Lucy let out a long, audible groan. “Come on Molly!” Lucy was extremely annoyed now, “It’s not gonna hurt…that bad. Besides, I deserve to have something go my way after that stupid Quidditch match!”

Molly raised her eyebrows “Merlin's beard, Lucy, intentionally causing someone pain is something going your way?” she asked in disbelief, shaking her head slightly, “it was a game, Luce, maybe instead of trying to find someone to be your lab rat you could focus on getting better so you’ll win next game,” she said.

“True, a good Butterbeer is worth every single ounce of sugar, it’s just so good.” Isaiah nodded, chuckling slightly as he walked along side of her. He looked over at her, considering for a moment before eventually nodding. “I think I can agree to that.”

Molly nodded in agreement “It is, it's so good I don’t want to know how much sugar is actually in it, I’d much rather be blissfully ignorant,” she chuckled. She nodded, happy that they had come to a compromise “good,” she said with a smile. When they got to the three broomsticks and sat at a tabled she ordered a butterbeer for herself and Isaiah “So how was your summer?” she asked.

“That’s absolutely another reason to go now, cease the day and have more Butterbeer than could ever be healthy.” Isaiah chuckled, nodding slightly. “However, prepare right now I will fight you for the check.” He winked laughing.

Molly grinned and nodded “The only drink worth the amount of sugar that must be in it,” she chuckled “lets go then,” she said with a nod before walking out of the store with him. She started to shake her head before she stopped herself “Okay... What if I buy the first round and when we inevitably both want a second like i’m sure we both know we will you can get the second one?” she suggested, that was a fair compromise, right?

Marissa strolled in, looking a bit of a mess, as she often did. Her robes were draped lazily over her arm, and her tie hung sloppily around her neck, due to her nervous habit of fidgeting with it. She flashed Molly a wide smile.

“Probably not.” She said, giving her friend a wink, “But it wasn’t detention this time, so there’s that. You’re hard at work, I see. Thank god one of us has it together.” 

She walked over and peered over Molly’s shoulder, her brows drawing together in thoughtful confusion. “Is that a potions essay? Did we have a potions essay? … wait, did I write a potions essay?” 

Unlike her friend, despite being in the common room Mollys uniform was still as neat as it was when she put it on this morning. Normally when she was in the common room for the rest of the day she would at least take her tie off but ever since she was appointed as head girl she really took the way she presented herself seriously so the uniform stay together until she went to bed. 

Molly chuckled and shook her head fondly “fair enough.” she said, she probably wasn’t the most responsible head girl hogwarts had seen, more often than not if she caught a student doing something and no one else saw she’d let them go with a warning and oh boy did she have unlimited warnings. But she found in doing that she managed to be able to get to the bottom of more serious problems quicker, she had more respect from the rest of the students than she thinks she would have if she ruled with an iron fist. 

Molly raised her eyebrows at her friend and nodded slightly “uhm... yeah,” she said with a small laugh “I don’t know if you wrote one, though, they’re due tomorrow so if I were you I’d check,” she said with a slight nod. She’d definitely help her friend if she hadn’t finished it but she also wasn’t going to spend another hour or so helping her friend write one all to find out Marissa had written the essay and just forgot.

Molly was lost in concentration as she worked on her potions essay, with everything that had been going on lately she had been slacking on her school work, she wasn’t anywhere close to being behind but anything that wasn’t perfect grades wasn’t good enough for her and luckily right now she had the focus to get her essay done. Just as she was finishing up she glanced at the clock and frowned slightly at how much time had managed to pass without her realizing. When the doors to the common room opened she smiled when she saw her friend Marissa walk in “Hey,” she said. “Do I wanna know what kept you out this late?” she asked with a small laugh, making it clear she was just joking around.

Lucy tapped her foot on the grass outside Hogwarts, waiting for her sister to arrive. She’d already been waiting twenty minutes, and was growing more impatient by the second. Luckily, her sister soon appeared, and Lucy waved her over. “It’s about time. Now, hold still. I need to practice one little jinx…”

Molly raised her eyebrows when she saw Lucy waving her over and walked over to her sister. She rolled her eyes “No,” she answered, her tone easily giving away her annoyance “I’m not your personal test subject.”

“Butterbeer sounds perfect right now.” Isaiah nodded, a small grin on his face. “I actually don’t think I’ve had a good butterbeer since the final Hogsmede trip of last year. Didn’t ever bother getting one over the summer.” He said. “Plus it gives us the chance to catch up.”

