this is a dash-only, private, independent hades II blog written by lynn ( 20+, she/her ) consisting of the princess of the underworld: melinoë, who is struggling but tries her best. heavily headcanon-based, canon-divergent, and semi-selective with super low activity. minors and personal blogs do not interact.

i. main verse: the shadow of war this verse follows melinoë’s footsteps in her task to slay chronos and liberate her imprisoned family. 

ii. main verse: the aftermath — the moon’s solace this verse is set after the war. chronos no longer wishes to continue the war after a revelation in an alternative timeline. the underworld is liberated, though remnants of his forces linger in the shadows still. as her duty demands, melinoë chooses to remain at the crossroads to ensure the conflict leaves no unfinished threads. 

iii. main verse: the aftermath — the darkness below this verse is set after the war. melinoë retraces her steps to unlock memories of the alternative timeline where she grows up in the house of hades. 

iv. modern verse: the path to the unknown this verse is set in the modern era, which can be branched into different possibilities. by default, melinoë is a fairly young girl who is in her early twenties. different settings will be set accordingly in different universes. 

v. fantasy – mythology verse: the nightmare bringer melinoë is the chthonic goddess of ghosts and nightmares. she awaits at the crossroads, a liminal realm between worlds. she exercises her power in the realm of the soul’s passage. she brings night terrors by manifesting in uncanny forms and can unmoor the mind of mortals.  

vi. devil may cry verse: the lost heir melinoë, the last known daughter of the demon overlord hades who refused to bow to mundus, was born of hades, the demon lord, and persephone, a mortal woman, making the princess a half-demon heir. when hades fell opposing mundus, melinoë was hidden in the crossroads: the liminal realm between demon and human worlds, sealed to all but the hades lineage— a power mundus has sought in vain. as a prominent magic user, melinoë is a force to be reckoned with. she fought alongside her father and older brother, zagreus, as they joined forces with sparda to protect the human world, where her mother resided. but when hades fell, melinoë was separated from her brother, and returned too late to save her mother from the demons’ rampage. now living in the mortal world as a devil hunter, she follows the echoes of old power and broken wars, searching for any trace of zagreus— however fragile the hope— while guarding the crossroads, the last remnant of the once-mighty house of hades.

I was going to get back to writing because i’ve finished my assignments; however, my cat has just passed away in my arms, so i’m not doing well mentally and will take a slightly longer hiatus. I’m very devastated right now and really can’t put energy into writing. I love you guys!!! I hope to see you guys soon.

thinking about melinoë and:

the burning laurel wreath is, in a way, the underworld’s royalty crown, so melinoë is born with it. she can summon it into existence and dismiss it at will, and it can be used as a referrence to understand how melinoë is feeling at the moment. i.e: it flares when she experiences intense emotions (and most of the time, it’s going to be anger LOL are we surprised), or dims when her arcana is depleted, etc.

she received the moon headpiece after becoming a silver sister. like the laurel wreath, she can summon it into existence and dismiss it at will. it is not actually stapled into her forehead (but that would be funny), it hovers there only and is actually luminescent (like a tiny moon!). its light is drawn straight from selene’s radiance, so it is imbued with magic which is especially effective against foes with a weakness to the moon, but this power’s potential depends on the moon cycle. i.e: if it’s a full moon, its potency peaks and may produce special effects other than the normal ones.

tonight had not been kind to melinoë. the same path, yes, but woven with newfound wariness that weighed heavily on a frame not meant to carry it. she had done what she was told with meticulous devotion as any weapon shaped for war would, yet, for reasons beyond comprehension— ones whose uncertainty she resented, the underworld’s heir felt her soul approaching its threshold far sooner than it should have. it was— utterly unacceptable; it was also, unfortunately, expected. the limit of what she could bear held— not by virtue of strength, but because she forced it to— until it didn’t and and she felt it turn on her tenfold. perhaps it was the repetition— the sheer accumulation of familiar faces and familiar burdens, of the same ascent, the same sentence dressed in new hours. perhaps it was the inevitability of failure perched atop olympus, too, patient like a vulture, ready to send her down into the dark the moment she fell short— as she always did. to have duty written into her fate, yet incapable of seeing it through; how disappointing. 

she persisted, regardless, for yielding was not a luxury she was blessed with. she must press on even if her bones threatened to splinter under a satyr’s blade; she must walk the path until the last of her was spent. until she sank on her knees, and let herself be swallowed by the dark where no eyes would pry. such was her calling.  ephyra was finally behind her. but behind meant little in a world that obeyed chronos. another of his forces could manifest at any moment, and the shadows would take her back as easily as breath— dragging her once more into the same ruin she had only just escaped. she made it as far as the pier overlooking thessaly. she knew she would not go much farther. for what it was worth, she could at least let the night end beside the new shade she had been fortunate to meet. ❝ xue. ❞ melinoë called the moment she caught sight of the shade’s tell-tale shadow. immediately, the rigidity set in her shoulders abated with alarming ease. ❝ we meet again. ❞ the way she worded it made such occasions sound like a rare commodity, and in a way— they were. the war consumed nearly all of the princess’s effort to remain her own person, let alone to cultivate anything resembling a meaningful relationship beyond what could be justified, measured, and spent in its service. melinoë dismissed her scythe and finally allowed herself to breathe once xue was close enough. ❝  i trust that the war hasn’t troubled your journey?  ❞ she could only hope.

