Archie had been trying to make sense of his Algebra packet. He had just finished the evaluating expressions parts (and he really hoped it was correct, he would have to ask Betty to check for him), and now had moved on to the wonders of combining like terms to simplify an expression. Okay, so 2n and 3n are like terms, but 4x and 3y are not because their variable factor x and y are different. He might as well be reading Latin because the jock was kinda lost. Why were numbers and letters getting along now? When did that happen? He was growing frustrated, trying to decipher what his first move should be when an outburst of exasperation (that the redhead could sympathize with completely) interrupted him, making him look up at Moose. âDude, if you drop out, that means no football. No football means no scouts, plus the team canât afford not having you out on the field. And we still have to crush those Baxter High Ravens, and take state from them, so⌠What are you working on?â
Mooseâs eyes followed the direction of Archieâs voice at the other side of the table. Heâd been so consumed in trying to understand the material, heâd forgotten that he was in study hall and speaking out loud. He exhaled knowing Archieâs speech by memory. Hell, it was the same one everyone gave him whenever things got complicated. âYeah, I know. Iâm just kidding.â Moose responded, reaching for this book and sliding it back. âEconomics. I get it when Midge helps me but I have no idea what Asymmetric shock is and what it has to do with the rate of interest of the euro or whatever.â He didnât mean to try to distract Archie from his own work. He just needed to get out of his own head for a moment. âSorry... This would be a lot easier if the letters would stop moving around on me.â He muttered, opening the book to the page with the folded corner to read again.
regqiemantle:
MOOSE.
âwe were both drunk isnât a valid excuse!!â he laughed, shaking his head. it amused him that midge even stuck by moose after that â though it was almost like she was just sticking with him because it was familiarity. reggie would know after all. âhey, i would have enjoyed that kiss. forget about andrews and veronica. we can be the next power couple.â he smiled, raising the spoonful of ice cream up to his tongue. âi canât even believe sheâs with him honestly.â he shrugged. he couldnât help himself; some days he liked archie, other days, he hated him. leaning up on his elbow, he raised an eyebrow. âalready planned? wow.â he didnât want people thinking he was using her in any way because that was the last thing he was doing. âweâll see how things go. youâll be the first to know, bro.â
Moose stuttered as he tried to find the right words to say. âMe being drunk is totally a valid excuse. I finished like half of that keg by myself. My tolerance is super high, so if Iâm drunk, Iâm gone.â He broke into a chuckle as he finished trying to defend himself. His argument was probably weak, but he stood by it. âExactly, Veronica and Andrews wouldnât be anywhere near us as a power couple.â Moose stared as Reggie through narrowed eyes. âYouâre not hung up on Veronica too are you? Because I told you, if she wanted to hop on the Reggie train, she would have been all up on you after that time you guys went clubbing.â
xperfectgirl:
The light laugh she gave was genuine. âActually, I wouldnât mind a little distracting.â
âGreat, then you wonât mind following me so we can get started.â Moose had an idea on how to get Betty in a better mood, all he had to do was lure her to the gym.
Moose: I'm not gonna conversate with you.
Kevin: I think itâs converse.
Moose: Huh?
Kevin: Just say talk. "I'm not gonna talk to you".
