The familiar voice echoed in his head and double colored eyes raised up at the exact same time Souma called out his name. That way of talking and that beautiful long hair were enough proof that the person in front of him was no other than Kanzaki Souma, and so Mika’s body seemed to finally relax. They haven’t talked all too much during high-school, but the former member of Akatsuki was so particular, it was hard not to notice him.

“Kanzaki-san? Ya also live here? Talk ‘bout coincidences, huh?” Mika tilted his head to the side and blinked twice. He had seen so many Yumenosaki graduates since his arrival that he was starting to wonder just what kind of fate was bringing them all together to this faraway country “I’m doin’ just ‘kay. Got outta the whole idol stuff, so i’m just studyin’ and workin’ ‘round as usual… How ‘bout ya? Ya still an idol or… samurai?” the last word came out in a really low, almost inaudible tone. Honestly he had always wondered if Souma was some sort of samurai descendent, but at the same time, had been to afraid to ask.

Souma was pleasantly surprised to see one of his former schoolmates here. But it wasn’t something he was particularly against. Perhaps this was some sort of sign, and very quickly tried to think of things that they could be talking about. He was never any good at keeping casual conversation…but he would try his best.

“Agreed! I too have moved on from performing as an idol. I now work at Sea This, the aquarium part time and attend classes to help my knowledge! The journey of a samurai is never over. I continue to train each and every day to hone my skills of the blade!” 

Souma nodded eagerly, looking down at his list and then back up to Mika. He had a mission from Hasumi-dono, and he would need to fulfill his quest. It was nice to see him again, and perhaps they could catch up on his way to the store. “I am happy to see you too are doing well! I have a favor to ask of you! I have been sent on an important quest by Hasumi-dono. Would you like to accompany me?!”

Souma presents Tomoya with a box wrapped in bright yellow paper, with absolutely too much tape on it. "Merry Christmas Mashiro! Please accept this as a token of our friendship. I had to work very hard, but I hope you enjoy it!" (Inside the box is a bunny rabbit outfitted to look like Tomoya's unit uniform.)

How could he refuse when it was clearly visible how much Souma had worked on it? It wasn’t wrapped perfectly but it had it’s own charm. And Tomoya definitely couldn’t do this any better. “Thank you, Kanzaki-senpai. Merry Christmas.” he smiled at the older before unwrapping the box carefully. Unlike others who would literally destroy the wrapping paper Tomoya unwrapped presents quite carefully. 

Once the box was opened he stared at the rabbit for an moment. He didn’t know what to say or how to word properly what he was thinking. The rabbit is so adorable and the outfit made it look even cuter. He couldn’t help blushing as his smile grew wider and wider.

“That rabbit is so cute! I will cherish it and make sure nothing ever happens to it. You worked so hard on it, Kanzaki-senpai. Thank you so much for this wonderful present! I love the rabbit so much!”

Taking it out of the box he couldn’t help hugging it and chuckling softly. It was so soft! He never expected to get such an special present from Souma. Tomoya would definitely take care of it as best as he could! It meant so much to him to receive this unique and special gift.

“Would you like to join the theater club’s little christmas party? Everyone brought cookies and cake, I’d be happy if you would have fun with us.”

I LIVED BITCHEDS. Hey yall it’s AJ back from the faking dead. I have now officially replied to literally everything on my tracker and the starters I hadn’t yet posted replies to. All of my old threads have been caught up and updated. If for some reason, I missed yours. Please feel free to kick me in the face. Thanks for being so patient with me. Between my full time job sucking my soul, taking in somebody, aaaand trying to deal with family stuff...it’s been really stressful. But I’m back now! So I should be a little faster with replying. Snow followed suit, watching as the turtles seemed to know that they were coming. He couldn’t help the sweet smile that came over his face, and he nodded in agreement.

“Indeed they have.” He also grabbed some of the food and put it in there for them. “They really are… I too could watch them endlessly… They are really the best.” He wasn’t one to say things like that often, but it was true! They were the absolute cutest sea creatures ever, if not the cutest creature all around.

