In honor of November 5th, in which this poll will conclude (if I know how to do math)
Pouring one out for my neglected son Kamijou Mutsuki from Kamen Rider Blade who probably didn't get submitted. His parents don't care about his emotional well-being and didn't even realize when he got possessed by a 10,000-year-old-spider. As a baby, he was forgotten in a locker for several HOURS at a school near his hospital of birth (no idea how anyone would even accomplish that but apparently Mutsuki's parents both did). When he's in middle school, they don't know he likes basketball or that he has a girlfriend, or that he went through a phase of beating up 3 adult men (the other Kamen Riders in his show) simultaneously due to his inferiority complex.
Mutsuki subscribed to the "I don't mean anything to anyone" ideology for a long time, and it took a consistent team effort to convince him otherwise. Blade isn't perfect by any means, but I love its found family arc for Mutsuki.

Adding to the Mizuki Date propaganda, spoilers for AI: The Somnium Files - nirvanA Initiative
We find out during the sequel that the Okiuras actually adopted Mizuki. In my personal opinion this makes them even worse than when everyone assumed they were her bio parents. Unlike an unplanned pregnancy you don't just accidentally adopt a child, doing it officially like they did is a whole deliberate process, and yet the Okiuras did it anyway despite clearly not being ready for parenthood (both had busy jobs that left little time for childrearing, Shoko had to actually quit hers for a while which of course she blamed on Mizuki, and Shoko refused to acknowledge her own trauma from her own abusive mother) I know some fans ignore this reveal because it raises so many unanswered questions; I don't like it either. But it's worth mentioning anyway because of how much worse it makes Renju and Shoko look.

âOkay, so, this is a matter of perception and what actually happens. Daddy issues: this one's slightly more controversial, but he PERCIEVES that he gets less love from his father than his adoptive brother (he counts the times he's been held as a child [not many] and is very upset when his father makes him send his dogs away to make emotional space for said adoptive brother) and that his father is very harsh with him because he doesn't love him. Why does Jiang Cheng thing his father doesn't like or love him? Introduce the MOMMY ISSUES!!! His mother accuses his father of liking the adopted son more all the time and forgetting who his true flesh and blood is, causing a huge rift in the entire family. (She's jealous of a dead woman that, honestly, I don't think Jiang Cheng's dad ever had a shot with.) She constantly pits the boys against each other, sowing discord in the family and leaving her son Traumatized~! He IS loved by both his parents, but their toxicity towards each other definitely left him, the adopted son, and their poor daughter with different flavors of mommy and daddy issues. (Except the adopted son always knows in his heart who is actual parents are and says at one point that he does get tired of people forgetting that they, yk, existed and were in love with each other.)â
"Convinced that his dad loved their families ward more than him and said ward has to repeatedly comfort him about it. Mother is a huge bitch that propagates this idea. She only shows affection to him on screen before dying. Most of her time onscreen is her yelling at her husband about how she believes he hates Jiang Cheng because she birthed him. Child of parents that should've divorced."
âThe Jiang family is a MESS and Jiang Cheng is very much a product of that. His father prefers his adopted son over him while his mother is abusive, controlling and blames Jiang Cheng for not being talented enough. As you can imagine, this man does not grow up well-adjusted at all.â