thekevinxkeller:
âPlease explain to me why I like you and keep you around?â Kevin joked, though the last bit of his statement did bring him some curiosity. He rasied his eyebrow on Mooseâs offer to pay for their next meal, not expecting that kind of hospitality and the mention of their being a next time. Enjoyment did rise over Kevin that they didnât need to hide when hanging out with one another. Though it would take everything in his power to not jump Mooseâs bones but it was the smart and right thing to do and heâd be able to manage. âMoose, I donât think youâre taking advantage of me. If anything you could make the argument that Iâm taking advantage of you.â He was going after the guy who had a girlfriend and trying to get Moose on his side - at least thatâs how he could see it. The fist bump motion through him off. âReally?â Kevin asked, not being able to hold back his smile. âBros?â He repeated while he returned the gesture. âMoose, can you please stop being so adorable?â Without alerting Moose, Kevin winked before standing up and walking toward the door and back to the truck he drove the both of them in. âSo, where to next? Home or do you want to continue this da-..hang out.â The word nearly slipped from Kevinâs mouth, not meaning to make this moment awkward. âS-sorry..I can take you home if I just ruined this.â
Moose wondered why Kevin did like him. Itâs not like the two of them had a lot in common. Then again, the saying was that opposites attract and they were different in many aspects. âProbably because Iâm hot and you find me hilarious and adorable.â Moose answered, finishing the contents of his drink. âSo... weâre both taking advantage of one another. Weâre two concepting adults, thereâs nothing wrong with that.â He could tell the whole bro-talk was something Kevin had little experience with but he pulled it off okay enough. He hesitated at Kevinâs almost slip of the word date. Itâs not like he didnât know that on some level, going on a date is something the two were doing but dissociating the two made this a lot more easier to go through with this. âNo you, didnât ruin this.â Moose did his best not to show how uncomfortable he felt at the word, but probably failed at keeping his face neutral.  âI just remembered that I promised to go bowling with Reggie and a few guys from the team, but this was fun.â Moose slid out of the booth and walked alongside Kevin back to his truck. âWe should just pick this up tomorrow. Yâknow, at your place.â He felt bad cutting the night short, but didnât want to ruin anything that might happen based on his anxieties.
Moose looked at the textbook before him, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Nothing that he tried to read was making sense and he had barely moved past the first page in the last half hour. He shut the book and slid it across the table to the individual before him. âI donât get any of this. Maybe I should just give up and drop out right now.â
glaciemregiina:
âI suppose if you want to waste the breath. You donât strike me as a multi-tasker.â Veronica didnât stop, the cadence of her practice sneakers far quieter on the tile than heels would be. âThen it looks like youâre in. Stretch up because Iâm going to make you lift us now that you mentioned it.â
Moose grin grew from ear to ear upon Veronica taking him up on his offer. âYouâre serious?â He wasnât serious about the offer before but considered the activity. It couldnât hurt to have some fun and blend in with the vixens. The guys would probably give him shit but be jealous of him on some level. âYeah, just let me grab some clothes from my gym bag and Iâll see you ladies in a bit.â
ithekevinxkeller:
âSad-vengers? As mad as I want to be at you for that corny joke I canât because it was hilarious.â He laughed, inserting a fry into his mouth to somewhat tame his laugh. âDonât apologize, your humor is adorable.â The joke was funny and Kevin wasnât going to lie to the male for the sake of his own feelings that were irrelevant. âI know things will be fine, itâs just frustrating. And thank you MooseâŚthat..â Kevin paused for a moment, realizing that Mooseâs words offered him a great deal of reassurance considering he knows just how rough and crazy members of the football team can be. âHonestly and oddly enough made me feel better.â Who ever thought that Moose Mason would bring comfort to Kevin Keller? The waitress started making her way over with the check, and Kevin began pulling out the needed cash. His father gave him a weekly allowance that was enough for Kevin to do what he needed on a weekly basis. âThen how about you come over tomorrow? My dad works the graveyard shift and no one is available because they are all busy with their lives. We can watch a movie without the Netflix and Chill. Feel free to say no..but I really do consider you a friend..regardless of ou-my feelings.â
He lowered his head with a small chuckle, glad that Kevin enjoyed his sad attempt at a joke. âWell, Iâve got more where those came from.â Moose finished what was left on his plate. âNo problem, man. Bringing peace to the world is kinda what I do. That and share my awesome athletic skills with the world.â He sat by silently while Kevin paid for their meal. âThe next oneâs on me by the way. I canât have you thinking Iâm taking advantage of you.â He listened quietly to Kevinâs offer to come over and hang out at his place, just the two of them. Not that he expected anything to happen aside from the usual getting to know each other, but the door was left a little more ajar if they were truly alone with one another. âYeah, I think I can squeeze you in. I mean, that shouldnât be a problem. Weâre bros.â Moose reached across the table and bumped Kevin on the shoulder with his fist, possibly overdoing the act to show anyone that had spotted them eating that they were just friends. âWe can hang out by ourselves without it being weird.â
regqiemantle:
MOOSE.
