Monster Watch is an ongoing project I created while I was still in high school back in 2016. Itās a story told through poetry, drawings, and its comics series. The main characters Kathleen and Soleil hold a special place in my heart.
Itās now been two years since I last updated the comics series.Ā
As much as I enjoyed those three years I worked on the comic, for a long time Iāve been having trouble coming back to work on the story. I realized its because I donāt like where the story currently is. Somewhere near the start of the time I began creating and posting the webcomic, I changed the original direction of the story. While I tried to move the comics along from the old story to the new, I found it becoming more difficult to do with where the comic eventually ended up.
This year I came to the decision that I will start over with the comics. In the meantime, I will no longer update the current storyline. I can still say Iām proud of the work that I did complete even though itās not the exact story I wanted to tell. Iām glad that five years ago I went for writing my first webcomic while knowing it wouldnāt be as great as the story in my head. For that, Iāll leave the original webcomic online. As for Kathleen and Soleil, I still want to share their story. I know it wonāt be anytime soon, but I hope to restart their comic again.
Until then, I probably wonāt put out as much Monster Watch related artwork while Iām redeveloping a main storyline for the comics. However, I will be finishing up the poetry section of Monster Watch with two final poems. Please look forward to reading the written series finale!
Thank you to everyone here on Tumblr whoās supported the original comic. I know MWās audience isnāt as big here, but I appreciate the few of you who have kept up with Kathleen and Soleilās story. Hope to see you at their return!
TL;DR: Gonna restart the MW comics, finishing up the poetry section, Iām so grateful for your support <3
And as a final treat, here is what remains of the last comic I was working on back in 2019. There is a completed script to it, but I decided to just leave the panels blank so as to not spoil the comics before I restart.
āThank you so much,ā
The same worn words from me
I find myself repeating them
Whenever Iām with you
It canāt be right,
Youāre giving me your all
And in return, thereās nothing that
Soothes your loneliness
Having never known someone as kind as you,
My head overflows to the brim with:
I donāt know
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I donāt know
Ā Ā Ā I donāt know
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I donāt know
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I donāt know
And you wonāt admit it but I can tell
Iām no better than a pebble as a person
Barely showing signs of affection or a soul
So for a moment could you stop your heart?
From pouring out time and attention on me
I want to be worthy of your empathy,
Even though deep down I donāt know what that means
You deserve to feel like youāre cherished, too
After all youāve endured with my stubbornness
But nothing I try could make it up,
No matter how hard, I canāt love you enough
Will I be someone who can love just somewhat?
Youāve cried again,
I know you so well now,
Yet Iām at a loss of how
I could lift your sorrow
Itās killing me,
How empty you must feel,
Longing for the same warmth
Youāre drowning me in
Without holding on to anyone for so long,
I asked myself in what ways I felt loved:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I donāt know
Ā Ā I donāt know
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I donāt know
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I donāt know
I donāt know
And yeah, I heard about those five languages
Guess I donāt speak any of them
To be honest, I thought they were made-up crap
So for a moment could you stop your heart?
Itās pumping out light faster than I can breathe
I use to think there was no use for it,
Yet now Iām fighting to keep it in one piece
And here you remain, holding on to what?
I gave up hope that Iām not numb completely
Until I find it, do I have the right to stay?
Until that day comes, I canāt love you enough
To know that wherever you end up
Youād find someone whoād wish to stay near
Never knowing how sweet that must be,
I doubt that moment will happen for me
As much as I like to dwell on these feelings,
The full moon tonight makes me feel selfish for it
Even if mankind is better without me,
I will always look at them through the
Endless love from God
The way they talk and laugh
The way they try so hard
They make up a beautiful world
That doesnāt need me
I like to think of how every one of them
Tuck themselves safely into bed and
Softly fall asleep
I hope their homes are warm,
I hope their heads are clear,
As I lay awake and the moon,
Climbs high through the sky
Goodnight mankind
I finally came to this acceptance:
No matter what I make of myself,
Iāll die alone but at my funeral,
People will gather only out of their guilt
But I know that humans forget such things quickly,
And their tears I imagine spring from my own eyes
Even if I have no place in humanity,
Every other person out there
Deserves to feel loved
The way they cry and scream,
The way they long for peace,
I pray that they will someday find it
Even if I never can
I wonder what everyone is dreaming of?
As I lay awake and my mind
Begs for me to stop
I want to close my eyes,
Never wake up again,
But who Iām leaving in the daylight,
Iām afraid to give up
Just when Iām sure that this will be the end,
I cry my eyes shut and live another night
Even if mankind refuses to be kind,
I canāt help but remember
The few that just might
Our meaningless banter,
Our favorite lunch spot,
Even if itās not forever,
Iāll treasure today
Although I still want to say goodbye,
For now I surrender as the clock meets
Two in the morning
I hope youāre safe in bed,
I hope youāre sleeping sound,
While I lay awake and these last thoughts
Scatter in moonlight
