The costumed man teased her for a bit, and Molly hoped she returned the banter just as seductively. He was playful and funny and Molly couldn’t quite place his purr of a voice, but she liked him instantly. More masked men and women arrived at Mycroft’s party, and the man pulled her wordlessly onto…
Greg chuckled softly when they started to dance together. “You’re very light on your feet,” he said with a genuine smile. “It must be those wings helping you,” he teased.
The man’s voice sounded increasingly familiar - Molly was certain that she knew him well, but couldn’t determine his identity.
She tried to push the curiosity from her mind, and as he teased her, she found it was quite easy to focus on other thoughts. The man’s mouth, for instance, kept quirking into a familiar smile and Molly couldn’t help but wonder how his mouth would feel pressed against hers. Of course, she was never the daring or outright, but a masquerade enables a person to act without inhibition, or so she hoped.
After a few more bars of music, Molly raised on her toes to whisper in his ear.
"So, why don’t you tell me a little about yourself?"
Greg felt a shiver run down his spine as she whispered in his ear. Her lips had brushed against his skin softly, sending electric shocks running through his nerves. “Ah ah ah,” he tutted with a smile. “Masquerade, remember? If I tell you anything about myself, you could recognize me. I can’t take that risk. After all, I /am/ dancing with the most beautiful woman here. I don’t want to lose her just yet.”
Molly finally knew the identity of her dance partner. Greg Lestrade's voice was just too distinctive, and here she was, dancing and flirting with him just as she'd been wanting to. He had called her beautiful. The elation was intoxicating, and Molly had only one thought - if she kissed him now, given his apparent interest, would it feel any different that the cold, emotionless kiss he had given her at Mycroft's?
Molly didn't dwell on how he had used her not even a week prior, or her interest in Irene, or how he was the Detective Inspector of the Scotland yard, for God's sake! Instead, she focused on his graceful dancing and gentle touch, but it was still against Molly's better judgement that she leaned forward and kissed him.
