“Gibbs, please, just relax-” you urged, gaze pleading with him to just go along with you.

“Hey, it is not your job to take care of me!” Gibbs protested, immediately regretting how harshly the words had come out. He was just stressed and in pain and exhausted and everything was coming out wrong.

What he didn’t expect was for you to meet his challenge with just as much fire, “Well it needs to be someone’s job!”

Gibbs sighed, running a hand through his hair, “Fine.” he conceded, sitting down reluctantly. You would only continue to press him until he caved anyways and he knew this was more for your benefit than his. Your soft smile was enough to tell him he had made the right decision.

Your hands were the first part of you to start shaking as the reality of what had just happened settled in. You had nearly died. The thought terrified you and, before you realized it, tears were dripping down your cheeks.

Immediately noticing your distress, Gibbs pulled you close, rocking you back and forth gently. “It’s okay, shh…” he soothed, petting your hair softly and pressing a kiss to your head. “You’re safe. I’ve got you. Everything’s going to be okay.”

You and Jethro really did try to keep it a secret; what with Rule 12 and all. But when Abby suspected something, she will go to the ends of the Earth to find out what it was. Especially if it involved Gibbs. Maybe it was just a scientist thing.

Abby stood in front of Gibbs, her eyes narrowed and arms crossed over her chest. Gibbs stared back down at Abby, and for once, he couldn’t really meet her gaze as she questioned him about you. This is the only indicator Abby needed. Over the years, the scientist had learned the little indicators that Gibbs gave off.

“I knew it! I knew it!” Abby called, jumping up and down. Gibbs repeatedly tried to quiet her down, looking side to side as people began to stare.

It was at that moment that the elevator opened, and you came walking through. Abby bolted past Gibbs, a grin planted on her face. You stopped in your tracks, steadying yourself as Abby ran up to you and tackled you in a hug. “I wanna be a bride’s maid!” She demanded.

You peeked over Abby’s shoulder to Jethro, who was smiling and shrugging his shoulders.

Waltzing happily out of the elevator and towards your desk, you noticed Tony looking up at you with this weird look on his face. You frowned at him, then noticed Ziva was hunched over her desk, typing, and McGee was awkwardly standing at Gibbs’ desk. It took you only a moment to realize what was going on, and you smirked.

You padded into the squadroom, and Gibbs finally realized you arrived. “What took you so damn long to get here?!” He snapped, glaring up at you with those icy eyes that usually makes everybody obedient. But you were pretty much Gibbs’ favourite, and he never yelled at you, much less smacked your head. His glare never really frightened you, unless he was super pissed off.

“Getting you these.” You announced with a smile, gently shouldering McGee out of the way to stand where he stood. You placed a cup of coffee in front of your boss, followed by a folded up napkin. The Marine frowned at the napkin, looked up to you with a frown, then unfolded it. A few cookies laid in the napkin, still a little warm.

The entire team slyly watched for Gibbs’ reaction. But despite their own previous attempts to butter him up, their boss gave a tiny little smirk. Gibbs looked back up to you, folded the napkin back up, and shoved it into his pocket. “McGee, DiNozzo, get your gear. We’re going to the witness’s house.” He announced, standing and grabbing the coffee you brought him. You smiled to him as he walked past, and he merely gave a nod.

“How does she do that?” Tony grumbled under his breath as he grabbed his gun and badge.

McGee exhaled and shrugged, but he was grateful nonetheless that you were able to smooth over the boss’s temper.

After a tiring day and a big dinner, it was inevitable that you fell asleep whilst watching a movie with Jethro. How he was able to stay awake, you weren’t totally sure. The old Marine never ceased to amaze you.

When you woke up, you barely registered the credits rolling. The only thing you were paying attention to was the warmth coming off of Jethro. Your head on his shoulder, both arms hugging one of his like a child with a stuffed animal.

“Y/N,” Jethro said lowly, “don’t you think you should go to bed?”

You shook your head, only half-awake, and cuddled even closer to him. “Wanna stay.” You sighed out, nuzzling your face to rest on his chest.

Jethro let out a deep chuckle. He was just as tired as you, though he was better at hiding it. Going to sleep sounded very good right about now, but Gibbs’ll just have to change his plans.

He allowed your intrusive behavior, and didn’t deny that your warmth and deep breathing was comforting to him. Jethro got more and more drowsy, until ultimately, he rest asleep, as well; his head resting against yours.

You never knew how hard it was to type when you had to hold an ice pack to your black eye. Tony kept grinning over to you, asking if you needed help typing. You ignored him, though, you really wanted someone to type for you. Your eye was throbbing at this point, and the ice wasn’t doing too much.

McGee flew into the squadroom, going straight to his desk. “I think I know where Captain Archer is. I back-tracked his phone, and-” That’s when Tim looked up, and he stopped in the middle of his sentence. “What happened to you?” He inquired, concern evident in the question as he straightened up.

Tony grinned at you, waiting for you to answer. You shrugged and looked down to your keyboard. “I…got in a fight.” You answered lowly, to which Tony snorted at.

McGee didn’t believe you, so he walked up to your desk with furrowed eyebrows. “So how exactly did you get these bruises?” He repeated, eyeing the multiple black patches around your eye.

When you didn’t answer, Tony took it upon himself to answer for you. “She ran straight into a pole.” The special agent announced. “Clumsy little Y/N.”

It was after a hard case when it happened. Everyone else was eager to go home. Tony was even too tired to make cracks at McGee, and that slightly worried you. Gibbs, as always, didn’t really show his weariness, but you could tell by now that he was. Fluid movements and half-lidded eyes. Also, because that was his 6th cup of coffee.

Both you and the boss both had some work to finish before going home. You were surprised when Gibbs asked you if you wanted to finish in this little coffee shop he knew of. You said yes without even thinking.

But neither of you got a lot of work done at the diner. A comment about how good the coffee was turned into a full conversation that lasted all night. You even maybe Gibbs laugh a few times; you wished he smiled more. It suited him better.

The one thing you wish you could change about Jethro was his stubbornness. At first, you found his aloof and mysterious nature kind of sexy, but since entering a relationship with him, you found yourself constantly working to try to get past the barriers Jethro had put up.

He wouldn’t even look at you, which only pissed you off more. “Jethro, just tell me. I know something is wrong, and I want to help…”

“It’s nothing you need to worry about.” He muttered, glancing at you for just a moment before going to walk away. But you moved to block his path, forcing him to look you in the eye.

“Why won’t you tell me anything?! I’m just going to worry more if you keep things from me.” You argued, daring to step closer and into his personal space.

Jethro kept his eyes on yours, and you can tell he was getting a little worked up from your tone. But by now, you were a little too mad to let his glare shut you up. “What good is dating if you can’t even be honest with me? I tell you everything! Do you not want this relationship or-”

“That’s not it.” Jethro interrupted harshly. “Every time I let someone in, something happens! And I don’t want anything to happen to you, because I don’t think I would be able to take it!” Now angry, he exhaled sharply and took a step backwards, his eyes hot. “I can’t lose you too!”

This silence both of you. Jethro realized what he said and turned around, hoping to salvage himself from spilling his weakness so easily. You were careful to approach him. “You’re not going to lose me.” You stated. “I promise.”