âMommy is mad at Daddy for not loving her. Daddy hates conflict and ignores Mommy as much as possible. The three kids manage to grow up loving each other despite all this.) Mommy hates the foster-brother (who is (falsely) rumored to actually be Daddy's son) and needs Jiang Cheng to be better than him in every way. She needs Jiang Cheng to be the BEST. But he's not. He's pretty damned impressive in his own right, but he doesn't have Protagonist Energy. He has Secondary Character Energy. The parenting ranges from Tough Love to just your basic abuse. Anyway, Mommy and Daddy and nearly everyone else at home are brutally murdered. Jiang Cheng inherits his father's position and his mom's sexy magic purple lightning whip and rebuilds the family home and raises his orphaned nephew with a whole lot more love and a whole lot less abuse than he got himself. He cries a lot."
âman is the poster child for parent issues. he's the heir to a powerful sect, but his parents had an unhappy marriage and he had a wretched relationship with them before their violent deaths. his father jfm dislikes jc as a person because he thinks jc doesn't embody the clan motto and is too similar to his mother, a woman he resents having to marry. jfm favors jc's adopted brother because that boy's mom is the one he actually wanted to marry, and jc's mother knows it and takes it out on all of them. jc knows he is considered inferior by both of his parents and that he could never do enough to 'earn' their affection or approval, despite family love being his single most deeply desired wish. during a grug-induced hallucination, he just sees them all getting along and loving each other. but the murder of his parents cuts off any hope for reconciliation or healing between them, and he grows into a bitter, insecure, aggressive, violent, and jealous individual as a result. he ends the story utterly alone besides his young nephew, blacklisted by matchmakers and having pushed away his brother in misguided blame for the death of their sisterâ
âInsane Mommy AND Daddy issues (ignored and neglected by Dad in favour of his bestie's son, frequently berated by his extremely fierce and sharp-tongued Mom, perpetually in the centre of CONFLICT between parents, who then die traumatically).â
âJiang Chengâs parents need a divorce SO bad, but they canât get one, and they both take it out on him. JC takes after his mother in a lot of ways, which makes his relationship with his father deeply strained. His dad loves him, but he doesnât seem like him much sometimes. Heâs very frequently disappointed in him, and heâs physically unaffectionate and distant, showing clear favoritism toward Jiang Chengâs adopted brother. Meanwhile, his mother projects her own resentment toward her husband and the adopted-ish brother onto JC. She belittles him, constantly comparing him to the brother and saying heâs a failure of an heir for not being able to match someone who should be his subordinate/inferior.â
âtbf I think daddy/mommy issues run in the family considering who his nephew is, but Jiang Cheng is a big mess of daddy/mommy-related trauma shambling around and masquerading as a manâ
âThis guy's parents (father Jiang Fengmian & mother Yu Ziyuan) really gave him the worst inferiority complex. His father always dismissed him & heavily favors Jiang Cheng 's brother and his mother, jealous bc the brother is adopted and not her kid, is suoer hard on him and constantly telling him how much he sucks. Really fucks up his relationship with said brother in later parts of the show.â
âHis dad has never hugged him and likes his adopted brother better than him to the point where people think the adopted brother is his dad's secret bastard child. His mom always compares him negatively to the adopted brother and says he'll never be good enough and that his dad hates him because he reminds his dad of her. His biggest dream is for his family to be happy and his parents to love him.â
âMy manâs dad literally picked up another kid and made him get rid of his puppies. His mom was constantly complaining he wasnât as good as the other kid and saying this is why his dad didnât love him. And then they died horribly leaving him in charge of his clan.â
"Listen, this man's mother grabbed his arm (therefore making sure he stays within earshot) shows him to his father and says ""I know you don't love him and that he's a major disappointment, but he's still your son!"" to which I thought 'was it really necessary to say that in front of him????' But his father didn't even argue! He just said ""Wife, not now"" and walks off 'cause he's got better things to do than be in the same room with his family."
âso one jc's dad likes jc's childhood friend better than jc (jc has only been held by his dad less than five times). this is because jc is too much like his mother, who jc's dad was kind of forced to marry. jc's mom is constantly screaming at everybody and whipping people with her tazer whip. jc later inherits that same tazer whip. the nicest thing his parents do for him is die so that he can escape a total genocide of his martial arts sect.â