the crossroads lay tranquil in the gentle solace of moonlight, serene as a held breath.  from where she remained, silver pooled in the seams of broken stone, washing old bloodstains into pale ghosts. witchfire burned low along the markers, not bright enough to banish the dark, only to outline a halo of bespoken warning. even the air felt careful, as though sound itself had learned to tread lightly. here, realities pressed together until they became a singularity. paths overlapped like translucent threads, their directions disagreeing even as they shared the same ground. the boundary between past, present, and future thinned into little more than an idle thought.  such a place was where the nightmare bringer dwelled among the shades of mortals— half-echoes and half-memories that drifted through the crossroads like smoke, lingering where lives had ended and unfinished fears had nowhere else to go. she was their anchor. only that today, she was not alone, but accompanied by makaria’s presence sitting beside her like an inevitability. not warmth, not comfort— something quieter, heavier, with a shared lineage and little else. but melinoë knew the shape of that truth did not warrant makaria’s arrival in a realm that so rarely made room for him. ❝ blessed deaths. ❞ melinoë acknowledged; there was no familiarity to it, and no question either— only protocol. ❝ to what do i owe the pleasure? ❞

melinoë, for someone who prided herself on her absolute discipline, had found it borderline impossible to summon such strength when arashi so much as opened his mouth.  it was— laughably ridiculous to imagine he held this much influence over her composure, when that composure had been tempered, meticulously, to withstand whatever bait he deigned to throw. it was more so when she realised, with mounting irritation, that regardless of whatever means she reached for, arashi thrived on the edge of her boundary, testing the line to see when it would bend to his will despite offering no effort beyond simply existing. no matter. she would not give him the satisfaction of her indignation. 

❝ do not test me. ❞ she barked out at last, both wearily and mirthlessly; her acana coiled beneath her skin restless with intent, but leashed under the weight of will. in earnest, she did not entirely understand what had sparked her animosity to this extent, only that his serene disregard and displaced eagerness always seemed to get under her skin in a way that she did not appreciate. it felt so displaced, so foreign, that the itch to follow through on her threat nearly overwhelmed the last shred of clarity still— fortunately— at the helm. was it his attitude that set her teeth on edge? or the way he welcomed death with an ease that bordered on delight. or was it the far worse possibility— that he was drawing something carnal from her, something she had spent so long denying it had ever existed? her fingers twitched.  melinoë refused to dwell on it any further, and inhaled sharply as though she was drawing in discipline instead of air. ❝ if that was an attempt to unsettle me, it was inadequate. ❞ she said. her brow rose. her patience did not. ❝  if death is what you enjoy, take it to chronos. i can put you to use since you appear determined to loiter here and call it help. ❞

the night was young, and so was the hunt of the former princess. under moonlit silence, the demons laid claim to the illusion of vacancy. they spilled from alley mouths and cracked doorways like rot made animate— clawed shapes that dragged shadow behind them, eyes burning with borrowed malice as their blind ambition let them believe melinoë was but a prey. such pests endured regardless of their masters, unaware of their own pitiful existence.  she did not slow to humour them. her magic shall see to their demise. yet amidst the swarm, something else drew her attention. it was not subtle; it declared itself outright, rolling through the street like a second heartbeat. demonic energy, yes, but not the mindless stench that clung to the creatures she had just severed from existence. it was sharper, older. it said enough on its own as it threaded through her arcana with a familiarity she had not expected to feel again. the phantasmal arm at her side glowed in response as though it, too, had recognised the intrusion. 

❝ son of sparda. ❞ she spoke it like a thing meant to be left behind, yet persisted. ❝ we meet again. ❞ dante stood ahead in the open stretch of street, framed by the dim spill of a streetlamp that flickered as if undecided about doing its job. red coat. careless stance. a blade slung on his back like it weighed nothing at all. even at rest he carried that familiar contradiction: demonic power worn loosely, almost casually, and something stubbornly human beneath it that refused to be ground down. ❝ what a strange coincidence. ❞ she professed, neither warmed nor rattled, though hinted with surprise that was barely there. they had parted ways so long ago that she had been certain there would be no follow-up guaranteed. yet fate, it seemed, always enjoyed its share of unpredictability in a world far too inevitable. ❝ what has the night summoned you for this time? ❞ she prompted, though she was almost too certain she wouldn't be receiving a satsifactory answer on his end.
