I had this thought about why it can be so hard to accept compliments - it’s not because you want to be self-deprecating or that you’re trying to be modest or even just low self-esteem - 

It’s just that, sometimes, compliments that you don’t believe genuinely feel like lies, and you feel guilty for letting someone believe a lie, because whatever they’re complimenting you on is just fundamentally untrue. It’s like if someone comes up to you and says the sky is green, you’d be doing a disservice not to correct them and say, “It’s blue, actually.”
