just can't stop thinking about larys shaving, brushing his hair and standing so tall when he's talking to alicent. like i heard you like masculine men what about this? and you could even make a case about larys using the harmless facade during all those years because he didn't want to scare alicent as A Man + the obvious deshumanization happening due to his disability.

and it's so uncomfortable to alicent. because now larys is a Real Man and manages alicent's household as a husband. plus the oppressive touch of larys being the one to choose her staff when it was him who also knew there was a spy in her old one. they ALL serve him. the illusion of freedom and the gender of it all bc now alicent can't ignore larys the same as before. he sexually terrorized her but now he's has the noble lord facade, a viable option FOR WHEN YOU GET TIRED OF CRISTON!!!!!! he has the brains she liked all those years ago and he /can/ be a man and please her like criston does.

Alicent is Larys' flower in the most disturbing way possible, he's like a gardener tending to her, helping her grow, admiring her beauty, which includes extending the life of his flower and protecting her against infections by cutting the stem (Aegon II's murder).

This is a brilliant take. Also by cutting the flower he is showing that he is and will stay in control. He will nourish and protect her but has also the power to erase her if she should ever turn against him. By cutting the flower of the stems (cutting her of her roots) he isolates her more and more, making her more vulnerbale and dependeten of him.

Larys shows stark tendencies of a sociopath. He regards the concept of love as a weakness but he can't deny that he feels himself attracted to Alicent. Maybe his way with the flower is the only way for him to express his admiration.

Otto to Larys: “Look, I’m going to hang a Lord just because I suspect that he intended to carry information to the princess even tho I have no real evidence. But I know what you are doing at night with my only daughter and I don’t like it at all. You don’t want to find out what I will do to you if this affair continues.”

Larys to Otto: “Oh how sweet. Listen, I have nothing against you or you political maneuveres but I would like you to keep out of my business. I like your daughter and I will not stop with the things I’m doing with her and I don’t really see how this affair should concern you or give you any kind of disadvantage. And believe me, you don’t want to me to be your enemy.”

At night Larys to Alicent: “Your father is bothering me lately and you seem to have your disputes with him aswell. We will destroy his advantage if we erase his valuable source of information. We will put him in his place.”

If you didn’t read the novel Fire&Blood and don’t want to read any kind of spoilers regarding some events of the civil war ‚dance of the dragons‘ I would like you stop reading this post right now. Thank you.

SPOILER: (Sorry this will be really long, and English isn’t my native language, so sorry for crazy ass mistakes.)

Call me overly romantic but I actually don’t believe it was Larys intention to betray Alicent in the first place (killing her son) but his action is perhaps the only option to save Alicent and himself (and any other) from excecution (didn’t really work out) and a brutal siege of kingslanding.

Larys sees the bigger picture. Alicents last remaining son, king Aegon II is a heavyly injured, sick king. The North, Vale and the riverlords have declared for Queen Rheanyras last remaining son prince Aegon III who is held captive at the Redkeep. The Lords march solwly down to south in an attempt to besiege the capital. Even with lord Corlys and his ships on King Aegon II side, Kings Landing won’t endure another siege and a nother sack. The only way to get out of this misery and to not get sacked and excecuted by the enemy is to make peace with the lords and proclaim Rheanyras son the heir. But instead King Aegon II threatens to behead all the traitors. Lord Corlys is outraged by this and storms out of the counsil. At this point Larys reaches out to Lord Corlys to plan an counterplot. They simply cannot lose Lord Corlys to the enemy and Larys has told multiple times that they need Lord Corlys and cannot afford to upset him any longer.

So Larys allies with Corlys and tells him about the plan of the king to have corlys get murdered in secret (by this he betrays Alicent). Corlys is outraged and wants to strom the counsil killing everyone. But Larys stops him and offers him a different plan:

I think the original plot was not to kill Aegon II in the first place (that would be treason). But to have King Aegon II surrender, to abdicate prince Aegon and making the king take the black at the Night watch. Aegon II would not be King anymore but he would be alive and the realm would be for a short break at peace.

Lord Corlys offers King Aegon II this option. And after Lord Borros defeat at the trident and no support from the allies, King Aegon II really considered this. But then Queen Alicent told him (out of fear) that the prince would probably show him no mercy and tells him to better to cut of the ears of the Prince to send them as a warning to the riverlords. Aegon II (beeing a mommas boy) agreed to this. But this cruel act would only put oil in the fire and make everything worse. And on top of that Aegon II threatens Lord Corlys to hurt his precious niece Lady Baela as well if his men would be get beaten in the next battle.