Souma watched Snow feed the turtles with ease, and the samurai watched intently as the turtles swam happily toward their lunch. They nibbled and munched, and coasted through the water.

He wasn’t sure what to do with the rest of his shift. It was almost over from what he remembered since he only worked here part time anyway. “Snow-dono, what do you plan to do with the rest of the day? I believe all of my duties have been fulfilled for my shift.”

Kuro couldn’t help but reach out and ruffle the kid’s hair. No matter what, Kanzaki would always be a spunky, bright eyed little kid to him, not that it was bad or anything. In fact, it was encouraged. If Souma wanted to stay with them… That was even better, honestly. Hasumi and he both loved him with all their hearts, even jokingly giving him the title of their son.

“Of course. It’s hard to learn on your own. I had my mother to help me, so it’s only natural that I teach you as well.” That’s right, from parent to child. Natural. “Your greatest foe? I’ll teach you how to wield it and use it to your advantage. You’ll have fabric begging you to work it.” Ah, that sounded like Itsuki, didn’t it? Either way, he opened the doors, and he headed towards the back.

“So… What sort of outfits are you thinking?”

Souma was so quick to run inside that he sort of forgot what he was even supposed to be doing. He knew that he needed fabric for outfit designs. But he had absolutely no idea where to even begin. Where did one start with these sort of quests? But with the aid of Kiryu-dono, Souma was certain he could conquer this challenge!

His eyes scanned around, taking out his notebook where he had written some notes for himself to remember this very important job he put himself to. When he was posed the question, Souma looked over his notes again. There must have been something in there. He knew he had a couple ideas. “Ah! I was thinking…something traditionally styled in combat. However! I wanted to take a different approach to make things interesting! But I do not know where to start! Red?”

Ruby-dono:

“Thanks! You’re just as good as they say~” Ruby takes great pride in her weapons wielding, and she was flattered with the compliment, so she returned one of her own towards him before proceeding the battle.

So far her senpai managed to have blocked off all of her counterattacks without much effort. He did a good job keeping up her pace so far. But who says that she’s already been using the full extent of her speed? It seems like she wasn’t the only one holding back though…

She can tell that he’s purposely aiming for her sword, making them easier for her to block. I mean, sure this is supposed to be just a friendly spar, and no one is supposed to get hurt from it…but perhaps he’s trying to test to own strength? Right now she’s still mostly just on guard stance, trying to endure all of Souma’s attacks.

Is he trying to see how long she can block him off?

Luckily Ruby also has more than enough stamina for that, but staying on the defensive isn’t going to get her anywhere. When his blade drops down on her once again, Ruby opted to evade it this time. In a split second, the young rose adjusted the hold of her katana, swinging it right towards his neck. Only to stop just mere inches away from him…

“I guess this is one point for me?” She said with a cheeky grin.

It was clear to both of them it seemed, that they were both holding back their true power and potential. This was a friendly match, but the competitive spirit was beginning to take him over. After he had miscalculated one of her swings, it landed just shy of his neck. And he was quite impressed with her abilities to predict the movements of her opponents.

The samurai nodded, letting the blade lax in his grip. He smiled softly, bowing after she had retracted her blade. “Well done, Ruby-dono. That will be one point for you. However, I think both of us are very well aware that this isn’t the extent of our abilities.” Things would get serious for Souma now, as he was not going to be bested so easily.

He adjusted his stance, ready to go on the offensive this time. He wanted to show her the extent of his samurai training. His techniques were not well suited for defense, as he was usually an aggressive opponent but wanted to not overwhelm her. It seemed he had misjudged, and would do well to show her his true power. “Let us begin the second round then! Chesto!”

Of Swords and Rabbits

The reassurance of the older was enough to make Tomoya feel better. He wasn’t going to bother him, it was everything it needed for him to get rid of those negative thoughts. Of course Souma had offered him to join his training but sometimes the first year couldn’t help but thinking that others would only do it because they feel sorry. But to know that Souma was willing to help him like this made everything better for him. He had to thank him properly! Maybe bringing a bento for him to training or something similar.

