Hey, just making sure after that question: I didnt plan on them being multiple individual bees, per say, but a sentient single entity which body itself is made out if this swarm of bees, so they arent individuak beings but parts of something that makes them whole. Would this still mean they cant have the free humanoid body slot with that?

Hi, as stated in our previous answer, you cannot use this power to turn into multiple bees. The ability to turn into a horde, swarm, or any other form involving multiple bodies is considered advanced magic.

If id say I were to create a character, that, similar to lore of so called kitsune foxes (how they start as ordinary foxes, gaining sentience, magic efficiency possibly and ofc getting human form), that is born as a magical hive of bees, that once they lived 100 years with the same queen bee in charge, but eventually turned into an humanoid by the queen absorbing all other hive members, and turning humanish. Could I do this with the freebie human shape, & could they turn back & forth w/ this?

If you have a non-humanoid character with a humanoid form, those forms can only be one sentient creature each. Your character cannot use the free humanoid transformation to turn into multiple bees or anything involving multiple creatures.

Hi there! We're sorry that your commission didn't work out the way you hoped. If you, or anyone else, isn't sure about whether or not an image is appropriate for your character's avatar, feel free to ask the staff. Additionally, just because something doesn't work for an avatar, doesn't mean it can't be used to make other graphics or posted in the character development forums.

We will not, however, be changing this rule. If you have further questions or issues with this (or any other rules) it would be great if you could message us directly. Thanks!

hello pls make gwen’s angsty family. these are all pretty flexible but i they must all be Very Tall and Deeply Full Of Love They Find Difficulty Expressing Properly

HUMAN BROTHER – (taken by stu) trapped in the captive court; taken as a changeling at a young age.

FAIRY SISTER – the replacement for gwen’s human brother, a fae sister who she grew up with. they love each other but do have their differences; the sister is physically stronger than most fae and is a warrior lady. has looked after gwen for years despite also being young at the time their parents left.

HUMAN FATHER – trapped in the captive court. when baby gwen was close to death, her father travelled to the fairy queen’s castle and offered to give himself over if the fairies would heal gwen. he thought it would be good for his wife / the mother because she was desolate at the thought of losing another child.

HUMAN MOTHER – trapped in the captive court. suffered from postpartum depression after gwen’s birth, fearing that she would be taken as a changeling like her son several years before. when her husband offered himself to the fairy queen in return for his daughter’s survival, she was even more distraught. became determined to bring back her son and husband, an obsession that eventually led to her also being trapped in the court, reunited with those she lost but now separated from her daughter.

The avatar is 200x350. There are no other account graphics, but if you want to make more they can be used in the freestyle portion or threads.

In the “Basics” tab we are looking for short answers on everything, not long descriptions.

The top paragraph is a character summary, which shouldn’t be more than 100 words.

“Memoir” is for the freestyle portion of the app, which is optional. If you write at least 400 words of prose you can collect 25 coins from the shop.

Everyone will have a Member Directory thread where you will list your characters and answer a few questions about your RP preferences. This thread will be linked on all character accounts so people can easily access it.

If you choose to take part in collecting and spending coins, your character will have their own shopkeeping thread to keep track.

these are gonna be some MESSY thought so hold onto your hats. might be subject to change on the site itself once I get a full idea of him/where he fits into things but here are just some thoughts I’m kicking around if they spark any ideas!! lmk!

jay comes from lur and is the son of an almost proto-dynasty within the ranks of the library there (or mb one of the noble families? we’ll see). both of his parents are librarians so naturally he went on to become one too. ofc there are rumors of nepotism but he worked hard to get where he is, and he can prove it. so stay in your lane.

not interested in adventuring or literally any of that indiana jones stuff! he just wants to do his research and chill with some books! literally a huge ravenclaw nerd. 