So the original plan failed. Both Larys and Corlys have no time left but to get the alternative plan (the bloody plan) into action. So at night the killing starts. The King gets poisioned and appr. 40 loyalists are getting murdered. So this is quite a bloodbath and in such a bloodbath mistakes can happen. So as a little Larycent shipper I believe that Corlys and Larys make the bloobath come into action but under following conditions:

Lord Corlys loves his niece Lady Baela very much.So his condition would be that no matter what happens at that night Lady Baela must be safe. Larys knows the castle like no other. His men get her to safety.

Then there is Alicent and in the novel her fate was described as this ‚Queen Alicent was arrested on the serpentine steps as she made her way back to her chambers. Her captors wore the seahorse of House Velaryon upon their doublets, and though they slew the two men guarding her, they did no harm to the Dowager Queen herself‘

Lord Corlys men are arresting her but no harm befalls her on the serpentine steps (which is quite remarkable) but kill all of her guards. Why would Corlys spare her? In the novel Alicent resents Corlys and wanted to see him dead multiple times and I believe he doesn’t like her either. All the other loyalists are getting killed that night. So my Larycentshipper heart believes that this was Larys condition, to get her arrested yes, but also to keep her save. And by letting Alicent get arrested by Lord Corlys men, plus Lord Corlys recommendation to the King to surrender earlier that day, plus Aegons II threat to Corlys to hurt his niece if his men fail in the battle – result in a reasonable suspicion for Alicent, that Corlys would be the one who betrayed and poisioned the king.

So after the Kings death Larys plan ist to get Rheanyras last son get crowned, befriend the new king and influence him, making peace with the lords from the vale, riverland and north. Letting Alicent overcome her sorrow by marrying her grandaughter to the king. Eventually befriend Alicent again and trying to work with her to get rid of Lord Corlys. Under this reagrd the following phrase in the novel makes some sense:

‚The realm’s new rulers found themselves divided on the question of what to do with the Dowager Queen Alicent, but elsewise all seemed in accord, and good fellowship reigned…for the best part of a fortnight.‘  Larys didn’t want her to get executed or imprisoned for life. But I believe some of the other lords  didn’t want to show her any mercy.

Everthing was almost perfect and every piece came together nicely. Well Larys did kill Alicents son but luckily framed someone else for it  She will overcome her sorrow and get in touch with him again. They have a new boy king who he can easily manupilate. So perfect.  Until Lord Stark rode to town and swept all the pieces from the chessboard.

And then the hardest part:

Lord Stark presses charges against Lord Corlys and Lord Larys before the whole court. Exposing all his sins all his cards for everyone, for Alicent to see. And Alicent finally sees that it was Larys who betrayed her and killed her son. In Retrospective it is really tragic. We have here some stark contrast: When Lord Corlys says to his defense he did what he did for the realm, allies and former enemies were comming forward to say something good about Corlys and pleaded for mercy on his behalf. But with Larys no one said anything, no one stepped forward to plea mercy for him. While Alicent was standing there. Alicent who he befriended almost 16 years ago and is in the series really close with. He safed her children when Rheanyra stromed the captial and let her get out of prison when King tristane was ruling in Kingslanding. She didn’t step forward, she didn’t say a word because the betrayal was too great. She simply can’t. And by this I think as a romantic person he truly realizes he lost this game, he lost her and when Lord Stark askes him if he has something to say to his defense he just bittlerly answers ‚When was a wolf ever moved by words.‘  admitting his defeat.

 He doesn’t want to take the black, he want’s to leave this world for he has nothing to live for and chooses the execution. His love was his downfall.

THIS. IS. SO. TRAGIC. BUT. WOULD. BE. SO. BEAUTIFUL. If they going down that route(and in the series they make him so infatuated and obsessed with her) I will cry my eyes out. Maybe I’m wrong or maybe I’m not.

Let's not forget episode 5 and the fact that Larys is so visibly bored and uninterested in the wedding but then COMES ALIVE when Alicent shows up in GREEN ?? To the point where even Harwin is like 'bro I am speaking to you ?? Bro, are you listening to me ??? She literally took his breath away. And his freakin' face as Viserys asks people to sit down after Alicent enters. People have stopped staring at Alicent but him ? Couldn't stop devouring her with his eyes (I genuinely believe Larys dies if he doesn't stare at her for 5 minutes lol). Simping from day 1. Larys didn't stand a chance here.

OH MY YES!!! That dress was so beautiful and sexy. It made Rheanyras wedding dress look almost plain. I bet Larys didn't even hear what Harwin was gossiping. But turned to him when he sensed him looking and for a brief second he seems to be lost for words. But tries really fast to get hold on himself, describing the meaning of the colour. Something Harwin didn't asked or mentioned in the first place. He was completely mesmerized and infatuated by her. And could not stop staring at her. The girl he feels himself drawn to actually listened to him.