He smiled at him, leaning his head on his hand. He listened to Souma’s words and smiled even wider. The older managed to motivate him more and more with his words, that he was sure not to get disappointed by him, it was the first time someone besides Nazuna had told him this. And it made Tomoya very happy. “Thank you so much, Kanzaki-senpai. I feel a lot better now. You really know how to motivate others. If you believe in me I am sure I will find my own special talent!” 

The pain was almost forgotten as he talked to the second year, yet whenever he moved the foot a little it started hurting again. Though, it wasn’t enough to keep him sitting there forever. Tomoya wanted to continue the training with everyone. Shaking his head he stood up, smiling as it still did hurt. “No, no. It doesn’t hurt anymore, see? I can already stand up again. That’s because you helped me so much, Kanzaki-senpai. But I don’t want to distract you any longer from training. It would be bad if we slack off too much.”

Souma was relieved when Tomoya seemed to stand on his own with little difficulty. It wasn’t unheard of to get hurt at a practice, but it was usually nothing serious. The samurai had sprained his ankle once turning too quickly in the wrong direction once or twice. Of course he set to train vigorously for his error, even when Hasumi had insisted he stopped for a moment. Which of course he had to.

He stood beside Tomoya, making sure to be close by in case it gave out on him again. Falling on it would only make the healing process longer. Souma knew that from personal experience. “I’m very glad that it has seemed to get a bit better! I agree, we must return to the others and continue our practices!”

Souma was a hardworking and determined individual, and he took after Keito like that, overworking himself to the point of terrifying. He hummed for a moment, nodding. “We will find your talent and make the rest of the practice well and completed! There isn’t a second more to waste!”

Before long, Souma was straight back to getting back into his practice rhythm, keeping an eye on Tomoya as he did.

Hiatus Notice

Hey guys, I haven’t been around much for a variety of reasons. 

So first of all EnStars killed me this last ten days with the event. I mean I lived but I’m exhausted. I’m dealing with a lot of things back home and it’s draining me. I can’t find the motivation to write and I need to step away for a while. To not be stressed about writing. I’m sorry about my absence. Life is getting incredibly difficult to balance. And this is supposed to be my hobby…the thing I do when I want to escape stress from the real world. That being said, everytime I think about writing, I have another stress episode because I feel overwhelmed.

Snow couldn’t help the gentle smile that grew on his face. Souma seemed really nice, and he liked turtles just like he did, it seemed. Well, maybe not AS much, but he couldn’t yet tell.

“They really do look energetic today.” Snow agreed. “They are ready to eat… Not that I blame them.” He was about ready for lunch as well, but that would happen later, after the sweet turtles fed. He got up to the top of the tank, and he crouched down to stare at them.

“I agree, I could use lunch myself. However, that can wait for just a bit longer.” Souma was quick to grab food for the turtles himself and crawl up on top of the tank. This was one of his favorite parts about working in here. Humming in content, he simply watched the turtles swim about for a moment before one of them noticed both of them on top of the tank and stared. It must have known it was feeding time! They were so smart!

“They have spotted us with lunch.” Souma laughed a little, opening the lid to the tank and stuck his hand in there, just a bit so he could drop the food as to not get his hand almost bitten. He had made that mistake once…never again. “They are…such smart creatures! I could watch them for hours and never be bored.”

Kanzaki was still so innocent. That was good, it warmed his heart to see him like this. He walked quietly, his hands resting in his pockets as he listened to all that the samurai had to say. Ah, yes, Hasumi was almost like a god with that paperwork of his. He was somehow able to tell forwards from backwards even when engulfed in the sea of white that was paperwork.

“Graduating?” The question caught him off guard, ad the delinquent had to think about that question for a bit. “Ahh,… I guess it sorta feels like a birthday? Like, nothing much changed but… A lot more is expected outta ya.” Wow, that sounded a little depressing huh? “Ah, but it’s a good feeling. You completed another chapter in your life, yanno? You’re done being a kid, and then you can move on to bigger and better things.”