Molly nodded in agreement “Honestly I think I only got one over the summer,” she chuckled. “But that only gives us even more of a reason to go now, my treat,” she smiled, putting the book she had picked off the shelf before Isaiah had come in back, she’d come back and get it later, there wasn’t any rush.

“You know, rumor has it that for two people to stay friends they need to actually talk more than once a school year so I’m glad you’re on board.” Isaiah teased, but winked, chuckling so she knew he wasn’t serious. “But what do you want to do? I’ll let you decide.”

Molly chuckled lightly, she knew he was joking but he was also right, she hasn’t done a good job at keeping up any of her friendships this year. At his question she shrugged “I don’t know I could go for a butterbeer if you’re up for one?” she asked.

“I know exactly what you mean.” Isaiah nodded, chuckling slightly in agreement. “Things at the castle have just been so… stressful wherever you go. It’s nice to have the day just to get out and relax a little  bit.” He said. “Just browsing. Or really wandering as long as I can to avoid heading back to school just yet so if you were looking for someone to keep you some company I’m more than willing.”

Molly nodded, she knew she wasn’t the only one stressed, sometimes it felt like the tension at the school was so thick you could cut it with a knife, she didn’t know what it was about this year though, things weren’t this bad last year, she knew that much. “It is, I think everyone needs it honestly,” she said. She grinned at his offer of company and nodded “I’d like that yeah,I feel like we haven’t really gotten the chance to hang out.”

Molly had been one of the people Isaiah had to work hard on remembering where their relationship stood at this point. Where they stood had changed more than once recently, and the last thing he needed was to start flirting when he shouldn’t or worse, not when he should have. They were just friends. “Not a whole lot.” He shrugged. “Just enjoying the weekend of freedom. What about you?”

Molly nodded slightly “Pretty much the same,” she said “Things are so crazy these days, I told myself I was only coming out for a bit to get some new quills and it’s become an all day thing,” she chuckled “it’s a nice break though, I forget how nice it is here until I end up coming.” she said with a smile “Are you here for something specific or just browsing?” she asked.

Isaiah didn’t really have anything he particularly needed to purchase from Tomes and Scrolls, which was surprising seeing as this was probably the first time since his first ever visit to Hogsmede he didn’t have a particular book in mind. But he decided to pop in real quick anyway in hopes of finding something that might spark his interest and grinned when he walked in and spotted Molly waving to him right away. He waved back quickly and walked in her direction, his smile still present as he met up with her. “Hey.”

Molly grinned at him “Hey stranger,” she said with a grin, Isaiah had been the first of her flings she told it wouldn’t continue this year, he was the easiest for her to tell to. She wasn’t sure what it was but Isaiah was probably the one person Molly felt like she could tell anything to without worry. She didn’t for a second think that putting a stop to that part of their relationship would affect her friendship with him and she was happy that he was here now, she truly enjoyed his company. “What have you been up to?”

Molly smiled to herself as she looked through the shelves Tomes and Scrolls had to be her favorite place in Hogsmeade, sometimes it was the only shop that made the weekend trips worth it. Sure, she loved the library at hogwarts and it gave her more than enough books to read but there was something different about an actual bookstore, everything about it was amazing to her. She picked up a book from the shelf and flipped through it before tucking it under her arm, she was definitely going to buy this one. She looked up when she heard the door open and smiled when she saw Isaiah,  she hadn’t actually talked to him much since school started and she figured now was as good a time as any. She looked around her before she wandered over to where he was now looking “hey,” she said with a smile.

Spencer chuckled and pulled her in for a hug before lightly gripping her shoulders so he could look her in the eyes. “Moll, you can tell me anything,” he assured her before letting go of her shoulders. “You’re just fucking cool. If we never hook up again, I’ll be disappointed, of course, but I’d rather that than never hang out again.”

Molly couldn’t fight the smile when he hugged her, deep down she felt bad for hiding things from him but... It was all over and done with and assuming she managed to keep whoever x was from spilling the secret everything would be fine, she truly didn’t think he needed to know. “I know, I’m sorry, I should have just told you upfront,” she said, “I’m glad you’re cool with it though, I did miss hanging out,” it was true, she did, Molly wasn’t sure how but there was something about Spencer that always made him fun to just be around and he really was a great friend to have.

