I am so for Hanzo and Genji making amends and being brothers again. You have no idea how nice that is to me. I am all for the healing process.
Hanzo clearly still has trouble coping with what he did, Genji not being dead, and life as it is now. Look at his reactions in Dragons. That’s a lot of hurt to decompile. You can’t like. Force that. And Genji has forgiven Hanzo, but Genji is also still feeling his way down his own new path.
They both have a lot of healing to do.
Give me fic where they work on this. Give me Zenyatta reaching out to Hanzo and Hanzo rebuffing him, and Zenyatta accepting that, and telling him that Zenyatta will still be here if Hanzo needs someone to talk to. That whatever Hanzo needs to confide will stay between them, because that is why confidence is a thing.
Give me Zenyatta gently but firmly rebuffing a nosy Genji asking about what Zenyatta said to Hanzo.
Give me Hanzo needing someone, anyone, at three AM when he wakes up in a cold sweat after another nightmare of the day he killed Genji, and he comes to Zenyatta’s door. Give me Hanzo desperate for a willing, nonjudgmental ear and only knowing one place he can turn with certainty.
Give me Hanzo pouring out his emotions to the only person he feels safe speaking to this way because Zenyatta has no ulterior motives, Zenyatta only wants to help. Give me Hanzo baring all the gaping wounds in his broken heart and trusting that Zenyatta won’t turn away at the ugliness of it. Give me Zenyatta seeing another broken, angry, hurting person and reminding himself that he who saves one man, it is as if he has saved the world, and giving Hanzo the same fullness of caring and counsel that he gave Genji.
Give me fic with Hanzo starting to heal and Zenyatta never pushing him, never forcing it along, just being there. And adamantly refusing to expose anything to Genji because that is not how it works; Hanzo will share things with Genji when Hanzo is ready.
Give me Hanzo finally ready to face Genji again. Give me Hanzo telling Genji all the details of his side of what happened, give me Hanzo trying to formally apologise to Genji, kneeling, hands on his lap, and slowly breaking down into tears because he is afraid and so sorry and if Genji changes his mind after knowing everything Hanzo thought and felt that awful night, if Genji withdraws his forgiveness knowing all the truths, then Hanzo will leave and never darken his door again.
Give me Genji holding his big brother and kissing his temple and telling him how he’s missed him, and he still loves him, and give me Hanzo holding onto his little brother like a lifering in a stormy sea and crying into his shoulder because he has gone years hating himself, hating who he is and what he did, years being angry and bitter and empty and lost.
Give me fic where the healing is a process, and not glossed over, and where Zenyatta is a part of it. Genji is so important to him, and that extends to Hanzo almost certainly, because Hanzo is important to Genji, and Hanzo needs to heal, too.
God I would read this. So many times.