âyouâre not stupid.â he shook his head. âfine. consider it dropped.â clearly something was on mooseâs mind but reggie wasnât going to push him to say anything. he knew his best friend, he knew heâd open up when he needed to. âi wasnât in that playbook in a spiteful way, like chuck was.â well, at the beginning he was. but considering his name was next to ethelâs way more than it should have been, it only indicated that he did like hanging out with the girl. after a while, she was the only one he had been interested in. âwell, that was a dick move on your part..â he mumbled, deciding to point the conversation back on his girl rather than midge. ââbut josieâs the best. a few more dates and then iâll ask her out.. i think.â
âI donât think any of us were in the playbook like Chuck was.â Moose remembered how lucky the two were for not being a part of the players kicked off the team for being a part of the playbook. Had Chuck taken the two of them with him, they could have said goodbye to any chance they had at getting scouted and the entire season wouldâve suffered because of it. âIn my defense, we were both drunk. I probably would have kissed you too if you were there.â Moose was impressed on how smitten Reg was when it came to Josie. Very rarely did they talk about a girl this seriously for him. âAll I know is that Iâd better be the best man when you guys get married. Iâve already got your bachelor party all planned out.â
xperfectgirl:
âIâve been hearing that a lot lately. Iâm fine, Moose. In fact, I feel oddly free.âÂ
âWell, Ms. Oddly free, let me know if thereâs anything I can do to help. I know Iâm not part of your wonder pets crew, but Iâm around if you need a distraction.â
Moose: No, look. I just want your professional take on how many things in my dream symbolize dicks.
Dilton: We've already established that all of your dreams are packed with enough homoerotic symbolism to lift Freudian theory from the ashes of discreditation.
Moose: Yeah, that's a given but I didn't even dream about Kevin this time.
Dilton: Are you serious? I'm clearing my schedule. This is a major breakthrough.
Moose: I know. it was so much more relaxing and enjoyable...it was about me dying repeatedly.
can we talk about this for a sec
thekevinxkeller:
Though it was within Kevinâs nature to attempt to make someone jealous, this wasnât at all the case. He shook his head before moving onto his fries. âThereâs no one to make jealous. Most guys donât want to be seen with me in public if they are..hardcore in the closet and just want to sleep with me.â Kevin was being truthful, and it was a tactic he never resorted to because the situation never called for it. âEventually you just get used to it so you donât bother fighting it.â Joaquin was case that Kevin knew he wouldnât encounter for a while, especially with him being open. âYouâll figure everything out. If you ever need any help and donât want to go through having so many tutors I can help. Iâm sitting at a 3.8 right now.â He didnât mind helping someone he cared about, especially someone who he had feelings for. âEmo scooby do? Come on, Moose. If youâre going to give us a name like that it has to be more savage than that.â There was Kevinâs habit of getting off track and he knew he was missing the point. âRight now weâve all been busy dealing with our own lives so Iâm mostly trying to make sure we donât drift apart.â Heâd just come into the group and already had baggage to deal with. âHow do you have time for anything? Those all sound like big deals.â Kevin shook his head, moving to put out the money to pay for the both of them. âDonât extend that offer Moose because you know Iâll take it.â
Moose could relate to the other guys Kevin was describing. He felt bad because Kevin was a great guy and didnât deserve all this secrecy that seemed to surround him on a daily basis. At least he didnât have to deal with being a secret with his last boyfriend. He didnât know why the two broke up or what the serpentâs deal was, but he didnât make Kevin keep their relationship a secret. âIâm sure I will. Especially if Iâve got everyone in my corner.â Moose appreciated the offer but wasnât sure if he wanted to take advantage of Keller even though he was offering his services. Even though, adding Keller to his list of tutors would give him a better cover and excuse for them hanging out. âWhat about gloomy power rangers or teenage moody ninja turtles? Ooh, Iâve got it. The Sad-vengers.â Moose laughed a little before reeling it back, remembering that these guys were all a part of Kevinâs close friend group. âSorry... but Iâm sure you guys will figure it out. You guys are like the football team in that no matter what happens, youâve got each otherâs backs.â He wasnât sure exactly how close the five of them were both he really did hope Kevin had close friends like he did. He often wondered sometimes how he had free time for all the things he did but somehow it all worked out in the end. âTake it. I want you to.â
