Didn't Paul once say that he would like to hear John singing Maybe I'm Amazed?
Q: If he were here today which McCartney song would you like him to sing and why?
Paul: I've never thought about it. Maybe I'm Amazed comes into my mind. It would be interesting to hear him sing that. Just because it would. That will do.
Hello! It’s been a long time since I asked something. 🙋
Well, in May Pang’s documentary, it’s mentioned that when John and Paul reunited, they just started talking as if nothing had happened; don’t you feel like they must have spoken before to be able to talk with such normality? Or maybe they had already “seen” each other too. Also, why do you think that when Paul met May, he didn’t see her as a threat, even though it was clear that John loved her a lot too, and it seemed like Paul just “didn’t care”?
Yeah, they definitely had contact before that 1974 reunion. People forget that there were at least two documented meetings prior to the jam session. In 1972, Paul and Linda visited John and Yoko in New York. They had dinner, talked things out, and agreed to stop attacking each other in public. That meeting alone shows the emotional temperature had already softened. Then, in March 2, 1974, John and Paul were seen together again, this time in L.A.— backstage at the 1974 Grammy Awards, laughing and chatting. And as has been mentioned before, Diana Ross apparently mentioned seeing them together at a gay bar in L.A. It’s one of those stories that floats in the margins, never officially confirmed, but not exactly far-fetched either. So by the time of the jam session a bit later in 1974, what we’re seeing isn’t two estranged ex-colleagues finally reuniting — it’s two people who had already started to circle back to each other. The jam was just the first public glimpse of something that had been quietly mending in private. May wasn't aware of this, so she was surprised at how casually they were talking to each other.
I don't really think Paul saw May as a threat. May was gentle, stabilizing, and encouraged John to reconnect with Paul — not pull him away. She didn’t symbolize “replacement” the way Yoko had. And there’s also this: by then, Paul had Linda. He was settled and grounded. At that time, the John-Paul dynamic had evolved from something volatile and obsessive into something tender but quieter. When he saw May, he probably recognized that John was being cared for by someone kind, which was good. The easy rapport he and John had in this period hints that they had already reconnected before, as I explained earlier. Paul didn’t feel threatened by May because she represented peace, not rivalry.
What's a crackpot theory about mclennon that you have?
Okay, here it is: I think John and Paul may have recorded themselves being intimate in India (not really something crazy to think about, as we do know they were seen swimming together naked there). In Get Back, when Paul is talking about the India footage, he says that there's a scene where John looked like a philosophy student with his tape recorder. John immediately adds, ‘Yeah, I’ve got all the soundtracks too,’ without elaborating, and then they both share this knowing, mischievous smile. I think this may tie in with the rehersal tape Yoko found (which by now I'm pretty sure it may have happened in 1968 in the studio) of John moaning Paul's name over and over. My theory is that John probably had all kinds of reels mixed together — demos, rehearsals, experimental stuff — and maybe one of those personal recordings, of him and Paul being intimate, slipped into the batch. Yoko stumbled onto it, and it became this awkwardly revealing discovery (even though she believed it was just John because he was the only one saying something) . To me, it even ties into that bizarre moment in ’69 when John played a tape of him and Yoko having sex for people in the studio — almost like he was reenacting or one-upping what had been overheard before, and maybe throwing it in Paul’s face. I know it sounds like a stretch, of course, but I have always thought their smiles in Get Back after talking about having "some soundtracks" and a "tape recorder" must mean something, as well as John saying "yes, what were we doing?" And "in your room" to Paul a bit earlier in a suggestive tone, and of course, John blowing the mic while staring directly at Paul.
you ever just get like so overwhelmed by how john and paul are actually quite possibly the greatest, most tragic love story of all time? and kind of no one knows?? like the tragedy of it is so immense, there's an actual living human being who has been carrying around the grief of his lost love for 45 years! bearing his heart on stage! refusing to get over it! and yet!!!! most people just laugh when you tell them that is love?? hello we have one half of an epic star-crossed love still in our midst can we please come to our senses and not force the queer historians of the future do all the work damn!
McLennon fic will be updated. I swear I am not abandoning it.
But unfortunately I decided to take three AP classes this year and am so busy with schoolwork. New chapter within a week or so, KEEP READING NOW AND THEN!!! <333
Wasn't there an interview where John's sister Julia said that John and Paul were closer than people think?
Yes, IIRC, someone from LiveJournal met Julia and asked her if John and Paul were really as close as the media made them out to be:
"Julia giggled and said, “oh, no, they were closer!” She then elaborated, ‘“Paul and John would come to her father’s place, go upstairs and lock themselves in for hours and hours, listening to records and thumping about up there.” She said they were closer than any two people she’s ever met, and that they used to be able to “look at each other, stare at each other, and convey a whole conversation beyond all of us.”
