Sim lab

Yesterday’s pediatric simulation lab went great! Each simulation really tied into what we have been studying. We were able to apply our knowledge to a “real” situation and take charge as the nurse. Discussing the simulation afterwards was very helpful in discussing other ways we could have went about the patient encounter. Overall a good experience!

I truly enjoyed this years simulation as well . I felt way more overwhelmed with last semesters simulation and I didn't felt as though it tied in with what we were learning at the exact time. I felt especially confident with the pediatric sim. I felt that it tied right in with the knowledge we are currently studying which made a lot easier and more interesting!

Thankful for these girls for making our first clinical experience an amazing one! To think back on the first day we were all so nervous we didn't know how we were going to do it. Walking to a patients room alone seemed like the scariest thing in the world. Over these past few months we have all grown so much and gained so much confidence in our nursing skills. We have had so many great experiences here and I am truly going to miss it. Cheers to completing our first clinical ladies and supporting each other through it ! On to the next we go and one step closer to being registered nurses !! Wohooo

Everyone always says to find out what nursing field you truly love and want to work in it becomes all about experience and getting your foot it different doors to find out. Being only two semesters In and only having two clinical experiences I truly believe that is true. In just a few months I have found certain fields that I would love to work in and others that I absolutely would not. I have always said I wanted to work with children and I know that is something I am truly passionate about. Working in the NICU or labor and deliver I have always felt I would love to do. During my time at Dupont I had the opportunity to shadow in the NICU and I had a great experience but I was unsure if it was something I could see myself doing for the rest of my life. I am extremely excited to experience labor and delivery this summer and hopefully find my passion there. If not, I know there is a million other fields of nursing and that it why nursing is so amazing! There is a special field for everyone and I may find that one day I may be working in a field or on a floor that I never could picture myself doing!

What is sleep..

It is 12:38 pm. 

I have to be up and back at school tomorrow by 8:30 

which means I have to leave at 8 am

which means I have to be up at 7 am to get ready 

which means I have about 6ish hours to sleep

But what am I doing instead of sleep?

Stressing out because I have not started studying my drug cards for a patho quiz that is in 2 weeks.  

I feel like I am loosing my mind

I think everyone one of us in the loosing our mind states, some more than others but we are so close to the end of the semester and we will get through it! Positive thoughts, work our hardest and study our best and before we know it will be over!!

Little appreciation post for my biggest supporter, my mama! There is not a day that goes by that she doesn't ask how my day was, what I am learning about, or how I'm feeling about everything. From the day we started this program she has been my backbone though it all. My mom being a nurse herself also understands how I'm feeling certain days and knows that there is times that I need my alone time and don't want to be bothered with anyone or anything. My mom is a hospice nurse and she is one of the hardest working people I know. I ask myself all time how she does it and I can only hope that one day I am half as good and strong as a nurse that she is today!

Studying

My life has been consumed to studying and figuring out nursing concepts. I have evolved my life around nursing school and i believe that it is important to put your 100% into something that you want. At times i do feel like i need to switch up my studying habits because i want to do better. Nursing school is so hard and i have to keep pushing myself to be the best me.

I believe there is no way someone could make it through nursing school without putting there full 100 % effort into it. Like you said, nursing school is definitely not easy but I just try to remind myself over and over that we chose this career for a reason and that in the end it will be all worth it!! We got this girl!

1 month left

Leaving our last pediatrics clinical was bitter sweet. It not only signified moving forward in our nursing program, but it meant we no longer would be in AI DuPont for rotation anymore. I cannot stress enough the importance of loving what you do day in and day out. Doing something that doesn’t feel like “work”. Being so passionate about something that you wanna do it every day for the rest of your life. Doing something that can turn your most awful day into a good day, or something that makes your heart feel so full that it might burst. Being at AI DuPont did that for me. My patients were so so brave and so strong and they were almost always smiling no matter what they were physically feeling. They gave me more strength and determination then they will ever know. I am so thankful. 

With this clinical behind our belts it is so surreal just how quickly everything is moving. Id be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous and excited at the same time

Amber my last day at Dupont as well is this Saturday, and it almost doesn't seem real. I think back to the very first day there and how I was so nervous that I wanted to throw up. I have learned so much and gained so much confidence being there. The nurses were incredible there and were always willing to take a step back and explain things a little better If they were not understood. I have always said I wanted to work with children but this clinical truly showed me how much I do. Like you said, the children are so brave there and it was such an amazing experience to be able to work and interact with them and they truly made me smile every time I was there!

De-stresss

After yet another sleepless nights and endless studying. I’m glad our patho, med surg and peds exams are over…for that week. After our peds exams. I took a break, as we all should do after taking exams after exams! I like to de-stress and relax by catching up on some sleep, watching a movie on Netflix, do a little pampering. And lets not forget about retail therapy, which I’m sure we are all guilty of! Another way I like to de-stress is by running or working out. I also like to eat Nutella (after a workout)! We all know that nursing school is very stressful, but we need to find our own different ways to lower our stress!

If I didn't de-stress I don't know I would survive school!! Retail therapy is definitely my number 1 de-stressing mechanism then comes food and sleep of course. I think its one of the most important things because if we just continued to be stressed and overwhelmed day after day we would never make it through this program. So cheers to de-stressing and shopping!!

Graduation is on my mindd

I feel like I blinked my eyes and this semester is over. In just 4 short weeks we will have completed out second semester of nursing school. It almost doesn't seem real how fast its going. Its frightening yet so exciting that we will be real life nurses so soon!! This semester has for sure pushed me to my limits but it has been so rewarding. I'm trying to be positive in every way possible but sometimes it just feels like the hardest thing to do. Trying to manage school, my own health, friends, family, personal time ect is not an easy thing! Some weeks are easier than others but I just keep reminding myself that in the end it will be all worth it!!

9 months into nursing school you would have thought I would have learned to prioritize and time manage by now but I haven't !! I envy the ones who are always way ahead of things and never leave anything to the last minute but that has never been my strong suit. With my last 3 exams coming up I know there is no room for procrastination and that is why I am rewriting notes and studying now. My goal for the summer semester is to always be ahead of things so I am not overwhelmed because nursing school is already hard enough!! Sooo that being the case if anyone has any tips or tricks on how to not procrastinate I would love to hear them :-)