- the kid (Wei Wuxian) is scared of dogs so Jiang Chengâs dad forces Jiang Cheng to give his three dogs away
- Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng grow up, and Wei Wuxian ends up being better in almost everything. Jiang Chengâs mom harshly scolds and criticizes Jiang Cheng for not measuring up and being as good
- Jiang Chengâs dad behaves more affectionately and permissibly toward Wei Wuxian, doting on him to the extent that Jiang Chengâs mom criticizes him for favoring him over his own son
- she tells Jiang Cheng that he will never be good enough for his dad because he reminds him of her; meanwhile, Wei Wuxian, the son of the woman he used to love, will always be above Jiang Cheng
- Wei Wuxian gets injured and trapped in a cave while Jiang Cheng runs home for a week straight, never stopping to rest while he tries to bring help. When Wei Wuxian is rescued, Jiang Chengâs father praises Wei Wuxian for best exemplifying their clanâs motto. Jiang Cheng watches while receiving no praise for his own actions
- also Jiang Cheng watches his parents get murdered in front of him, which is also very traumatizing "
Siobhan âShivâ Roy (Succession) Propaganda
A solid 80-90% of the show Succession is devoted to exploring how spectacularly bad the Roy siblingsâ relationship to their father is, so I wonât belabor that point. Heâs profoundly emotionally abusive, but sheâs a daddyâs girl, and that is a truly terrible combination of traits. But though all of the Succ siblings fit this poll, Shivâs relationship with her mother is quite probably the worst in the show. Her mother blames her for ruining their relationship when Shiv was like 12. They make digs at each other constantly. Shiv makes a lot of choices very blatantly just to prove that sheâs a better wife and mother than her mom is (sheâs not). They are each otherâs weak point.
Yang Xiao Long (RWBY) Propaganda
âMommy AND Mommy issues. Her bio mom abandoned her as a baby and her stepmom(who she thought was her bio mom) died when she was little. She only found out that she had a different bio mom after her stepmom died. She considers her stepmom her mother as much as her bio mom. The stepmom haunts the narrative since sheâs the main characterâs bio mom, and whenever Yang sees her bio mom they bristle at each other like two cowboys in a Wild West movie. Sheâs got abandonment issues. There is also an argument for Daddy issues because after the stepmom died he shut down emotionally and only took care of their physical needs, Yang had to emotionally raise her younger (step)sister Ruby. She reconnects with her dad in season four, though. There is a song from the soundtrack called âAll Our Daysâ from his perspective thatâs about Yang, where he calls her his hero and says heâll always be around for her(with the unspoken implication that heâs making up for her mom not doing the same). And if you really want a complete picture of her, we also have to talk about UNCLE issues. Ever since finding out about her bio mom(his sister) and him not telling Yang anything about her for years(despite knowing where she was and presumably talking to her somewhat regularly), there was a bit of a disconnect between them. Heâs involved enough in his nieceâs lives to deserve the title of a parental figure, and therefore qualify for Uncle Issues.â
âHer birth mom abandoned her right after she was born, her second mom went MIA (presumed dead) AFTER which she found out about her birth mom. Became consumed with finding find out why her birth mom left to the point of sneaking out as a small child into dangerous woods. Continued looking for about 10 years (until she finally found her and called her out on her BS)â
Adrien Agreste (Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir) Propaganda
âbro is fucked up by both parents. he talks about how he only had one friend and never had a birthday party before ect ectâ
âHis mom disappeared (or so he believes) and as a result his dad turned into a supervillain (unbeknownst to him) who constantly shuts himself away from his son and barely pays him any attention.â
âBaby boy's mother is ""missing"" and his dad is very aloof and distant. He does care about Adrien, but has a very poor way of showing it. However, you would never know his parental issues, as he has the sweetest, kindest heart you'll ever come across, although it does affect him more than he lets on.â
Cassandra Cain (DC Comics) Propaganda
âHer dad raised her to be a weapon. Her mom wants to fight her to the death.â
"FIRST OFF both of her biological parents are notorious assassins within the universe, but also she gets adopted by fucking BATMAN. And while her relationship with him is Definitely better than some of the Robins in him, you don't get to be adopted by Bruce Wayne without getting some kinda daddy issues in the welcome package.
Cass was raised by her bio father David Cain without language until she was like 12ish after she was forced to kill a person for the first time and then spent the next 5ish years wandering the world trying to escape the League of Assassins. And the whole time her mom Lady Shiva has just been a deadbeat mom who is also an assassin. Lady Shiva, btw, had cass with the express purpose to have someone that could actually kill her. They have a tense and complicated relationship where Cass wishes her mother was the person she imagined her to be while also acknowledging the fact Shiva Sucks but she's Family. Family who has also tried to kill her more than once."

