left  because  of  a  girl,  she  asks.  it  causes  a  dry  chuckle  from  nick.  “ that’s  a  complicated  question. ”  he  shakes  his  head,  not  knowing  where  to  start  with  this  answer.   avoiding  anything  that  would  cause  a  huge  reaction  from  the  tribrid,  he  says,  “  kind  of  both. ”  he  starts,  mocha  eyes  meeting  with  hope’s.  “ she  just —  i  did  something  really  dangerous  for  her,  it  took  me  a  while  to  get  back  to  being  myself.  &  to  be  honest,  i’m  not  really  all  there  still. ”  the  warlock  still  has  nightmares,  intense  ones.  sometimes  nick  swears  he  can  still  feel  lucifer  inside  of  him,  a  burning  sensation  he  thought  would  never  go  away.  maybe  being  here :  at  the  salvatore  school,  could  help  him.  they  practice   ( weak )   light  magic  here,  anyhow.  nothing  demonic  would  happen  here,  right ?  god  knows  he  needed  a  break  from  demons. his  eyes  move  to  her  fingers  wrapped  around  the  pedant  on  her  neck,  noting  a  fancy  written  m  crested  in  the  center.  most  likely  standing  for  mikaelson.  it’s  then  hinted  something  happened  with  her  family,  something  she  wishes  she  could  fix  but  couldn’t.  probably  why  she  asked  him  the  second  half  of  the  question.  (  because  she  had  similar  experiences  ?  )   maybe  they  were  more  similar  than  he  originally  thought,  but  he  wouldn’t  ask.  it  was  too  soon  to  share  trauma  &  he  knew  how  annoying  it  was  when  others  begged  &  pried,  always  wanting  to  know  every  detail.  it  was  like  they  thrived  off  of  other’s  pain,  grateful  they  didn’t  go  through  the  same  thing.  as  if  they  could  understand,  when  in  reality  they  couldn’t.  but  maybe  hope  mikaelson  could  relate  &  it  makes  him  feel  slightly  better,  finally  feeling  like  he  had  someone  to  relate  to.  a  weak  smile  is  returned  and  he  presses  a  palm  on  the  shiny,  silver  counter  top.  “ and  you  finally  have  a  friend  that  won’t  pry.  of  course,  that’s  me  assuming  everyone  here  wants  you to  constantly  talk  about  your  feelings. ”  his  nose  scrunches  quickly  before  he  lets  out  another  chuckle.

hope scoffs in disbelief, mostly surprised at the assertion. nick is somehow already wise to hope’s feelings being the focus of every conversation surrounding her - aside from the weekly bombardment of monsters that had been routinely sent their way. she listens to the vague explanation, needing no further details to know that whatever it was he ran from was still affecting him. deeply, at that. her head tilts in sympathy, eyes falling to the counter as she basks in his words. maybe she bore more similarities to the transfer kid than she had originally given him credit for. it takes her a moment to think of the right thing to say. “ i think talking about feelings is overrated. ” she follows up with a passive smile, forget-me-not colored irises finding courage to finally look into his. fingers reach for the apple in the center of the bowl of fruit, pulling it to her lips before she takes a bite, beginning towards the hallway, glancing over her shoulder to make sure he follows. “ so ... what do you think of the place? ” an eyebrow raises as the two approach the railing of the second floor. hope glances out over the common room, the fireplace lit in the center as students mingle amongst themselves. she waves to mg in the distance before returning her attention back to nick. “ i know it can use a little work, but ... not bad for a temporary home, right? ” temporary home. after all, that’s what this place is, right? her home is new orleans. the french quarter - her aunts and uncles, family dinners, and beignets fresh from her place of choosing. yet she stares at her classmates - lizzie, josie, kaleb, mg, even jed - and can’t help but feel a tug at her heartstrings when the thought of eventually leaving is fresh in her mind. “ who knows? maybe you’ll learn something new. ” hope raises an eyebrow, well aware that the dark magic he practiced seemed better to him than the options given here. but she wasn’t a stranger to dark magic. and he was sure some of the other students - like josie - might surprise him.
