they’re dancing together.
they’re dancing together and humming along to the background music.
yato feels she’s losing her touch, but she’s still there. her arms are still wrapped around his body, but it’s not as tight as it used to be.
yato knows they don’t have much time anymore. their breaths are still in sync with each other, but it hurts knowing it’s not like it used to be.
“are you okay?” he asks.
“yes,” hiyori’s voice creaks a little. “why wouldn’t i be? i’m with you after all.”
yukine watches from a distance and makes eye contact with yato. yato sees yukine is clenching and unclenching his jaw—he’s on the verge and almost failing to hold them back. yato smiles at him, softly, and yukine retreats. yukine knows too.
“hiyori, are you sure you don’t want to sit down?”
“no, i told you i’m fine, dummy.” hiyori smiles, looking at him through her old eyes. “how do you look so young, yato? so handsome still. so handsome.”
yato is now the one who feels the tears burning behind his eyes. “having eternal youth for a long time isn’t as fun as you think,” yato mutters. he can’t bear to look hiyori in her eyes.