Harwin's like 'Dude something wrong??'

The Larycent scenes in episode 6 were fascinating to me because I was very intrigued by the non-spoken dynamics of their dinner together.

First, is the intimate nature of it. Larys is already dining in the Queen's private chambers when she enters the room. This indicates that they've been having these dinners and private moments for quite some time now. Also, I noticed that the Queen was much more relaxed and comfortable in her interaction with Larys than she has with pretty much anyone else, even her father and children. She clearly don't think he's weird, creepy, or off putting.

She complains about her “day at work” as if they're an old married couple. She shares her truest and most raw thoughts, emotions, and frustrations about the goings on at court with him in such a manner that conveys that he is indeed in her closest confidence.

I was also struck by how she was dressed in her second scene with Larys. She was in a dressing gown when he brought her the news of his family's death. Alicent strikes me as the type of person who would never receive anyone unless she's absolutely “done up”. Her finery is her armor so Alicent being in a dressing gown with her hair undone when receiving Larys is very telling. We haven't even seen her like this with Viserys (in the time jump). Her dressed like that further indicates an emotional intimacy/connection, familiarity and reliability on Larys.

I agree with every part of it. Also the phrase 'her finery is her armor' is a really good catch and I relate this also to the dinner scene where she takes her shoes off before him. The first time I saw this - at that time I didn't know about the fetish - I thought in his pressence she is taking her armor of, showing her true self and beeing really intimate, comfortable and familiar with him. By stripping the shoes of, she - the queen - puts herself on the same ground as the disabled, second son of the hand, regardless of any etiquette and social position. Quite a scandal back in the time and a really stark contrast to the Godswood scene where he offered her an alliance and she (rather dismissive) reminded him very politely that she is the queen and has various sorts of allies. How dare he implying the opposite. But in truth both know she stands alone and her 'allies' are the kings allies. She is an outsider and has no power.

But now that we also know the undressing of feet is in fact a sexual fetish of him, by that this scene gets a different, interesting dynamic. This scene implies that they didn't have just dinner scenes where they gossip and inform each other about the happenings at the court. At this point they already had an inappropriate, intimate conversation about sexual desires and sexual attraction. How else would she know about his fetish and by the way she nonchalantly takes her shoes of, indicates that these explicit conversations happened a while ago.

I do believe he is at that point her closest confidant and friend. And in some sort he is taking the place of her former friend Rhaenyra. But Larys is not her childhood friend but a heterosexual man. Alicent knows this and is not naive. She tries to play the game, she tries to play him. She uses his sexual attraction, his desire to bind him, to move and manipulate him. (In some way she does it later with Cole)

But Larys is like no other. He is the one who all of his life was observing people and seeing behind the fassade. He sees through her game, sees through her manupilation and plays alongside with it. He is the introverted, awkward, disabled second son with a weird but harmless sexual fetish. He wields no power, he is no threat. She can be open around him, she doesn't have to fear him. Give him a bit what he desires, so she won't be loosing his friendship, this alliance. But he is the master of deceit, his frail and powerless appearance is his armor. He makes her believe that she has him under control, making her believe she is playing the game while he is drawing her more and more into his web. And I bet he gets a thrill from it. Seeing the queen, the self righteous Lady Hightower, who as a teeanger had such high standards, such high morals corupting herself more and more. Because deep at heart she knows how to play the game and it's an ugly game.

So when she turns to him doe-eyed asking him if she has no true friends. He finally turns the table. He comes into action and makes his move. He sacrafies his family and in return gets her what she wishes (her dad) and with that gets her more influence at the court and he increases his social position, gaining more power and top of that making her, the queen- indepted to him.

As you pointed out, in the morning after the killing, she stands there in her dressing gown, without her finery, hair undone - her armor is off. Looking vulnerable, fragile and tearful, almost childlike and completely defenseless. Comming to a horrifying realization that she never had him under control, she never really played him, and in truth he was playing her all the time - and by now she is bonded to him in far more a crueller game than she ever imagined. And also him plucking her flower as he says she surely will give him a reward for his 'sacrafies'. And with plucking her flower meaning clearly a sexual reward. At that point the familiar almost innocent 'dinner dates' with I just take my shoes off are over and whenever she needs his counselling or advise she has to give him what he desires. The scene ends with her turning away from him visibly shocked that she was beaten at her own game. While he is looking at his flower with such a longing expression.

