It kind of fucks with me that somebody killed ötzi the iceman because ötzi himself is like whatever but the silent presence of human hands that drew back the string of the bow that shot the arrow that killed him is crazy. the idea that there were various people involved in that situation and while one of them has had his last hours painstakingly reconstructed and studied to no end, the others now only exist insofar that an arrowhead had to get into his shoulder somehow. imagine killing someone and then suddenly your entire existence is only a vague shadow implied by the fact that you killed them. much to consider

lately i've been thinking a lot about sentimental value by joachim trier, i've watch it twice now and i've seen a lot of discourse around the film, a beautiful discourse of love and i think the edit that's going around with under pressure by queen and bowie kind of sums it up. yet i haven't seen anyone talking about a particular aspect i loved: at the beginning of the narration, the father gustav arrives at the house for the vigil and he sees his daugther nora, but she doesn't see him, she only learns of his presence in the house later on. and that's the base on which everything builds up: he has seen her all this time, he has watched as close as he could even if nora hasn't seen him, in his own way he knows her and that's why he is able to write that script. he is looking for a way to build a relationship between them and he does it in the only way he knows, through an art he has dedicated his life and more.
i'm glad i was able to watch the film twice, because the first time i personally related to nora so much, maybe even too much, yet the second time around i was able to see gustav, to watch him close, to interrogate him and his actions