Souma hung onto Kuro’s words at every single syllable. He needed to take in the advice and guidance to its fullest. Admittedly, he was rather terrified of graduating. It always seemed depressing and hard to let go. He could still remember the compensation festival. He steeled himself away for a long time, trying to process the gravity of the situation. He had missed them a great deal since they left Yumenosaki. However, he prevailed in their honor.

“I understand. Then I will be ready for the newest chapter of my life when I have finished reading this one.” Souma paused again, taking in more and more of what those words meant. Perhaps he could still keep his second family. The samurai grew quite attached to both of his seniors. Before long, their walk had led them toward the fabric store. “I am glad that you will still give me guidance on things I don’t understand. I will take these new challenges in stride! Ah! I had almost forgotten why I had come here…the fabric. The newest step awaits us Kiryu-dono! The war with fabric and design, my greatest foe!” Without wasting another moment, he was bounding inside, ready to conquer the fabric that lined the walls and tables.

Mika sighed and blinked slowly, double colored eyes focusing in the pretty handwritten list of groceries on his hand. There was still a lot he wasn’t used about of living in this city -or in Riverside Flats to be more specific- but he wanted to show his gratefulness to Yaoyorozu for allowing him to stay with her. And if for that he had to go to the mall and get some groceries then he would!

Not wanting to stay out for too long, he advanced down the hall, brisk in his steps. He should have paid more attention to his surroundings, because his hasty steps took him to almost crash with someone. Barely managing to avoid the collision -and noticing the other person was a man with a sword on his waist (A SWORD?) Mika retreated and squealed, promptly covering his face with his hands.

“Awawa, I’m sorry! So sorry! Didn’t meant to crash onto ya or anythin’!” Hardly even looking at the other as he was trying to hide his eyes from a direct stare, Mika was completely unaware that he actually knew the person in front of him

After a rather interesting discussion at the shared apartment of all three former Akatsuki members, Souma listened to Keito talk about what he needed at the store with little time to do it. He was always one to overwork himself, this Souma knew well. So he had offered to run the errand for him, providing that he gave the young samurai the grocery list.

More bickering and arguing ensued, until eventually Keito relented and let Souma take the list to fetch the apartment a few odds and ends. Some cleaning supplies he could find at the grocery store, but mostly the list was comprised of food Keito wanted for the meals that week. Tasked with his mission, Souma nodded and was bounding out of the apartment.

Without really watching where he was going, as he usually did while he was oblivious and hyper focused on his job, Souma ran into someone. He was a bit dazed for a few moments, shaking his head to clear his mind, he looked up to see someone he thought he recognized. Staring just a bit longer, that voice made it all the more clear. “Ah! No, I was not watching where I was going.” He paused, clutching the list in his hand. “Kagehira-dono?! Is that you?! I did not realize you lived here as well! How have you been as of late? Our paths have not crossed since graduation…strange since we live at the same place.”

As soon as Souma took of towards her, Ruby was quick to get into defense. The sound of metal against metal resounded through the courtyard as their blades collided.

As she had expected, his strike felt much more powerful due to him being a guy with a larger build than her. Ruby may be small in comparison, but that wasn’t enough to knock her over.

Her lips curve into a smug grin as her silver hues gazes deeply into his lavender ones. She can almost see the flames of excitement burning within them

Immediately she parries his blade away and counterattacks.

Souma was impressed by her skills as a blade wielder. While she may not have been as strong, she made up with speed. The quickness of her movements were enough to keep him forever on his guard, even while on the offensive. And it was a valuable skill he wished to hone.

Their eyes are both burning for the heat of battle, since Souma could never seem to find someone to spar with. Now…it was different. As his attack was blocked and then parried, he was quick to catch that grin upon her features. She may have blocked his first attack, but there would be plenty more coming.

Her counterattack was swift, and his hand twisted the blade to raise his arm to block her incoming swing. “I am impressed, Ruby-dono!” He called, the heat of their spar beginning to overshadow the friendly competition. He could tell it could very well get out of hand, but he was never one for quitting until the job was finished. Souma side stepped, his blade coming down to strike hers, the metal clanging once again through the mostly quiet courtyard. He was testing her skills at fighting off stronger attackers. It was a skill she would need in real combat.

