Dupe Alert!

This lovely little thang is an MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer and is here to solve all of your liquid to matte lipstick nightmares. No longer will you have to spend crazy amounts of money on Lime Crime, LA Girl or Gerard Cosmetics products, then more on just the shipping. These beauties do just the same job but for only £3. I have had two of these liquid lipsticks for around a year now in colours Reckless (pictured above) and Tranquility (a nude brown-ish colour). It took me a looong time to get used to them, and I was convinced that it was because they were cheap duplicates and the formula was not nice enough to be applied smoothly. I could not have been more wrong, there is nothing at all wrong with the formula of these lipsticks. Part of the problem was practice and that I didn't have enough of it. The other issue was lip liner (!!) which I had been dependent on to give me the outline of my lips to then fill with the product. This was completely unnecessary and had in fact been holding me back. What I really needed was to live a little and risk going freehand which to my surprise worked a treat. These lipsticks are perfect for creating sharp lines, but can be softened to take away the harshness if necessary, the colours are heavily pigmented and super bright and the product will stay on for hours without transferring or wearing away. Things like heavy drinking will obviously wet the product and cause it to wear off, and as it is a cheaper formula it doesn’t have the water resistance of some higher end lipsticks, but it can always be topped up throughout an evening or even during a whole day. All in all, the MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer gets a huuge thumbs up for me and is highly recommended to anyone looking for a duplicate for a more expensive brand.

Hair Bleaching and Product Review

Story time y'all! So, as I'm sure you could have guessed the first photo is my hair this morning and the second photo is my hair now, after bleaching today. I'll admit that they're not the best of photos but for the purposes of demonstration they do the job (and yes that is a squashed toilet roll, they always come in useful for makeup clean ups). My hair's story starts as being a natural blonde, and begins to darken into a dark blonde/light brown as you can see at my roots in the first photo. Since then it has been semi-permanently dyed blonde, and a pink and purple dip-dye, permanently highlighted blonde in the T-section, and permanently dyed blonde all over (in case you haven't noticed - blonde is my thang). I made a near enough overnight decision that I wanted to go platinum/silver blonde. I'm not quite there yet as I am waiting on the delivery of my toner, but I am able to give you the story so far. I had my mind set on Schwarzkopf dyes as I had used them before and had been happy with the result, however when it came to it I bought two Jerome Russell Bblonde Maximum Blonding Kits. Previously I had never quite achieved the blonde that I was hoping for, and I think it's down to the fact that I had only ever used one pack of dye, and as you can see I have a LOT of hair. The bleach comes as a powder alongside a bottle of cream peroxide. They're easy enough to mix up and apply, although the dye brush that comes in the kit is about the right size for a borrower so I ended up using my hands. Once finished, you wrap your hair up in the plastic cap provided and let the bleach do it’s thing. It's recommended that you test the bleach on a strand of hair first to see how long the bleach needs to be left for, needless to say I did not do this. It is also recommended that you apply the bleach to the whole head, and then 15 minutes later go back and apply it to the roots. Once again, I did not do this...oops. I washed the bleach out after thirty minutes, although the guide says it can be left for up to 90. I would guess this is for people with really dark hair so I would not recommend leaving it for this long on thin, naturally light, or very damaged hair. After the 30 minutes, I rinsed my hair thoroughly and then applied the shampoo that comes with the kit, making sure to really saturate my hair in it to maximise it's efficiency. After rinsing this out I began to feel the dryness in my hair, of course a result of the bleaching. Because I don't yet have a toner to take away the yellow and brassy tones, I used my Provoke Touch of Silver shampoo and as the instructions state, left it in my damp hair for five minutes. Once this was washed out I used the Touch of Silver conditioner liberally. After drying, my hair looks as it does in the second photo but much, much brighter. I find that the photos attached don't show a lot of difference between the before and after, however previously my hair was much more yellow, and the roots were a lot more noticeable. As for the after, the colour is much less varied than the photo may lead you to believe. This product is not advertised to leave you with multi-tonal hair, and it doesn't. Apart from the areas that I missed, my hair is pretty much all one colour so if you're looking for a natural finish, this isn't the kit for you. Another thing distorted by the photo is the brightness of the colour. I could probably have got away with leaving the bleach in for another ten minutes, however as it is the blonde is garishly bright. There is a little more yellow in the colour than I would have liked, however I am hoping that the arrival of a toner will fix this, and I will continue with the use of my Touch of Silver shampoo and conditioner to prevent any brassiness. Overall I am very happy with the outcome. No, I have not got the silver-blonde hair that I hoped for, but I always knew that this could not be achieved with just bleach alone. For around £6 the kit was well worth the money as it did everything I needed to. My only advice would be a) actually do the things that the instructions tell you to do - it's probably for a good reason and b) ask someone to help you get the back, I have a lovely brown patch of hair right at my crown proving that my hair colour is anything but natural.