PROBLEM: turns out that there’s celestial influence way back in his ancestry that’s been dormant for just long enough to be forgotten about. surprise! he’s not fully human, he’s aasimar. he’s pretty human-passing, so no one really suspected anything until puberty hit and he started growing feathers in his hair. unfortunate. 

this incidentally made him powerful, rare, and vulnerable, which put him in a unique situation to be taken advantage of. he was taken under the wing of a librarian with a strong interest in medical experiments. lets say jay was half patient/half assistant, tho the librarian had him convinced he was an equal partner in the endeavor. 

eventually this culminated in jay willingly infecting himself with plague in order to further the effects of his natural divine healing magic toward finding a cure. it sort of worked. the experiment carried on until jay realized that the librarian wasn’t finding sick people for him to try to heal, they were picking up orphans and purposefully infecting them so they could control aspects of the experiment 

jay realized the depths of what he was a part of, flipped out, and ran.

PROBLEM: the plague tainted his divine magic and now it’s wonky. he can still use it, but it’s volatile, and he’s just as likely to infect someone as he is to heal them, depending on a lot of factors. wears a mask in crowded spaces because he’s afraid he might be infecting people and not even realizing it, and also because this is fantasy and the aesthetic is KEY. 

is now hiding out from his teacher, who considers him their property, and the library, which has been convinced that he’s stolen something of value (himself, but they don’t know that bit). it’s not good.

In terms of the list of noble families, will we be able to make a character from one if noone has claimed that family yet?

Yes, absolutely! The noble houses of Karstem (and once they’re written up, Lur) are meant to be very loose. As time goes on some of them are bound to develop more and get descriptions, crests, etc. but for now they are purposely blank slates.

I'm working on my last two setting inspo posts and I just noticed the deadly gates in Karstem?? I'm intrigued what is that about? :eyes:

THE DEADLY GATES 

If Karstem’s impoverished live in the sunlit slums, then it can be said the rich live behind the deadly gates. Each upperclass community is gated to prevent those who don’t belong from entering. The farther underground one travels, the more ornate—and harder to unlock—the gates become. In this way even the rich are separated from each other, with Karstem’s wealthiest families living closest to the center of the earth, where the old gods are said to sleep. There are a few reasons for the name deadly gates. The first is that the rich hoard their resources, leading to the deaths of those who cannot afford them. The second is more metaphorical—those living in the gated communities seem to suffer a death of the spirit and heart. The third, albeit sinister, remains unproven: it is said that the gates will be the downfall of the rich, but they are too blinded by greed to see what their folly will cost them.

Update: The Captive Court

Happy Saturday! As we continue to develop this world, Anna & I have made a couple adjustments to the kidnapped court storyline (including changing the name just slightly). The nature of this storyline involves characters who have been taken from their families with no communication, and we wanted to preserve that as it is an important factor behind the Vanasti rebellion. However, we’ve seen interest in playing a character within the captive court, and wanted to revise this storyline to make plotting & participating a little bit easier. 

The original text of the storyline, linked above, is largely unchanged. We’ve made a small addition that should hopefully make things more interesting & dynamic, and provide opportunities for characters within the captive court to communicate briefly with those beyond the fairy palace’s walls. More information under the cut.

[continuing from the original storyline] The Captive Court consists of human changelings and other non-fae who cannot leave the palace. They may work for the Fairy Queen as handmaids, servants, cooks—or may guard the doors to the fairy realm, equipped with the tools they need to keep Vanasta safe from what lurks in that other world. Others still are artists, entertainers, tradespeople. Some even learn fairy magic. The possibilities are limitless, and for those raised inside these walls, it is difficult to know there is an entire world just beyond the doors. But some are sad, even angry, to learn they have been taken from their families, even for a cause as important as this.

Which is why they have begun to break the rules.

Fairy bargains possess a binding magic: both sides must live up to their part of the deal. In Vanasta, this has resulted in a deep cultural respect for deals, even between two humans. To be a changeling is to enter into a fairy deal—one child in place of the other, each raised as if it were your own, with no contact to or from the original family. But some human changelings, out of desperation, have begun to make deals with the fairies inside the palace who are willing to betray the queen. The price is always high, but some would sacrifice anything to send a letter home, or have five minutes to speak with a loved one. Entering a new bargain specifically to circumvent the changeling deal will inevitably have magical consequences, because the terms of the original deal were broken—but for some, the high stakes are a small price to pay.
