“I do,” he assures her, listening as she speaks of her struggles. “I can relate to that; I fought to keep the Persians from invading my country. It seems we’ve both had to face the hardships of protecting our people.”

He does not speak of the fact that he and his diminished army had fallen, ultimately, nor does he voice his nagging concern for what might have become of his country since his death. Lancer had to remind himself that it did not matter, only that his people found a way to live on. Land and borders could be regained, or made anew. It was the lives of his brethren that he hoped managed to move forward.

‘Thank you, Saber, on behalf of myself and the people of Sparta,” he nods, giving the knight a wide grin, “It is assuring to know that you feel that way.”
