“I’m going to be staying here for a few more nights. Nathan wants to come up here to visit the city too. He wanted to surprise me with a trip but realized that one date he had planned for us, he kinda needs me to be here so we can use the tickets he bought.” Nieve said, glancing to her sister as the two cooked their own dinner for the night. It had been a few days since Rayos confronted Nieve about her strange actions, but since then the two sisters continued on as normal. Rayos did keep an eye on Nieve whenever she was home, noting small things on the girl that did that she hadn’t done before. It was like she would enter a bit of a daze sometimes but snapped out of it quick.
“Nathan is not welcome to stay at my place too, you know that right?” Rayos muttered, cutting her chicken into small chunks.
“Yeah. I know, I know. Is it alright if I still stay here though? Nathan got a cheap motel and I do not want to spend even a minute inside.” She shivered and Rayos sighed.
“Yeah.. So long as you don’t bring him over here when I’m out for work or something.”
“I won’t. Promise.” Nieve gave Rayos a little grin to which the younger girl only sighed before giving her own little smile. That’s when a phone pinged and Nieve wiped her hands off on the kitchen rag before pulling her phone out. Her grin grew wider and she looked over to Rayos.
“Are you sure you don’t want to come to a party with me? My friend knows the bouncer at a new club downtown and she invited me out tonight! We were lucky to get in the first time but her cousin is working tonight so he’ll totally get us in! C’mon Rayos!” Nieve exclaims, grabbing her sister’s arm. She shook her head quick, grabbing her salad bowl that she made.
“Yeah.. no thanks. I need to finish some designs for work anyways. Just call me when you want me to pick you up.” Rayos didn’t have to think twice about that invitation though Nieve gave her an infamous pout but added in a bit of a puppy eyed look and a whimper.
“Stop that. That’s weird and gross...” Rayos shook her sister off, heading to her small living room and sitting on the couch. Nieve groaned and followed her though didn’t sit.
“Fine whatever. I’m going. I’ll be late though, so I’ll catch an UBER or something tonight. I’m just saying, you’re gonna regret not going. It’s so cool there. They have some funky lights, the best drinks, y la música?? Ándale! Vamos!” She had this burst of excitement at the mention of the club and Rayos was weirded out by how the place made her get.
“I’m not going. That’s it. Go and get ready, I’ll clean up the kitchen later.” Rayos was adamant on staying and Nieve soon retreated back to the room to start getting ready, this evident by the loud music the girl played and sang to.
It wasn’t much before she emerged from the bedroom again, wearing her usual party attire. “Last chance. You sure you don’t wanna come?” Nieve asked as she fixed her dangling earrings. Rayos shook her head ‘no’ and Nieve rolled her eyes.
“Fine. You’ll regret it later... Mind dropping me off?” Nieve asked, meeting Rayos’ sharp gaze. “I’ll give you gas money...”
Rayos pulled up to the loud club. They had spotlights on the outside, a long line of people waiting to get in, and a group of five people looking for the Latina dressed in white.
“Right here! I’ll text you when I’m ready. Thanks so much for being the best DD!” Nieve tossed a $20 in the car cup holder before swinging the door open. The music was loud and it made Rayos jump at the sudden sound filling her car. The music was strange to say the least, nothing how she imagined it to be based from Nieve’s talks from it. But it was sokn muffled again when her sister slammed the door shut and took off running to her group of friends.
“That music is-“ Rayos shook her head and drove off, her mind still on the beat as she headed back home.
