Drabbles under the cut, featuring Sukuna teaching Uraume classical Chinese
They were walking around the capital when Sukuna insisted once again to teach them how to read and write in classical Chinese and frankly Uraume wasn’t having a good time. As a servant, they don’t see the importance of learning the language of the nobles. But what choice did they have when they were serving a man with a passion for literature.
“But Sukuna-sama..”
Sukuna crossed his arms and waited. Uraume understood he wouldn’t take a no for an answer lest they started to translate the poem in their mind. They avoided his gaze because really, the task was already stressful and his stare was adding to the pressure.
“How about this,” Sukuna hummed as he thought. “In every wrong word, there will be punishment.”
“W-what?”
“I am trying to help you here.” as if that lifted their burden. “You wouldn’t want that, correct?”
Uraume’s mind went back to the past punishment they received from him. There wasn’t much. Aside from the time he ignored their existence after they mistakenly threw themself in danger in a fight with the Fujiwara sorcerers.
It happened a few months ago and Uraume admitted they were at fault there. Sukuna always reminded them to be cautious of their temper during battles, saying if left uncontrolled, it would jeopardize them. But his lesson was dumped out of the window when some idiot disrespected their master, causing them to attack without thinking and resulting in a head injury. Sukuna was of course quick to come to their aid but not without a barrage of scolding.
Come to think of it, it was the first time he raised his voice at them. The incident was then followed by silence, mostly from Sukuna’s side as he ignored Uraume for the rest of the week. It was torture to be treated like nothing by the man they love the most. Unbeknownst to them, Sukuna felt the same. It was definitely harder for him to punish Uraume like that.
Uraume racked their brain and breathed out before reciting:
huā fēi huā
wù fēi ..wù
yè ….bàn lái
“.........”
Sukuna tried not to chuckle and keep an impassive face. Part of him felt bad but it was also amusing to watch Uraume struggle especially when they blush. The pinkish glow of their cheeks complemented their magenta eyes.
“tiān míng qù… umm,” they continued and bit the side of their cheek. Crap. They couldn’t form the last two lines of the poem. Was it lei or lai ? Or was it entirely different?
“Well?” Sukuna tilted his head to the side.
“No, I mean, I am thinking if it’s-”
“Hmm?”
Sukuna moved closer and closer until he got in their personal space. All the while, Uraume was questioning his actions and was that a smirk?! Their master appeared to be enjoying their struggle a little too much. Uraume wondered what kind of punishment would he give this time. Wait, was this the punishment?! Now their faces were inches apart. Uraume held their breath, screaming inside and unable to think anymore. His eyes were on theirs then gradually turned to their lips. What the hell is going on?
For them, he continued:
“lái rú chūn mèng jǐ duō shí
qù sì zhāo yún wú mì chù”
He spoke the foreign words with finesse like it was his first language. They had heard him do that time and time again yet every time, they were always left in awe of his intellect.
Sukuna leaned forward and swiftly, Uraume raised a hand to cover his mouth.
“S-S-Sukuna-sama…?”
They stayed in that position for a few seconds before Sukuna became self-conscious. There were a group of chattering women passing by when he stepped away and continued on his stroll.
Uraume stood there in silence, hand on their chest trying to calm their racing heart. They sighed, unsure if it was because of relief or disappointment. The latter thought had them questioning and cursing themself.
“Uraume.” Sukuna called and they hurriedly followed him with the blush still present.
As they walked, Uraume looked at their palm, the one which touched his lips earlier. Surely their master could be hard to read at times.
Nevertheless, Uraume watched his back and smiled, placing that same hand close to their heart.
No because the Sukume father/child bullshit STILL upsets me!
it's so irritating. They can't stand the idea of it being a canon queer ship. No, they refuse. It's so mindnumbing too. Like, whatever if that's what you want to think go for it but the hate shippers are getting is insane NEITHER OF US ARE RIGHT! As far as we know, the ending only confirmed they're close friends.
I choose to read Sukunas dialogue as him excepting trust, love and loyalty represented by Uraume. Someone who has always been with him, and showed love through their devotion, acceptance and presence. Over Lust, power and obsession represented by Yorozu.
Yorozu 'fell in love' with Sukuna at first sight, and I personally do not believe in love at first sight. She saw a powerful man, attractive, and she became obsessed. Obsessed with the concept of him, the idea of him returning her feelings. She did not truly love him.
Uraume, despite us not knowing how they met, we can see how they show their love through small and large actions. There is a built trust between them, because Uraume got to know the real Sukuna. They cared about Sukuna, not just the king of curses but Sukuna. The bond they built together was strong, Sukuna clearly trusted Ume (he even gave them one of his fingers to look after, a piece of his soul) and even if he never acknowledged this trust as care or love, he still valued their presence.
Now about the father/child dynamic, I genuinely have no clue how they got that. Like Daddy issues aside in what world is Sukuna a fatherly figure? He can't even be an uncle let alone a dad! And Uraume has never been depicted as a child or childlike or young. They've been shown as a calm young adult. In their vessel body and even their original hein body Ume has consistently been shown to be at the very least a young adult. It's simply a size difference.
What's also strange is how before the final chapter, people were going bananas over their size difference and sexualizing it, or just sexualizing Uraume in general. The fandom has been sexualizing Uraume to hell and back- 'sukuna dickrider' jokes, or 'Uraume and Hakari getting freaky' jokes but suddenly it's wrong and 'Uraume is actually a child!' literally what.
I think a part of it is Ume being confirmed amab and homophobic jerks can't sexualize Uraume anymore since they're 'a boy' to them so they defaulted to child.
Someone even called Uraume a Loli on TikTok, like you're delusional in what world is Uraume a Loli.
Anywhoo I adore Sukume. I don't usually do ship wars or ship discourse, I don't even care if people don't ship Sukume. I'm upset at people, innocent shippers having fun with a ship, getting called proshippers over a head canon they created.
It is NOT confirmed that Sukuna and Uraume are romantically involved. It is NOT confirmed that Uraume and Sukuna have a family dynamic. What IS confirmed is that Sukuna cares for Uraume, and chose to walk into the afterlife with them. That's it. They're friends as far as we know.