I loved this episode so much. And with the little screentime their development and power play was executed quite brilliantly. I do believe he loves her in a Petyr/catelyn kind of way - so nothing normal or healthy. The way he says 'love..... is a downfall' with such a tender voice filled with yearning and melancholy while gently caressing the flower, shows that he desires love but knows about the danger that comes with it. And as he turns away from the flower he is trying to make himself believe that without it your better off. But he can't. And as he plucks it he truely shows what he desires, what he wants.

As for her. I also believe she doesn't mind his disablity and probably doesn't see this anymore. After some time you become blind to things that are normally offputting. She is gentle and caring when she is nursing viserys wounds. There is no disgust at all why would it be different with Larys with whom she is so close with. I don't know if she is sexually attracted to Larys but we know she is playing with his sexual desires knowing during the dinner dates that he will get aroused when she takes her shoes off. I doubt anybody would do that with a person that you don't like or don't feel a bit attraced to. Maybe she gets a bit excited during the dinner dates knowing for the first time she can influence a man. Experimenting a bit. I think she is drawn to his insightfulness, his wit, his charme and cunning nature. These are some things that will probably impress and attract her. She is not a little girl anymore that adores sweet knights from the songs. She knows how the game is played and she knows what she wants. And with him she has one of the best player by her side. I don't think she truly fears him after her killing, kind of the same thing with the unpredictable, killing machine Cole. So maybe something will grow between them in the future. Well I hope so.

Sorry, that was long. But I love both of them so much and can't wait for season 2. :D :D

Well, Larys and Alicent don’t have so much screentime together in season 1 BUT we have to admit that they do have the most intimate, romantic settings.

AND - I’m screaming - their scenes are in fact chronologic stages of a relationship / secret affair.

LOOK AT THIS:

Stage 1 - Get to know each other

First secret rendezvous in the Godswood with shy smiles, gentle compliments and a bit of checking out, flirting / courting going on.

Stage 2 - Date night

Very familar romantic Candlelight dinner, with a bit of gossip, telling how the day went on and a slight striptease.

Stage 3 - Walk of shame / the morning after

Talking to each other in the private bedchambers only clad with the morning robe. Comming to a horrifying realization that this affair is a bit too scandalous and they went a bit too far.

Stage 4 - trying to get in touch again after a short break up

Very noticeable stalking, staring on social gatherings, trying desperately to get in contact again / awkwardly trying to avoid contact because ...well...people are looking. immediately changing the subject when someone asks what the hell is going on.

stage 5 - romantic boat trip for a restart

Rekindle the relationship on a romantic boat trip. Agreeing that the affair will continue BUT now at a fairly slow pace and under the condition that this has to be handled in a very secretiv, discreet matter.

stage 6 - Ongoing guilty sexy nights

Secret, intimate Date Nights in the private chambers with candlelight, a bit of ‘sexy talk’, a striptease and (well, at least) onesided happy end. Added with some guilt and shame because this affair definitely lasts too long, both sides do not intend to break up and people begin to notice.

Bonus for season 2: Change of official relationship status. Not because they were caught but of a different cause. Both of them are now single and ready to mingle. I’m going to hell for this.

BUT GUYS THIS IS NOT THE END

For the extra spice bewitch the dude who is utterly devoted to you because you are actually scared of your obsessive, manupilating lover you can not break off and you need some protection. To only realize this will probably not a good idea because both of them are lunatics.

Despite both of them beeing a hot mess I really like this picture.

It is late at night, candlelights everywhere, both of them facing and leaning towards each other, she showing him not only her bare feet but her legs. 

They even removed her dining table so you have a full view on her spacious bed which is placed between them and is decorated with candlelight on both sides. If you didn’t know the context someone would assume this would be romantic scene. :D

Joke aside, I feel this could be a foreshadowing demonstration of Alicents sacrafices. We know she loves her children and will do anything for them to be safe. There is a risk of war, her father and the counsil working against her, she needs someone like Larys on her side. But Larys is greedy and the price she has to pay now (showing her feet) is relativly low if you think that he commits murder for her, giving her political advise and works against Otto Hightower. So with the bed placed between them I get the feeling that he will demand more from her in the future. He is already  a powerful lord, so she can’t give him gold, or a castle or titles, he has this already. The only thing she can give him is herself and this is something what he clearly seeks. We have to see if she is willing to pay the price.

Just my two cents about the changing interaction between Larys and Alicent.

These time jumps make it hard for me to understand the character development and as a Larycent shipper in particular the changing interaction between Alicent and Larys.

