for as grateful as iseul was for all of the things in his life, there was a small part of him that wanted to be invisible. don’t get him wrong, he wouldn’t trade his life, his dream, his career for anything in the world. but there was a small part of him, just a little sliver that missed what life was like before all of the fame. he missed being able to do small things like walking down the street without being recognized, without someone trying to take his photo. these moments seemed to come and go, never seemed to last long, thoughts only popping up when he was tired or stressed.
and tonight, well it seemed to be one of those nights. one of the rare free nights without a schedule or any responsibilities. honestly iseul should be resting or practicing, but for as tired as he was, he couldn’t shake the antsy feeling to just move.
he had left the dorm a few hours ago, hood pulled up over his head and mask fixed firmly on his face. he stayed away from brightly lit and warm cafes that called out to him like a siren calling to sailors to fall on her sharp rocks, but he wasn’t dumb, avoided the heavily populated areas for side streets and back alleyways.
lost with his thoughts and headphones with his favorite playlist on repeat, iseul fails to hear the distant rumbling of thunder warning the city of the impending rain. head lowered, he misses the flashing of lightning over the warm hues of the street lights. so he’s taken surprise by when the first few drops hit his face, hands reaching out to catch a few stray drops. iseul’s given barely a few minutes before the sky opens up and drenches the city in heavy rain.
he makes a break for it, runs for the nearest shelter and finds himself huddling under the safety of the nearest restaurant awning, the lights off and shop thankfully empty behind him. checking his phone, he finds the battery flashing low and settles in against the wall for a long wait until the storm stops. he fails to notice the company he has until it’s scaring him shitless.
looking back changhee wishes he could change some things. like abandoning his family the way he did. he sometimes wishes that he never became an idol. followed what his parents asked of him. but changhee was also stubborn. and in a way he knew he wouldn’t change anything if he was given the chance. he’s too prideful. he likes to imagine what could have happened. the what if’s. he would have regretted not auditioning. but he had set his mind on performing. and he knew no one could stop him. he’d do what he wanted to do no matter who disagreed with him. being an idol wasn’t all that bad. was it easy? no. a soul sucking industry that used you and then threw you out when they no longer needed you? hard maybe.
decipher despite being in the industry for ten years still had a decent work load. they’ve worked to build this image. built a loyal fan base. and too keep that fanbase you had to stay relevant. which would explain the performances that bc had scattered throughout the month.
it was a long day in the dance studio. he could practice 100 times over and their dance instructor still wouldn’t be happy. he was just happy that it was over. he walked out the company inhaling deeply. it was warm out. the perfect weather to walk home. that is until a flash of lighting lights up the sky overhead. as the first drops of rain fall from the sky he makes his way up under an awning. he sighs checking his phone for the time. when he looks up he see’s someone else running up under it. it’s apparent the other person is unaware of his presence. “this awning is occupied.” he says with a semi-serious tone before letting out a chuckle.
there wasn’t much reason for duri to be at the arcade so late at night. but, he decided that it would be a fun time to go to play some dance dance revolution as a different type of work-out, as well as something that keeps his movements and speed up with dancing. it seemed to help him out… or at least, that’s what he was telling himself. nonetheless, there really was something different about the flashing of arcade machines at night, a bit of a nostalgic trip that he often felt.
his smiled grew a bit more as the other agreed to play. “ah, thank you, sunbae!” he responded a bit excitingly. “that’s okay! we’ll do easy songs and you’ll get the hang of it!” he did his best to reassure. it could be a bit tricky at first, but you do get the hang of it, to be quite honest. he leads him to the machine that’s close by and steps up onto it. “do you want to pick a song?”
he was obviously drawn to the arcade for a reason. changhee didn’t believe in fate, but he also feels it wasn’t just a coincidence. most nights he would have turned around without a second glance. and the night he chooses to go in another idol catches him off guard. while some would say it’s just a coincidence he chose to believe it was something more. maybe it was a sign he needed to get to know his juniors better. heck he could get to know his sunbaes better. maybe they’ll surprise him. he chose to be distant. not because he intended to hurt anyone. but because he liked to keep his friend group small. he enjoyed quality over quantity. and gave a piece of himself to those he called his friends. he’s been in the industry long enough to know not everyone has good intentions. but maybe he can start small. open up just a little. he wouldn’t change over night but he could start somewhere.
