Hey. I blacked out and when I came to someone told me it’s my birthday, so why don’t you do something productive today?
hey tizzy here with the stomach flu.
take this time to learn the facts about the coronavirus and combat misconceptions ive heard during class SUCH AS:
-“this coronavirus isn’t new”
the coronavirus has existed for a long time. however, THIS new epidemic is a NOVEL strain of the virus, novel meaning new. as with other viruses such as the flu it evolves, so cures are being researched around the clock.
-“it’ll kill 1/3 of china/it has a 100% mortality rate!”
the coronavirus as of now as discussed by the WHO (world health organization) is 2%, however as newer statistics have been collected the estimated total still falls under 10%.
-“we don’t have to worry about it”
just because fearmongering isn’t the answer doesn’t mean this is it either. the virus is highly contagious and practicing basic hygiene is absolutely essential. the virus strikes hardest at people with underlying health conditions, but there are a ton of complications and avoiding having to go to the hospital at all costs where the virus can incubate in machinery etc. is the smartest move.
_”the virus came from fish, just don’t eat seafood”
it’s strongly believed to have come from the consumption of bats, not a seafood market
-“asians carry the coronavirus!”
soo sick of hearing this one. luckily my school is relatively diverse so i dont get this very much, but stop shitting on asians who have “started” the virus. especially the poor chinese. like the ebola outbreak, chinese people have been everyone’s favorite punching bag, for other asians such as koreans as well.
-“china’s government is constructing hospitals, theyre fine”
no. the ones doing the most work are the poor chinese doctors collapsing from around the clock work, risking their lives only to have their work overshadowed by a government that constantly fires up its propaganda machine. relatives of people who have succumbed by the masses are unable to give their family members a proper burial, as they’re chucked into 24/7 cremation fires like worthless scraps of compost. keep the chinese in mind as corona season comes and goes.