I just read the latest chapter on my way to class and lorddd it was sooo good 😭 when Paul proposed recording it I actually had to put my phone down for a sec. I’m so excited for the next chapter !!! <3
AGHHHHH I'M SO GLAD YOU LOVED IT!!! Needless to say, the boys are certainly making each other more bold ;)
Hey so I am currently making a fanart for your now and then fic and in chapter 79 you describe johns outfit as him wearing a silk dark shirt with white polka dots and dark wash jeans i looked everywhere for a picture of him wearing anything similar and i couldn't find any for a ref and i just wondered if you had any pictures for me as a ref, also i just realised writing this if its alright for me to draw scenes from your fic, ohhh also if you have any references for what paul is wearing id love that too, hope this is ok sorry its so long, also I LOVE LOVE LOVE your fic so much xxxxxxxxxx
Hi!!! Sorry for the late reply, but I am absolutely in LOVE with the idea of you making fanart of my fic. That's so exciting and such an honor oml <333333
Second of all, I'm afraid my answer might be a bit underwhelming. I got the inspo for John's outfit from a Pin that I interpreted in a more vintage style (eg, narrower silhouettes of both the pants and shirt, less oversized, etc). For Paul, I mostly used references of him from 1969 when he wore plain white t-shirts, just adding a brown leather belt and matching boots. I've included both photos below, and hopefully this helps with your fanart! Again, I'm beyond flattered that you're creating this and cannot wait to see what you come up with :) <3
Like when Paul said they had never met someone who was gay before Brian Epstein while it’s known that Paul used to attend gay bars in Liverpool when he was a teenager. Why would he lie?
Or how there was always a one single bed in their rooms.
Or how they didn’t usually shared a room, but every time someone was around them, they always said John and Paul were sharing a room and George and Ringo sharing another. Why would they lie?
Paul always saying John is not gay and if he was he would have tried something with him because they were so close he’d know, but Yoko, in little time, noticed something strange in their chemistry and thought something was going on between them. She also openly said John was bissexual, but never found someone good enough to catch his attention even though he actually said to Harry Nilson that he fell for Paul’s looks. How does these things work together? They don’t. Why is Paul lying about not knowing? Is it possible he really didn’t know, even being that close, did he never noticed anything?
in my free time i love going on youtube and zoning out listening to paul mccartney bootlegs bc i'm autistic as fuck and sometimes i even drag @twinkcartney and @twinkharrison into it with me and i keep meaning to keep a list of the most insane ones and never do so here it is
i'm Positive i'm missing some bc that man has more songs than i've had thoughts since i was born but. under the cut are some of his unreleased songs/demos that have made me raise my eyebrows so high
first off, huge credit to Twick Heal on youtube who is like my god. they have a whole playlist of unreleased paul songs which are all off "momac's hidden tracks" (they also compiled into two really long videos if you prefer that!)
second, disclaimer: I'm not saying these are all 100% about john I'm very aware there's confirmation bias. and it also ranges in how convinced I am it's about john/queer in general. a song being on here doesn't mean i'd die on that hill. BUT if you like to have fun and speculate for fun like me, come with me here.
i'm only including unreleased stuff + demos/takes where the lyrics are different from what's officially on his albums. if you go through that gigantic playlist, there Are a ton of takes/recordings of different songs people have dubbed mclennon over the years, and those can be fun to look at too if you want! i'm just not including them in my list

Woke up this morning.
Blues around my head.
Ain't no need to ask the reason why.
Went to the kitchen.
Lit a cigarette.
Blew the smoke rings in the sky.
Just got to let it go.
Just got to let it go.
Mm, it's real life. It's real. It's real life. It's real.
Let go. Let go. Let go.
(scats)
Mm, let go. Mm, let go.
Well, it's real life. It's real. Yes, it's real life. It's real.
Let go. Let go. Like the mighty river flow.
From the ocean to the shore. Let it go. Let go.
Picked up the paper.
Read the Daily News.
Nothing doing anyway.
Same old BS. Doot doot doot doot cruise.
Nah nah nah nah now.
Let go. Let it go. (laughs) No, what am I doing?
Why don't you let it go? Why don't you let it go?
Mm, it's real life. It's real. Yes, it's real life. It's real.
Let go. Let the mighty river flow. Let go. Let go.
Oh, rock your balls, you...
Woke up this morning.
Blues around my head.
No need to ask the reason why.
Went to the kitchen, and I jumped back into bed.
Something nasty in the sky.
No need to be afraid.
No need to be afraid.
It's just real life. Real life. It's just real life. Just real life.
Went up the mountain to see what I could see.
Nothing doing nowhere.
Went to the seaside. Had a cup of tea.
Went to....
Why must we be alone?
Why must we be alone?
It's real love. It's real.
Woke up this morning,
blues around my head.
No need to ask the reason why.
Went to the kitchen, and I ran right to my bed.
There's something funny in the sky.
Why must we be alone?
Why must we be alone?
It's real life. Mm, it's real life.
(whistles)
Was I just dreaming or was it only yesterday?
I used to hold you in my arms.
And now a baby, and another on the way (laughs)
la la la la la farm (laughs)
Why must we be alone?
Wah wah wah wah wah wah wah.
(scats)
If it don't feel right, don't do it.
If it don't look right, look right through it.
If it don't feel right, don't do it.
Just call him on the phone.
Finally found it! For reference to anyone who hasn't seen/heard these demos and the newspaper clippings. Got it wrong about them sitting on a farm wall (must be thinking of a different photo) but otherwise! The whole thing together is quite ... something.
