Rhythm 0, by Marina Abramović, 1974.
It was a six-hour work of performance art by Marina Abramović in Studio Morra, Naples in 1974. The work involved Abramović standing still while the audience was invited to do to her whatever they wished, using one of 72 objects she had placed on a table. Among the props on the table, there were a rose, a book, water, and a gun and a bullet.
I studied Marina Abramović and some of her performances, and this is still one of my favorite pieces of performance art today. It’s an amazing experiment of how far people will go when given the permission, and the humanity of someone is stripped away.
The audience initially was kind to Abramović, but as time passed they became aggressive and violent. She was stripped naked, carried around, and cut with knives. All the while she never reacted as any kind of person. The performance was only stopped (by the gallerist) after a woman put the bullet in the gun and placed it in Abramović’s hand, attempting to see if she would resist the woman. Abramović then became human again, walking through the audience with tears in her eyes. The audience, reconnecting her with humanity rather than object, could not look at her and many ran off, unable to face what they had done.

On this day, 37 years ago, Mayhem released their debut EP, “Deathcrush”. This EP marked Mayhem's first commercial release.
The original pressing of “Deathcrush” was issued by Posercorpse Music and was limited to 1,000 hand-numbered copies. It included two inserts: a newsletter printed on green paper and a coupon/order form for a booklet that was intended to accompany the pressing.
The first edition featured a pressing error, which resulted in the sleeve color coming out pink instead of the intended red.