I wonder what Alfred would think of this man. He’s probably not the kind he’d call some rude name, and I would agree with him on that, I suppose… Kiku found himself smiling at the words of the samurai, whose name he now knew. The people he usually spoke to as he wandered the crowded metropolitan mess that is Tokyo were people of high position, and their formal conversations involved solely business and suggestions and such… It was nice to have a normal, informal conversation with someone, perhaps even befriend that person.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Kanzaki. Of course! My name is Kiku Honda.” Souma wasn’t a name Kiku ever really heard, but he glossed over it. “That’s quite all right, you might gather that I prefer to live in ‘seclusion’, as you described it. It might interest you to know that I, too, have practiced the way of the sword, for a long time. What about you, Kanzaki?”

It was like he was talking to someone in his own family. The few friends he did have didn’t understand his rough nature or his rigorous training schedule. But maybe they did but never understood it’s importance. He couldn’t be certain on any of those things, but there were things he did know, and that this man…Kiku was someone he could relate to. He seemed well versed in the art of the blade, and Souma wished to know what he knew.

“The honor is mine. The peace and quiet is something I miss. It’s part of why I enjoy training so much.” Souma gave a light chuckle, but still as rigid as he always was. “Ah! I thought you may be a swordsman as well. The way of the samurai has run in my family for many generations, and I wished to follow in their footsteps. I train myself every day to keep my skills sharp, ever since I was old enough to hold the sword myself. How many years have you been wielding?”

((After what feels like a century, I’m back from vacation. I was going to be back Tuesday but I came back with a freaking sinus infection lmao. So I got knocked on my ass for an extra four days while I waiting to recover. My head no longer feels like it’s ready to explode so I’m actually writing now. Thanks for being patient with me. Oh… He was the man with the food for him. His face turned a little red, and he nodded slowly. “I see.” He looked at the bucket in question, and he looked back up at Souma after a few seconds.

“It is nice to meet you, Souma.” he bowed his head a little. “My name is Snow… Valrin.” He hesitated to give him his last name, but no one here knew the Valrin name. It was good and fine. He offered a small smile to Souma, and he nodded. “I do not work here, but I volunteer as often as I can. This is a little far from my home.”

He really wished he worked here, Either way, he started walking to the door that led back to the feeding area, opening it for Souma before following suit.

“I think they are rather excited today,” Snow pointed out, looking at all the turtles swimming around curiously.

A frequent volunteer…that is why he had seen him before. Souma held the food in his hands, finally closing the distance between them. He didn’t notice at first, but Snow had mismatched eyes. How peculiar, but he didn’t say anything. Nodding to him, Souma followed into the next room, bowing his head as thanks for holding the door for him.

“Ah, Snow-dono, it is nice to meet you. It’s nice to see people wanting to volunteer to help here. I think the animals like all the caring company as well.” Souma handed snow a few plants to feed to the creatures he had grown so fond of. “They do look excited today. I think they have been having a good few days. I love seeing them so full of energy and life. It is one of my favorite things”

Someone training, here, and at this hour? How… strange.

Kiku spent most of his day in the city, working, shopping, conversing, walking… it was nice to escape it all, if only for a while each day, each week, each month, every year… So, he made his abode outside the metropolitan area, by the forests near Mt. Fuji itself. Only a thin, rarely-trodden path led that way. So it was a pleasant surprise — yes, pleasant, no mistake — to see someone there.

He noticed the sword as he approached and waved, smiling back at this purple-haired man. “Of course it is. What brings a person here, today? This happens to be the way to my house.”

Souma enjoyed the seclusion of this path, since he never saw anyone up here. Well that was true until today. Perhaps this stranger enjoyed the long walk and the peace and quiet of this place. But as the man spoke, the samurai was a bit surprised. He lived up here. Perhaps he should consider moving his training grounds if he was indeed trespassing.

“My apologies, I didn’t realize that this was on the way to your home.” He took a moment to collect his thoughts, but offered a small and friendly smile. “I tend to train myself in my mastery of the sword in seclusion such as this place. My name is Souma Kanzaki. May I know your name?”
