Leland Stottlemeyer is a sweet, emotional man who got married very young to his high school sweetheart who he had nothing in common with, and held onto his unhappy marriage for years, until they divorced due to his own insecurities. his longest lasting relationship besides his ex-wife is with Monk, who pretty much bailed on life when Trudy died, it’s established she was Leland’s friend too, and Leland was probably hurting doubly because she had died and his best friend was practically catatonic. when monk’s back he’s changed dramatically from the person he used to be, and he’s initially distrustful and hurt at who his friend has become, but learns how deep adrian’s pain runs and grows to love him again. he rushes into a relationship with a woman that ends up being a killer just because he’s afraid 51 is too old to find a relationship and then when she’s arrested he just goes back to being lonely and lamenting over not getting a date even though he’s a handsome available man with a good steady job. Leland Stottlemeyer is bi, in love with adrian monk and unable to let go of him, and the best character in the show
