Summer 2024
You had been told all beings of this sort could not make it this far into the forest.
As children, you and your friend had watched the sky in hopes of catching a glimpse of these winged creatures.
You were taught they were full of malice and hunger, too full of devouring to coexist with.
But this dragon was almost silent as it weaved around the fallen trees, seeming to hover gently, above each fern blade.
It caught your eye, startled a bit, but looked deeper after a moment. A stirring starting in your belly.
Queries bubbled in your throat but before they left your lips, a blink and the creature slipped away into the brush.