Spencer saw she was having trouble talking to him, but when she finished, his eyes lit up. “Wait… were you trying to turn me down?” he asked, a smile forming on his face. He chuckled as he said “Oh thank God, I thought you didn’t want to even be friends anymore!” He was so relieved he forgot where he was for a moment and saw others looking at him with annoyance. He gave a nod of apology to the older woman shopping before he continued, this time in a softer voice. “Moll, if you don’t want to hook up anymore, or for me to stop flirting with you, I can do that. Why didn’t you just say so? I thought I was always giving the impression that you could tell me anything.”

If Molly wasn’t so relieved to have figured out a plausible explanation for why she had been avoiding him and to fix the reason she felt like she had to avoid him she’d have been a bit more offended that he seemed so relieved. When Spencer started to get loud her eyes widened slightly, looking around them and laughing nervously  before turning her attention back to Spencer “I guess I’m not always as smart as I try to be,” she answered with a shrug, “I don’t know, I guess part of me was worried that you wouldn’t want to keep being friends, Like I said, I was stupid, I’m really sorry.”

She was even avoiding looking at him. How badly had he fucked up? He had already racked his brain for reasons she would be mad at him, but the most possible reasons weren’t even that solid.

He took a small step forward so he could whisper and she could hear. “Are we, like, okay?” he asked. “I feel like you’ve been avoiding me, and I don’t know what it is I did, otherwise I’d say sorry, you know?”

Molly tensed up slightly when he stepped closer to her, She took a deep breath when he spoke and shook her head slightly, looking at him again “Spencer we’re fine, I promise you didn’t do anything.” She felt terrible doing this to him, but the idea of having a repeat of what happened over the summer terrified her. 

“I’m sorry you think I’ve been--” She cut herself off mid sentence, was she really about to lie to him? When it’s clear to them both that she had been avoiding him? Maybe she didn’t have to, maybe she could turn this into something a little better. “You didn’t do anything wrong, Spencer, I swear I just... I don’t want to hurt your feelings.” it was true, she didn’t. She didn’t have romantic feelings for Spencer but she did like him, he was fun to be around and he really was a nice guy.

Spencer was on his way to Honeydukes for a chocolate frog to give to Fiona when he noticed Molly walking into the quill shop. He knew she had been avoiding him, and he had no idea why. Did he insult her somehow with their last conversation? Did the flirting go too far?

Spencer looked at the note in his hand and placed it carefully in his pocket. He could use a distraction from the X dare, and maybe finding out what was wrong with Molly would help ease his mind.

He walked in and tapped her on the shoulder before giving her a tiny wave. “Hey Moll, can we talk?”

Molly didn’t normally go into hogsmeade, she didn’t usually see the point in making the trips, sure they were fun and it was fun to explore the village but she didn’t care for the trips that 3rd years and up went on, the village wasn’t that big and it got overcrowded fast.

She made an exception this time though, she needed more quills and she also had a bit of a sweet tooth, plus it was the first trip of the year, as crowded as those were they were also fun she loved seeing how excited the third years were at getting to go for the first time, it was worth dealing with the crowds. 

When she felt a tap on her shoulder she looked behind her, raising her eyebrows in surprise when she saw it was Spencer, she had still been trying to avoid him and she had honestly thought the quill shop of all places would be the safest from him. At his question she nodded “Uh, yeah, sure Spencer, what’s up?” she asked, looking back at the shelf of quills.

His smile returned when she apologized, not because he wanted an apology, but because he then knew that she wasn’t mad at him. “I’ll be more careful next time,” he promised before his eyes widened a bit with excitement. “Helping at the ministry? That sounds super interesting! I mean, I’ve never been there so I wouldn’t know, but it sounds like some cool shit would go down there.” At her question, he shrugged, having gotten pretty good at the charade by now, considering how many people had asked him already. “Pretty boring too. Mostly worked at McDonalds, worked out, but that’s pretty much it.” She didn’t need to know what he had gone through, no one did.

Molly nodded slightly at his promise “I appreciate it,” she chuckled before nodding with a smile “Yeah, it was, I mean mostly it was just helping keep paperwork organized but I like my dad, and it was nice getting to spend more time with him than I normally would over the summer, plus, it’s set me up with a few connections for when I graduate so it really worked out,” she said, nodding as he spoke “Mcdonalds, that’s a muggle place, right? Like a restaurant?” she asked.