“i’m trusting you.” he says with a smile of his own. he wasn’t the one to initiate anything, but he’d go along with it. he’s never played dance dance revolution, never had the time. his parents made sure of that. but how hard could it be. he was a dancer. he follows duri to the machine and steps on. “no. i’ll let you pick. i think an expert needs to choose.” he says with a straight face.
changhee needs more threads, so if you want to plot leave a like and i’ll get to you asap. i hope to have a few wanted connections up soon so i’ll update you when i get their.
on his off days and the days he almost needed to shape his dancing up slightly, he would find himself within the arcade. now, that’s probably an odd place to ‘shape up your dancing.’ but, to be fair, the arcade has dance dance revolution and he promises that it really does work to play the game! at least, for himself. so, he had showed up for dance dance revolution this time and not actually for the plushies. okay, maybe at some point he might end up trying to win a plushie, but he really should probably avoid those machines because he doesn’t need anymore.
he was making his way over to the dance dance revolution machine to play a few rounds of the game and hoping beat his own high score. flashing lights of different machines around him, before he comes upon a familiar face. his usual smile widens a bit, “hi!” he greets them. “i’m about to go play some ddr, do you want to join me?” he asked, gesturing towards the nearby machine.
on quite nights, changhee wanders the streets of seoul. he knows the streets like he knows the back of his hand. he’s grown up on these streets. he likes to enjoy the silence if only for an hour or two. today he’s ended up at an arcade with its flashing lights and large gaming consoles. he’s never been a fan of arcades or gaming in general. it made him sad knowing that he missed out as a child. and he would never get it back.
he really isn’t sure why he walked into the arcade. he could have turned around and walked back home, but he didn’t. he’s looking around when someone catches his attention. he recognizes him as an idol under bc, but couldn’t remember who he was. there were so many idols out their it‘s hard to keep up. and if he’s honest he doesn’t really care to remember. “sure.” he replies. “just know that i’m probably no good.”

𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐍𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐄 !!!
“ uh… okay, so hear me out…. i want to do something bold ! ” seungmin puffs out his chest, loud and proud when he slams his fists on the table to stand up tall. well, maybe not tall since he’s only 5′9, but he can at least pretend for a second when he decides this is his chance to finally become more than the horseboy who laughs way too much for his own good. “ like… maybe we can chug seven bottles of vodka, that’s enough… to film our own hangover movie, right ? ” okay, seungmin definitely doesn’t sound certain when he slides back into his seat and turns his eyes away from the person sitting across from him. maybe, it’s just hopeless at this point to breakaway from who he’s been.
with an elbow on his table, seungmin catches his chin on his hand. “ okay… maybe not that bold. but what can i do ? maybe i’ll just get like a nose ring and some tattoos.. that’ll make me look cool when charm comes back soon. what do you think ? ” his lips kinda pout outward, but it’s not some pretend aegyo or attempt to be cute. it’s just that he feels like a loser when he’s twenty-four and the fans still call him out for wearing his naruto shirt religiously in public asking why he looks so off when charm suddenly goes into concepts like hit. so what, he doesn’t get why the public makes such a big deal?
changhee was past the age of feeling forced to be bold. he’s been in the industry for 10 years. at this point he feels there’s no reason for him to even try. he doesn’t see the point really. fans knew what they where getting with decipher. they’ve been in the industry far to long for bc to care about their image. and fans still stick around. “i don’t think that’s a good idea. it doesn’t really match charm’s image. and you don’t wanna stray to far from that image. fans don’t really appreciate it when you do. you don’t have to be flat on your ass drunk to be bold.” he said giving the other man a questioning glance.
“but just so you know being bold isn’t necessary.” he’s seemed to make it 10 years without being particularly bold by any stretch of the imagination. when he first stared out he knew he wasn’t going to change who he was. and fans either accepted that or turned their back on him. he honestly didn’t care. for him being an idol wasn’t about making a good impression or gaining popularity. it’s about having fun. someone failed to mention that being an idol wasn’t always fun. he never cared about changing his image. “if you want my honest opinion i say don’t care about what your “fans” think of you.” he made sure to put air quotes around the word fans. if seungmin chose to be goofy then real fans would accept that. “real” fans don’t care. you don’t need the validation of a bunch of random people. just be you.”