Red Son (Lego Monkie Kid) Propaganda
"This guy's got Mommy and Daddy issues up the wazoo, like, his Dad was imprisoned for *500* years under a magical seal leaving him to be raised by his mom. Well, it's heavily implied that he was at least mentally abused by his mother, for how often she belittles and condescends to him. (like seriously her term of endearment for him is '[her] sweet useless boy') leaving him with such a drive to prove himself that this kid SINGLEHANDEDLY frees his father from his magical restraints, something that was implied to be basically impossible for those 500 years because he SCIENCED the shit out of magic until magic had to give way, and my man didn't even get a single 'thank you' from either his mother OR his recently freed father.
it's implied that his father has trauma, or was just following the example his mom laid out, and even in flashback it's implied he actually was quite a good father to Red Son before his imprisonment, but as things are now he's VERY much just as bad as his wife. He openly calls his son a failure, makes it CLEAR that love is fully conditional (like there's a scene when another villain was chasing after Red Son, and his Dad immediately calls him 'worthless offspring' until its revealed that that villain didn't manage to catch him and Red got away to which his dad IMMEIDATLEY goes 'never doubted him for a second' and it's funny but it's also fucked up bc later on it's basically pulling teeth for him to even call Red his 'son' (and Red is so excited about it too like he sincerely hasn't heard his father even so much as claim him as his own))
There's an entire sequence where Red is invested in a certain competition that neither of his parents are interested in, only when after he storms out his parents decide to involve themselves in the competition independent of Red specifically because they knew if they did it would upset him
At one point his father gets possessed by an evil entitity and goes into a whole tirade on how worthless Red is and he just stands there and accepts it and you get the feeling that very little of this is anything he hasn't heard before. he's not even shocked at some of the shit coming out of his father's mouth until accusations of him betraying the family start getting thrown around

"Red Sonâs father was sealed under a mountain for the majority of his life, and lived with his mother up until very recently. His mother can be seen grabbing at his face and calling him a âsweet, USELESS boyâ to his face, and otherwise being similarly cruel to him.
When his father is once again back in his life, Red Son is notably scared of his father, and this fear lingers even after his father seemingly takes steps to try and improve. Itâs implied that his father had never called him âsonâ before he took these steps.
Much of Red Sonâs character revolves around his inferiority complex which stems from how his parents treat him as useless and stupid. Both of his parents have called him useless in canon at least once, and they both joined a race neither had interest in for the specific expressed purpose of crushing Red Sonâs ambitions of winning the race, and no other reason. (Canon dialogue also includes Red Son angrily saying, âOh, so I guess I'm supposed to make barbeque for peasants, with little, unworthy, disappointing tastebuds-â before looking away suddenly, shrinking in on himself, and saying in a sudden sad tone of voice â- who shame their fathersâŠâ before immediately going back to anger in the following dialogue without missing a beat.)

"This guy. This g u y.... The sole son of the renowned Demon Bull Family, the child of a Celestial maiden and a demon king, so ferociously powerful they had to nerf him when he was a baby so he now has an instinctive deep seated inferiority complex. It's not just that though- his relationship to his parents when we first meet him is. B-A-D BAD. His father immediately focuses on his failures from the moment he's revived, his mother calls him useless and demeans him on multiple occasions, and it's taken FOUR DAMN SEASONS for their actions toward him to be called anywhere NEAR ""loving & caring"". It's literally such a mess, and their growth is very slow and in the background so it's agonizing on top of that. Red Son never really has a confrontation episode, just... Keeps trying so so hard, and sometimes it gets him recognition, so he drives himself deeper into trying harder. It's awful honestly. So yeah this guy has so many issues and I blame his family for like 80% of them "

âRedSon is the son of PIF and DBK (acronyms). He is shown to suffer from emotional abuse and often seeks out validation from his family. The fandom is currently coping with the fact that RedSon's emotional turmoil may never come to a satisfying end in the source material (which is a shame). Apart from that the source material doesn't focus a lot on the DBK family structure and when it does (mainly in Season 1) we saw the emotional damage in RedSon's psyche and life. This leads us to understand very little of the emotional damage RedSon suffers from and why it happened. Due to this, I believe that RedSon should win due to him despite suffering from emotional turmoil is one of the coolest characters the fandom has recieved that turned from a villain into a hero.â