After the first time jump we see them interact the first time during the dinner scene. They have intimate late night dinners, seem to be very close and familar with another and they make little jokes. She takes her shoes off, which indicates that their ‘sexual agreement’ is already going on, to what extend is not known. He also seems to be concerned with her worries and is eager to serve her and make her wishes come true. 

After the killing she looks utterly shocked and devasted. It seems that to this point she didn’t realise  what he is actually capable of. The thing she values the most, the family, is the thing he destroys without any remorse. It seems that she truly sees him now for the first time. He also shares his worldview with her, beeing someone to never asked to speak, probably something he never did with anyone before. He offers her to life with the lie, that it was an accident, the old curse of harrenhal. But she doesn’t accept this, she doesn’t share his worldview ‘no, you passed judgment’. To this he expresses the first threat ‘the queen makes a wish...’ Basically saying we are bond by blood and sacrifice now, if you turn against me I will make sure you are going down with me. He has her in his hands now to which Alicent tearfully turns away in horror. This killing and his threat casts the first rift between them.

As a result I think she tries to distance herself from him to an extend that he attends the funeral of Laena, not because he is acquainted with house Velaryon but because he presumably stalks and watches Alicent and tries to find a way to get close to (to get in favor) with her again. He stares at her so unabashedly that even Ser Criston remarks on this. Maybe I am delusional but I have the feeling that the interaction between Criston and Alicent causes a rivality. Him seeing her who he sees as kindred spirits, the first person who he opened up to, getting close and relying on a person like Criston Cole, a man he can never be, the archtype of an attractive, healthy, strong westerosi man. I think this is the point where his resentment grows. The scene closes with him watching Alicent and Criston. He is smiling slightley but his eyes are hard and cold.

On the ship he finally approaches her. He shows her his compassion for the tragedy and for her suffering, probably the frist person since the incident who feels sorry for her. Standing by her side and watching her closely having a concerned look on his face. If it’s an eye she wishes for he will do it. Saying that he is on her side and he will do anything she wishes for. And then she says she will need this kind of friend in the future his face lightens up the first time genuine smiling at her. Both standing together paralleling Rhaenyra and Daemon.

So after that I was really curious about their next interaction and had high hopes. But after the last episode I was mildly confused. The six year time jump didn’t really help at all. In their first and only interaction we witness an extreme powershift. Larys waits at night in her private bedchambers for her, uninvited. She enters the room feeling tired, worn out and probably beeing an emotional mess. She tells him to leave her alone because it is late and she is tired. But he disobeys and stays. He is determined to get rid of mysaria the second spymaster, who not only spies on them but feeds the information to Otto, who knows about their many meetings and seemingly dismisses it. He not only confronts Larys about his meetings with Alicent, it was also a warning.

But instead of telling her this threat of beeing spyed on in a simple, short way, recognizing her exhausion and sorrow and be done with it, he demands his price bit by bit - he drags this affair on and on  - toying with her emotions. There is no compassion for her loss for her well beeing. No kind words, no condolence. There is a stark contrast to his prior behaviour. She has no choice but to play his wicked game. He has control. He has the power over her and she has to serve him. And she is visibly suffering. Of course he sees and knows this but he doesn’t pay her suffering any regard, instead he gets aroused by it (not only by the feet). At this point he is no friend of hers no ally, she is simply a pawn to be used, also reduced to an sexual object to be used to please his sexual desires.

What is missing is how this turned out to be. Aren’t they supposed to be kindred spritis? His little flower? His mystery? In this scene they focus very often on his clubfoot. It’s Alicents POV. So she focus on his disablity and seems to be disgusted. What if he tried to get close to her (We saw him gently fondling a flower) but she refused his intimacy and rejected him. Telling him the only thing he will get from her are her feet. On the funeral we saw him staring at her full figure up and down not only the feet. So he is attracted not only to her feet but her as whole. In Ep. 9 we swa Alicent and Criston getting really close ‘for everything you feel for me’. Criston Cole the attractive archetype, but unpredictable ,acting without any thought with brute force - choosing him over Larys would be an insult to the cunning mastermind, the Lord Confessor and Lord of Harrenhal..

What if it is jealousy and resentment on Larys part. If you don’t want me I will have you either way. Seeing her now as superfical and shallow. Degrading and humiliating her with no regards for her feelings. And when there was his metaphor: ‘When the queen dies the bee fly without purpose. Beggin the pardon to the turn of phrase your grace’ This wasn’t per accident. It was a threat, a reminder. These are dangerous times, best not to make me your enemy. He speaks seldom but when he does his words are carefully thought out. This phrase felt like a slap in the face for Alicent the queen who should be in power here and clearly has no power over him.

This relationship is wicked and abusive. I am curious how this will play out in the future.
